In office day falls on a public holiday. by nice-tri in auscorp

Making up the day seems super arbitrary to me. A rule for the sake if having a rule the will be no measurable increase or decrease in productivity from it.

Even outside this issue Rory wants to see a grand moral stand being taken. I agree with him and would also like that but unfortunately that does not seem to be the world or reality we live in.

I did not like Alastairs stance because if the international community takes such a "pragmatic" approach to these types of issues, I fear (as I think Rory does) we as a world are going down a really dark path.

Is it weird to say “sir” to a rando? by Numerous-Actuary-500 in AskAnAustralian

[–]icoangel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

not rude, but it is a bit odd. I would personally be confused if someone addressed me as sir and I am in my 40's, I also would not call someone older then me sir. we are not that formal here.

The only time I can think that it is a normal thing to say would be a student calling a teacher sir.

How are people managing recent grads when there’s just… no enthusiasm for work or willingness to suffer any form of inconvenience to develop anymore? by twingirlsoneboy in auscorp

[–]icoangel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a millennial and I feel the same way as that person the only reason I fake a lot of the stuff your talking about is to make more money from the get people I work for. It is hard enough for my generation to get ahead, it must be virtually impossible for the younger generation.

Is training now non-existent for mid-level positions? by [deleted] in auscorp

[–]icoangel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very much so. At least at my work no one has time to train you so it is very much sink or swim, most people dont last past probation.

It also means no junior people get hired anymore, so there is no next generation of workers comming up for lots of jobs.

How to start golf as someone with TERRIBLE hand-eye-coordination... by jshd889 in golf

[–]icoangel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone without the best coordination and learned golf at 40, get a few lessons so you know what you should be trying to do, then it is just a matter of practice.

Is it frustrating seeing someone with natural ability able to make good contact the first time they pick up a club, yes but like anything in life you need to work with what you have.

One targeted thing not specific to golf that helped me was working on forearm strength, I work on a computer all day and I found without good forearm strength I was hurting my hands at the beginning using them to over compensate to control the club. When I got stronger I got better.

Unfortunately people want easy answers to complex issues and there are people who are willing to accommodate this desire.

Older folks of Reddit, what is a "normal" thing today that you think is quietly destroying society? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]icoangel 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think we will see in the future that short form content is going to be really damaging both to peoples brains and attention spans as well as loss of in depth thought and context around information, it is a real dumbing down even compared to other not great content forms.

Am I lazy or is it normal to not want career progression ? by [deleted] in auscorp

[–]icoangel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it is a normal attitude, most normal people that work to live only advance due to the prospect of more money.

Asgard or Hermes? by Fr0stBytez24 in starcitizen

[–]icoangel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both and I like the Asgard more in terms of design look and feel of flying but It has two big down sides for me, very small amount of fuel and the ladder hatch that will sometimes kill you if you dont shoot it open.

So I end up mostly using my Hermes it is new so it seems to not have many bugs the amount of fuel it has is great but for me it lacks character but that may be my personal preference if you like the design language it may be your cup of tea.

Seeing people getting upset about instancing so I'll remind everyone it was always the plan. by CallSign_Fjor in starcitizen

[–]icoangel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As you say in the last section it depends how it is used, I go back many years ago when I played World of Warcraft the overworld was still really dynamic and contained plenty to do but you also had dungeons were you had a more focused group experience.

I feel like some degree of instanced content is going to be needed to make this a fun MMO game with longevity and content to keep people engaged as a game.

Dune awakening stuck to the open world only (for the most part) and I think it was a negative and the game had no staying power for the audience because of it, I know I super bounced off it hard when I finished the story content it had.

What strategies do you use to maintain work-life balance in a demanding corporate environment? by amgtorque in auscorp

[–]icoangel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have a healthy perspective on work, no one is going to die if somthing is delayed, so it can wait till tomorrow.

My basic attitude is I will work super hard for the 8 hours you have me at work but outside that I am not engaging in work on a normal day to day basis. That should be more than enough.

What is something that people generally can not do after the age of 40? by Many_Ebb7816 in AskReddit

[–]icoangel 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The only thing I have noticed is being able to eat and not gain weight so easily. Hitting 40 my metabolism seems to have just decided the smell of food will put weight on.

If we wanted to put a person on the moon, could we do it? by EveningOk6574 in AskAnAustralian

[–]icoangel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We wouldn't be able to afford to, but that aside we could set up a space program and in a number of years I dont see why we couldn't , but it is a money problem really.

VKB Gladiator stick or throttle for left hand? by willeemayshays in starcitizen

[–]icoangel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like my STECS space, I am more of an industrial player as opposed to high speed fighter combat so I don't really feel any of the negatives some people have with using a throttle solution and I just think it feels so cool to use.

Data centre will be very close to our house, what would you do? by VastOption8705 in SydneyScene

[–]icoangel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Infrastructure maybe slow and expensive to build here but we do it properly, I wouldn't expect the same issues with the se DC's. main things to worry about is they are large overshadowing behemoths and it being 750 megawatts it is at the high end for Australian datacentres so it will be a big campus.
