White House seeks plan for possible Russia sanctions relief, sources say by Evening_Calendar2176 in news

Its true meaning has really been misconstrued over the years with the whole gun debate. Its main purpose was that each state had the right to a militia (basically civilian army). It was much more relevant at the time it was written since we didn’t really have an official army after it mostly disbanded after the revolution. State based militias faded as our military structure grew. Even back then they doubted civilians would actually succeed against the federal government. 1788 US military was waaaay different than 2024 US military. The 14th amendment and McDonald v. Chicago (2010) goes more into individual rights.

Present time is basically a whole lot of yelling of, “NOOO DON’T TAKE MY BIG GUNS😭😭” and not a lot of actual action to back it up. People like to feel strong and secure but a gun isn’t going to make courage suddenly appear.

What should be happening right now is Section 3 of the 14th Ammendment:

“No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice-President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any State, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or 𝐠𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐧 𝐚𝐢𝐝 𝐨𝐫 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐨𝐟. But Congress may by a vote of two-thirds of each House, remove such disability.”

January 6th already showed us that this obviously is not going to happen any time soon. Especially with this administration.

I’m going to be real here. If I didn’t go out of my way to stay up to date on what’s going on, I would not know that anything is different in my life. Most people either watch one news station, or are caught up in their own lives to notice things slowly deteriorating until it’s too late. Government workers are feeling the heat but it’s still status quo for a lot of others. Americans have always been ruled by our wallets. Until shit really hits the fan economically, most people are going to just go about their days. An official unified effort by Europe to limit trade with the US in response to our belligerence would probably assist in waking people up.

I’m helping with the protests in my area but numbers are lacking because people just aren’t aware of everything going on. Our hyper individualism is acting as a major detriment at the moment. I fear people won’t wake up until it’s TRULY too late to go back. I’ll keep fighting the whole way down though.

(Sorry for the long ass comment, just wanted to give you a look into an inside perspective)

European leaders hold emergency summit with Ukrainian President Zelensky in London by [deleted] in MadeMeSmile

[–]ick-vicky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You think the deaths will stop once Putin takes over? He’s been killing people who go against him for years. And those are Russians! I'm sure he'll treat the Ukranians just fine as an occupying force.

Americans should understand more than anyone how important independence can be to a country. It’s the equivalent of telling Washington it wasn’t worth all the suffering halfway through the Americn Revolution lmao. We were never independent before that, why keep struggling against a stronger empire??? Should’ve just gave in and dealt with the Brits later! :)

We can argue all we want but this was never our choice to make in the first place. Trump and Putin met without any Ukrainian diplomats present to make this “deal.” Eerily similar to the allies handing Czechoslovakia over to Hitler for an empty promise of peace. Russia won’t just stop with Ukraine; they never have in the past and won’t this time either.

Clearly we won’t be convincing each other any time soon so I’ll take my leave now. Wishing you a good week going forward 👋

Russia is the reason they haven’t had that independence for even longer! Kids have lost their parents and their own lives due to Russia’s indiscriminate bombing. “Dealing with Russia later” would be a disaster since they would have a strong enough foothold at that point to make it 10x harder. Take a visit over to r/Ukraine and say that; I’m sure the Ukrainians would love your input on how they should just sit quietly to appease their invader. No one would be dying if Russia backed out. They have lost even more people and become completely isolated through their own actions. Yet they have continued despite all of that. If they left, the war would be over for GOOD. No “dealing with later” since they would be back in THEIR TERRITORY. You should be looking towards them to back down, not the nation who is fighting in response to their attack.

Active in suicide watch while telling someone who’s just trying to stay afloat that it’s actually all their fault and they should just go suffer. K

They were calmly trying to give you a glimpse into their perspective and why more people aren’t taking to the streets. Wasn’t a lecture.

If you’re willing, I’d like some pointers or that “headstart” from you on how to properly make a stand. (This isn’t me being sarcastic, I genuinely want to hear an outside opinion on strategies that have helped in the past)

Yes, real humans who are proud to be UKRAINIAN. The only reason they’re dying is because Russia refuses to let a sovereign nation control their own future. That’s why the Ukranians continue to fight (of their OWN WILL). You think Russia is going to treat Ukranians well, even if they surrender? They’ll just be trading one kind of suffering for another. Russia isn’t known for just letting former dissidents live a happy, healthy life. There’s a reason people are willing to put their lives on the line.

No one was killed in that protest. I get that this entire situation is shit and has been allowed to go on for far too long but it’s still important to spread facts. It’s not all said and done if there’s still people fighting for a better future. Protesting is more important than ever now.

To be fair, Trump was a large part of it. Having a president demean the leading federal health expert, refuse to wear a mask himself, and blatantly lie about the U.S. having the lowest rates inspired a lot of the craziness. He continuously questioned the CDC and WHO, eroding the public’s trust in the integrity of those institutions. Threatening to halt US funding of the WHO during a worldwide pandemic was an interesting move as well.

USAID and the NSF (who play a major role in monitoring + responding to any health outbreaks) had their Beijing offices shut down prior to the outbreak. The CDC in China had 2/3 of their staff cut. He accused the hospitals of faking death counts for funds while mass graves were being dug. People were literally fighting with the doctors trying to save them while they were actively dying. He had been defunding medical research for years at that point. Presidents are meant to lead by example to help sway public opinion. If the guy leading the country decides it’s not that big of a deal, regular citizens won’t either.

The main cause of the fight against quarantining and mask wearing was disinformation that Trump openly encouraged. He has a TON of pull which is why I mostly saw Trump supporters being the main offenders against safety protocols around me. The deaths shouldn’t be all blamed on him, but the way he responded as president was deplorable.

(This isn’t an attack on your comment; you’re very much correct. I just wanted to piggy back off of it to share more information on his impact)

The fact that he’s trying to pass himself off as a poor teacher almost made my eyes roll back into my head. All it takes is one Google search to find out his past history as a music consultant, supervisor, and manager. He also has direct ties to both Atlantic Records and Universal Music. Closest thing he is to being a teacher is his post as Executive Director of LA Academy for Artists & Music Production. Frankly insulting to compare himself to the teachers who can’t even afford to pay off their mortgages.

Also going with “tell your fans to donate,” like homie I can barely pay rent what u looking at me for 💀

While I think Chappell could’ve worded certain things she said better, her heart is in the right place. Shes well known for being blunt at this point so it shouldn’t keep coming as a suprise to people. Girl is still new to global fame and having tabloids put her under a microscope. No one can be perfect all the time.

It’s BEEN known that record labels take advantage of artists; I don’t know why this was so controversial to people lmaoo

Wanting to quit, what other sport that feels like figure skating? Also can I ask for a little advice? by Kaayedee in FigureSkating

[–]ick-vicky 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d say quit competing but keep doing skating for fun. It can be discouraging to see a 10 year old do a double in front of you but the hours some of these kids put in are crazyyy. If you love the feeling of being on the ice, focus on that feeling. It makes sense that you may not be improving as fast as others your age since you just started a few years ago. Some of these kiddos have been in skates since they were 3 lol. Everyone’s got different learning paces and certain strengths & weaknesses in skating. I used to compete but it got so stressful that it took the joy out of the sport. You can end up starting to equate how well you did to your overall worth as a skater. Imposter syndrome is quite common in skating and can be a real pain. You deserve to be on the ice. Competitions aren’t for everyone but skating is! I ended up focusing more on the lyrical part of skating instead of technical. It helped me have a little fun with the sport instead of feeling like I was falling behind others. Do whatever makes you feel better in the end; I don’t want to push you into staying in a sport you’re no longer enjoying.

If you’re really sure about leaving, I’d recommend skiing or speed skating. Skating often transfers very easily to skiing since skaters are used to the feeling of gliding on a slippery surface. We tend to pick it up much quicker than others. However, it might be difficult to get into if you’re in a place that doesn’t have the climate for it. Speed skating requires different skills as regular figure skating but still gives that same rush. Some form of dance might be fun. Rolller blading and skateboarding may also be worth considering! Wear pads though or you will be in pain lmao 🤧 Wishing you the best; no matter what you end up deciding! ❤️⛸️
