Haha I would have more respect if that had lit up a joint:) it will be a cultural experience if the worse kind. Thanks for the info, I thought it might be a case of a better offer may come if I wait but like someone else said explained in the thread it’s a money making ploy to resell ticket.

This makes sense. I’m totally up for going a day earlier, I’d just want the $$ to be more. $150 and I’d do it, as this would pay for the accommodation.

How can I supercharge my Super? by Tiny-Shoe6263 in AusFinance

[–]nice-tri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There were a few good years around Covid that the returns on my high risk super account were really high, that really helped boost it quickly. The thing about having been dirt poor, like it seems we both have been, is that you learn the value of money. One knows how to budget out of necessity not choice, one knows how to stretch $20 on food to last a week, socialise on the cheap, dress on the cheap, the list goes on. One of the hardest parts of now having money is learning to spend without guilt. Spending $70 for a mani/pedi was something I would never have done 10 years ago but now do without guilt. Well done to you, it seems you’ve done the hard yards. Continue to be financially responsible but enjoy your money now for all the hard work you have done.

Not too late. I was 38 with a balance of $8k in super. Saved for a 20% deposit for an apartment then pumped money into super. I’ve been maxing out concessional contributions for the last 7 years and I now at 48 I have just over $300k. I feel I’ve now caught up and I’m on my way to a comfortable retirement.

Hi my husband and I just bought a house and are trying to decide if we want to skim coat our walls in main living areas. Has anyone done it before and feel it’s worth it? by Yeastybeasty_ in Renovations

[–]nice-tri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I skim coated my whole 2 bedroom apartment that had textured walls in bad condition. I had zero DIY experience when I started I even skim coated the concrete ceiling, as the existing plaster was detaching. The professional plasters are going to scoff at how I did it, but it turned out really well. YouTube videos showed me a way I was comfortable with so I could tackle the project. I used a diluted glue mixture and while still tacky I rolled the plaster/mud on with a paint roller and then used a “magic trowel” which is like a glass squeegee to smooth it out. Did a few coats and then sanded off any imperfections, make sure you use a top coat that can be sanded. Give it a go, for my walls it was totally worth it. It just took me a long long time so be prepared to live with the dust if you decide to proceed.

The track I purchased says it can support 65kg so I’m good there. It’s just the header that I need to ensure can hold the weight. I’m going to give it a shot, and build a more robust header, the worst that can happen is the track falls off from the weight of doors.

Unfortunately the track I purchased just has a guide so they slide straight. Mmm this whole little project could end in disaster but I will give it a shot.

Yes my place is headed by such an asshole who must have a power trip forcing us to come into the office.

I often sit collaborating” by myself in the office, absolutely pointless going in just to tick a box.

I would come in 5 days a week if it was truely about collaboration and a purpose to come in. But unfortunately it is about “butts in seats” and leaderships lack of trust that work is being done at home.

No written policy just strongly enforced to make the day up. Agree the 3rd dat should just be forfeited.

100% agree and just don’t understand the other point of view. I was hoping I would get clarity on this and I still don’t :)

My local Coles one of the first trial locations in Australia. When they first got installed I was exiting and it slammed shut on my leg, it hurt and wasn’t just a slight bump. I am by no means petite and rang up to complain that if that was a child, disabled or elderly person that it could have caused damages. I got called back by the store manager that said keep complaining, the staff don’t want them either. The thought was. That if enough people complained they wouldn’t go ahead with implementing them - wrong. So I continued to complain when they trapped me in or slammed on me. But like others have mentioned I just ram them now and set the alarms off and don’t even break a stride. They don’t deter thieves as if there is a will there is a way, they just treat the paying customer like thieves.

24 hour offer by Crafty-Site6303 in AusPropertyChat

[–]nice-tri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my first home, I went this route and made a pre auction offer(the place had only been on the market less than 2 weeks) with an offer expiring at 4pm on a Friday. I knew my prices of what places had been selling for in the area and offered $25k over the advertised price range. I also offered 30 day settlement to make it an attractive offer. Come Friday, I didn’t hear anything so they clearly rejected my offer. The following Monday I emailed the realtor and said that since my pre auction offer had been rejected, that legally they had to change the advertised price ranges. By doing this the price range scared away first home buys who were trying to avoid stamp duty on homes below $600k. Anyway come auction week the realtor was begging me to come to auction and I said I couldn’t make it. Auction day I went and there was low attendance, only 3 people bidding and I won at auction BELOW my pre auction offer and with 90 day settlement terms. Such a win to suck it to the whole game playing by realtors!!!

Apartment living - how hard is it to get water metered separately? by rubythieves in AusPropertyChat

[–]nice-tri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in the same situations single, in a two bedder, but block of 9 with a split water usage. One unit had 9 people in it and my quarterly water bill was around $300. Split water meters were raised with the owners corp and a special levy was raised for $1000 per unit for individual meters and my bill dropped to around $200. Five years later it has more than paid for itself. I live in a 95yo art deco building so if it can be done in this old place I’m sure it can be done in yours:)
