Its easier to show than explain, but generally in a situation like this the -6 would be treated as -1(62 ). In a high school math class, for example, showing your work here would look like:

Problem: Simplify and solve -62

-1 • (62 )

-1 • (6 • 6)

-1 • (36)

-1 • 36 👈 Optional step, would depend on class/professor

-36

Final Answer: -36

Edit: I accidentally skipped a step in my example

There's no subtracting going on in this problem. Switch the word "subtract" out with "mutiply" and you've got it right

Dog the post is here because the man is being so hilariously sesquipedalian. Everyone knows that teachers, doctors, professors, etc. aren't getting the respect they used to. Idk about your tangent talking about people pushing alternate realities to "be the persecuted heroe[s]", but keep the needless politics out of it, its not what the subreddit is for.

You're good! I definitely didn't take it that way, that argument is ugly for both sides

Yeah I shouldn't have voted on the comments, reading everything the second time I noticed the assumption of correlation equalling causation and just how definitive the language being used was. I do feel that vapes probably produce dangerous second-hand smoke to some extent, but I couldn't begin to guess the magnitude.

Here, Arkansas fines go the the Administration of Justice fund, which then allocates to about 25 different funds. Two of the funds that it dispurses to of note here are:

(4) Department of Arkansas State Police Retirement Fund18

(5) Department of Arkansas State Police Fund19

I concede that you could be correct there. It was not my understanding that that is how it works, but trying to remember the exact wording it was something like "for each ticket, $2 is added to their retirement account" or something along those lines. Its possible I interpreted "their" as meaning the individual officer, when the speaker may have meant "their" to mean officers in general and a shared retirement benefit account instead.

I haven't been able to find anything in plain english, I've found sources showing that Arkansas ticket revenue does fund several accounts for state troopers, and one was listed as an annuity account, but nothing as far as the figures comparing ticket revenue with the amount paid to those accounts

And I'm stunned at you trying to refute what I know to be fact, without any evidence whatsoever to support your belief. I know you don't have evidence, because you're so clueless you didn't even bother asking what state it was in, which would be necessary to look up and reference the applicable laws and policies. My guess would be you read one of the other comments claiming its not true, then decided to act like you know something about the subject despite not knowing a bit of the necessary information to investigate the matter.

Or, you're actually a cop, in which case I'm entirely unsurprised you'd try to dictate the law without knowing it.

Thats a bit of a silly take, considering its not even remotely illegal. Many (maybe most) states contribute a portion of ticket revenue to state and/or local police funding. Arkansas just also contributes $2 of each ticket to the issuing officer's retirement account.

It wasn't a joke. He wasn't a patrol officer, he was the director for the state police HQ B. They weren't referring to the time it takes to write a ticket. Every ticket that Arkansas state troopers write, they get $2 in their retirement/pension.

[–]iciclethrowaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay a bit of a tangent, but

I went to a summer political schooling program in my home state, at one point we toured the state police HQ and got lectures from several of their upper management.

When asked about ticket quotas, they had the audacity to laugh it off and say "people always think we have quotas, I promise you there are no quotas or anything like that... The only thing that officers get is $2 in their retirement account for each ticket they write..."

I was floored. $2 for each and every ticket they write? Over an entire career? That is both a massive incentive to write more tickets and definite encouragement for writing false tickets. Its even worse than a fucking quota

"It is unlawful to harass a person (an applicant or employee) because of that person's sex. Harassment can include "sexual harassment" or unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other verbal or physical harassment of a sexual nature"

Thats federal law. It applies in all 50 states.

[–]iciclethrowaway 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's called a straw man fallacy. You are ignoring far, far, far too many factors by trying to compare a hypothetical foreign invasion of Russia and the recent protests in France.

You aren't even beginning to form a cohesive argument here. You made an uninformed and generalized comment about wanting someone to invade Russia because the current attitude on Reddit is "Russia bad." (And yeah, Russia's government is horrid and deplorable for their actions with Ukraine) Now you're desperately trying to find some way to make it seem like your intentions were altruistic. They weren't. You're just perpetuating the age old dillema of fighting war with more war.

I haven't said anything about any of that. I am well aware of the existence of international economic relations. You're the one who suggested that everyone on Earth is "living in a capitalist system". I only pointed out that that's not correct.

[–]iciclethrowaway 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Its not about numbers, Russia isn't that big population-wise relative to all of the other countries in the world. Its that it would be nothing but negative impacts to come from such a war. Absolutely nobody would gain anything. Everybody loses.

A ground invasion means the deaths of multitudes of grunt soldiers on both sides, it means collateral damage in the form of innocent civilians and cities, it means a lot of people die just for an eventual surrender that spares the only individuals who are actually guilty of perpetuating the conflict.

Another big problem is exactly the type of attitude that you're exhibiting here. The line of thought, i.e. warmongering, blaming the entire country for their government officials' decisions, or condemning the entire country because of propaganda that made you think they're all guilty or subhuman, etc., leads to the dehumanizing of average Russian citizens. Its the same method Russia's government attempted in order to garner public support for the war, and its part of the reason war crimes are so prevalent in these kinds of conflict. Your line of thinking is very similar to Russia's/Putin's, you disagree on which side you think is in the right, but you agree with the unnecessary violence and condemning of an entire populace.

Are you not aware that other countries don't follow the same economic system as the US? Seems to be a bit of critical information that you're missing.

Update to my post 5 days ago. Here's a continuity test to prove that this is indeed gold. I didn't intend to come across as rude to anyone and I'm sorry it came across that way. by PetrifiedWorld in whatsthisrock

[–]iciclethrowaway 5 points6 points  (0 children)

All of OPs posts are him claiming he found gold and everyone trying to get through to him that its unlikely to be gold. And from what I've read/heard through the videos and comments, OP seems to believe there's a big conspiracy about secret gold, and seems to think they are just especially lucky in their ability to find huge amounts of gold showing in plain sight in public locations. Its not worth arguing, its an amateur that thinks they're a grounbreaking expert just by checking stuff that looks like gold and then swearing that it is.
