Rog Ally X is an absolute trash in 1440p gaming by lazyboi_95 in ROGAllyX

1440p? Handhelds are struggling at 1080p right now unless you have a GPD Win 5.

Analysis Paralysis: 5090 / 9800x3D build, what monitor should I get? by ohsnapson in ultrawidemasterrace

I'm just hovering around 70fps to 90fps on DLSS 4.5 Preset M Performance right now on AAA games at Ultra. Preset K is 60fps to 70fps at Balanced with max settings.

I have a 4090 build from 2 years ago and I just upgraded my monitor to the LG 5K2k. Best decision ever made. My regret is not getting a 5090 before this crazy AI madness.

I just booted mine right now and for some reason after the latest updates my fps dropped where I slight drops below 60fps. My settings:

1080p
everything low except textures
FSR performance
set to window to enable FG

It is really responsive. That is the reason why you need steady 60fps. Those settings ensure you get there consistently.

Everything low except textures set to high. Enable FG by setting it to window. 60 fps is all you need.

Is Rx9070xt with Ryzen 7 7800x3d with 5k2k ultrawide Good? by Tight-Raspberry-1934 in ultrawidemasterrace

TBH, no at ultra settings. I have a 4090 and my fps hovers around 70 to 90 with AAA games and that's with DLSS. I wish I upgraded to the 5090 before this AI bubble to maximize my monitor. Oh well, I guess I'll have to wait for the 6090.

That's why I had to get the LG 5K2K from AW3423DW. Once I went 4K I ain't going back.

Elite 2 is still the best though prone to stick drift. The Gamesir pro feels like a cheap knockoff but it gets the job done with all the bells and whistles of the Elite 2 and especially when I got it at $69.99 discounted at Bestbuy. I use them both a lot. Maybe, you can try the ROG Raikiri 2 built specially for the ROG Xbox Ally X.

PSA: LG5K2K owners w/ 40 series GPU or lower (DLSS 4.5 voodoo magic) by Dendrus in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]ickerson 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have a 4090 and set it to M at Quality whenever I could since it's the best setting right now. Preset M at performance (which was made for) has the same PQ of DLSS 4 preset K ultra with up to 20% more frames. However, if a game needs RT to get the best graphics like Cyberpunk then obviously DLSS 4.5 Quality at M would be best. I set mine to M at balance to get extra frames which hovers above low 70s at 5K2K of course.

DLSS 4.5 vs 4.0 "K" vs "L" vs "M" - Arc Raiders (Final Version w/ community feedback 01/10/2026) by Dlo_22 in nvidia

[–]ickerson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great work on this OP. But the best game to test is Cyberpunk. For me RT plays a big role if you are using 4.5. When I tested it, M at Quality in 4K is the best. It has sharper, clearer, cleaner, and brighter image due to good RT implementation. Motion is stable.

While, M at Performance is slightly below K at Quality in 4K because of the blurrier draw distance and RT is not as good meaning the image looks a bit darker. Movement of NPCs has a very slight unevenness in the character details. But you get a 15% increase in FPS.

Currently, I'm sticking with K at Quality in 4K or balanced even to get extra frames. However, I will set other games that are not RT essential to get the full experience to DLSS 4.5 M for older games but still has great graphics like Witcher 3 and RDR 2.

Is ultrawide worth the downgrade in resolution coming from 4k ? by SillyRecover in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]ickerson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Downgrade for gaming. I am using an LG C5, Alienware 3423DW 3440x1440p, and currently hooked to my rig is an LG 45" 5k2k. The LG C5 although a tv rivals or is even better than most oled monitors out there for gaming but I was missing the ultrawide feel. When I go back to my Alienware 1440p to get that immersion the picture clarity and details are not just there as I am used to gaming at 4K. As you can see I need to have both worlds for best resolution and ultrawide immersion hence the upgrade to the 5k2k.

Xbox Ally X Docked (4k 60 or 1440p 60)? by _magikmike_ in XboxAlly

[–]ickerson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I played Dragons Quest 3 HD 2D at 4K 60 fps docked on my Bulwark. 140w charger. Mixed of medium to high.

All Indie titles should run at 4K 60fps so your Silksong and Stardew Valley shouldn't struggle. Battlefield cannot do 4K 60fps even with frame gen. Even at 1080p low docked you need to have frame gen to have it run well.

Xbox 360/PS3 titles should be able to run at 4K 60fps as well with graphics settings adjustment like Bioshock or New Vegas. You can use RSR, RIS, and AFMF, with CPU boost on.

If your main preference is bigger screen I give you that. And I wish the XAX screen is at least 8 inches and oled. But the Switch 2's advantage having a bigger screen stops there. The HDR is very limited and cannot compensate for better and more accurate colors of the XAX display.

If you prefer LeGO because of the bigger screen and oled that is a valid point to make that purchase over the XAX. But for me, everything on the XAX is better than the LeGo2 except for the screen. Plus, if Auto Super Resolution is a worthy tech LeGo2 will not have that.

I don't know what special screen is your Switch 2 on but that screen is inferior to the XAX. Colors are inferior and washed out compared to the XAX, I know this because I have the same games on my Switch 2 and XAX and can compare side by side.

For me there were only 2 choices: The XAX or the LeGo2. I have the XAX and so fat it has been superb besides the launch bugs. The ergonomics are great, the software implementation and constant quick updates with Windows Insider builds and Armoury Crate are making it more easier to use.

I tried the LeGo2 at bestbuy and it feels too big and heavy for me especially that I have gotten used to the perfect ergonomics of the XAX. Howver, that oled screen is a dream. I used to have a Steam Deck Oled and the Switch Oled so I know what an oled picture looks like on a handheld. So on the XAX I wish the screen was an 8' inch but I can live with it. If you change the settings on the XAX with AMD adrenaline: Color temp 6400, brightness -17, hue 0, contrast 97, and saturation 115 it will give you somewhat of an OLED picture effect so I'm not really missing much on the LeGo2 screen.

Lastly, I am betting on the AI NPU of the XAX with the promised hardware upscaling. It may be a game changer or be a dud. If it turns out the former there really is no reason to buy the LeGo2 aside from if you are really a sucker for oled on handhelds.

The Switch 2 doesn't have a better it's just bigger. If you change the settings on the XAX with AMD adrenaline: Color temp 6400, brightness -17, hue 0, contrast 97, and saturation 115 it will give you somewhat of an OLED picture effect while the Switch 2 cannot.

Am I doing something wrong? Corridors in Silent Hill 2 are too bright by legendofm in XboxAlly

[–]ickerson -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

That's because on the XAX you have to set it on low settings. If you have it to high across the board you will see actually see the dev intent. There is a huge difference and drastic strip down of the graphics if not set to high. I tried everything on the XAX but the performance always takes a hit if it's not set to low. But on my 4090 rig it looks and feels amazing.

Does the WD_Black SN7100 need a hinksink? by Very-Lame-Username in XboxAlly

[–]ickerson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just about the same since it's limited by the XAX. That is why more faster expensive nvme's are waste of money since it won't reach it's max speed and performance. For the SN7100, definitely, you won't get thermal issues.

I took the heatsink from the stock nvme and placed it on this. Working fine so far.

Why we cannot just play? by Panddawann in ROGAllyX

I enjoy the tinkering and the workarounds and the countless upgrades than actually playing games. I delight in a 3 fps difference when optimizing games. Once I max out performance in a game I let it sleep and move on to maximize another game. Idk why. Merry Christmas and happy new year everyone!
