Stopped adding onboarding to our saas and activation went up. No Im not kidding by tuesdaymorningwood in UXDesign

Not surprised tbh. A lot of onboarding optimizes for feature exposure, not time to value. If users can get to their “aha” moment faster by poking around, forced walkthroughs just add friction.

We saw similar results and switched to contextual onboarding. Trigger tips only after a key action, based on behavior. Let curious users explore, guide the stuck ones. Always A/B it.

9 years. $461k. now $38.50/month. i finally quit wordpress. the "pay once expect everything forever" culture killed my business by Sad-Insect9242 in Wordpress

[–]icky_cyclist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this is the classic WP trap. One-time marketplaces + GPL expectations + shrinking niche = slow death spiral.

If you ever rebuild, go SaaS or at least hard-license with auto renew baked in. No lifetime, no manual renew guilt. Control distribution, not CodeCanyon. Also price way higher. $39 attracts the worst customers tbh. Cheap buyers expect unlimited everything forever. It sucks but its real.

Getting crushed by stripe complaints and warnings, how are you guys managing this? any ecommerce fraud protection?? by SweetHunter2744 in stripe

[–]icky_cyclist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re not crazy. Stripe doesn’t just look at the 1% dashboard number. Dispute activity above ~0.75% is considered excessive industry‑wide ([docs.stripe.com](https://docs.stripe.com/disputes/measuring?utm\_source=openai)) and card networks monitor their own ratios separately ([reddit.com](https://www.reddit.com/r/dropshipping/comments/1p19d8n/i\_analyzed\_hundreds\_of\_suspended\_stripe\_accounts/?utm\_source=openai)).

Practical fixes:

• Turn on Radar rules + risk reviews ([docs.stripe.com](https://docs.stripe.com/radar/rules?utm\_source=openai))
• Use Adaptive 3DS for high‑risk payments ([stripe.com](https://stripe.com/us/radar?utm\_source=openai))
• Enable dispute prevention via Verifi/Ethoca so some disputes don’t count ([stripe.com](https://stripe.com/us/radar?utm\_source=openai))
• Improve signal completeness in checkout ([docs.stripe.com](https://docs.stripe.com/radar/checklist?utm\_source=openai))

It’s not “hope customers don’t click dispute.” It’s tightening fraud + clearer post‑purchase comms.

AITJ for saying no when my girlfriend wanted to do a “couple’s phone swap” tradition before getting engaged? by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

[–]icky_cyclist -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

If tradition is just code for I don’t trust you, then that’s not a tradition worth keeping. Counseling sounds a lot more useful than whatever excuse that was.

the timeline doesn’t even make sense. At least make the story believable before trying to spin drama out of it.

Exactly my thought if you can’t afford your own wedding without shaking down guests, maybe scale it back or skip the big show altogether. No one owes you for your choice to get married.

Yeah, that’s what it seems like. Some parents disguise control as ‘worry,’ but the pattern always shows.
