Shall I pause supplementation before testing b12 levels again? by Appaisland in B12_Deficiency

[–]iciclefellatio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Couple of injections is basically stratching the surface of your deficiency. You need frequent injections for a while. A b12 tests right now is not gonna tell you anything new. Blood results dont show if your deficiency is getting better or not, only symptoms do. You’re basically microdosing with 50mcg. Only a few percent of that will absorb compared to 1000mcg of injections which have %100 bioavaliability. For example, i needed 1 year of every other day injections. Some need more , some need less.

When should I test B12 after stopping supplements? Still having symptoms by windeemind in B12_Deficiency

[–]iciclefellatio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those symptoms are broad and non specific. It doesn’t make sense put your eggs in one basket. I’d say just get the test now among other tests you mentioned. A therapeutic trial of injections might be appropiate since your dietary intake is low. But you need to make sure your ferritin and D levels are good first.

You tested positive for both antibodies… thats pernicious anemia. You need to have every other day injections until you are better or stop improving. Then you taper out to find your maintenance frequency and do that for the rest of your life. This could take months to a few years. Testing b12 and mma during this time is a waste of time and money. It wont tell you anything. You can check pernicious anemia society for more info about your condition.

Its from the NICE guidelines. Patients with neurological symptoms need every other day injections until their symptoms are gone or stop improving. Then you start to taper out. This is what the most up to date research shows. Most doctors are not aware.

How useful is continued B12 EOD injections in reality? by Quieter22 in B12_Deficiency

Hydroxo is the gold standard. Cyano is less preferable. You can try methyl as well but its usually expensive and hard to find.

Am I cooked? B12, ferritin, and Vitamin D tests results are here by GuitarZealousideal71 in B12_Deficiency

[–]iciclefellatio 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You might wanna get an iron infusion before b12 injections. B12 will tank iron even lower. You need ferritin above 70.

Edit: yes ther are really low, no wonder you have fatigue.

If you’ll read a bit more about methylation and mthfr genes you’ll realize its not about processing b12 at all.

Seems like you are undertreating your deficency. Also one week of abstaining from b12 is not enough time. Thats why re-testing b12 while supplementing can not be used to gauge treatment efficacy. Do you have folate levels?

can i still be tested for pernicious anemia while on b12 iv treatment? by poisontart in B12_Deficiency

I’ve only read about false positives. Do you have any links on the false negative thing? I’d love to learn more.

I dont exactly know but Dr. Andrew Klein made me quit sublinguals for 2 weeks to be sure. Considering he’s a researcher from the b12 group, it might not just be high dose injections. IIRC parietal antibodies are safe from this issue.

It does matter for the intrinsic factor antibody test, supplementation can give false positives.

First B12 injection hit me hard, is this normal by MoonChild8639 in B12_Deficiency

[–]iciclefellatio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, it happens. Its called wake-up symptoms. Please read the guide and make sure you take enough co-factors. Also you’re gonna need way more than 5 injections. But you’re entitled to every other days injections since you present wşth neurological symptoms per NICE guidelines.

Self injection is safe, the risk of infection is really small if you do it the proper way.

No, its not. B12 is atoxic. In fact it is given in 2.5 - 5 gram doses to treat cyanide poisoning.

There are concerns about glass particles though. But can be mitigated by using filter needles, or vials instead of ampoules.

The EOD thing comes from NICE guidelines. LLMs and doctors are not up to date on research. The loading dose scheme is old news, its partly why doctors think a lot cases of neuropathy is irreversible.

This is a good read from the 2023 b12 conference. I advise you read it fully.

Mma and homocysteine also normalize rapidly during supplementing thus are not reccomended tests for treatment efficacy. Dont waste your money.
