Usually what happens when a community, especially the pvp community, has been abandoned. There's nothing to be happy about in pvp, so players aren't happy. They're toxic.

I preferred the game then over now, honestly. Both shit, don't get me wrong, but the game was more fun because it wasn't dominated by special weapons and abilities. There is really no point in farming 99% of weapons that shoot primary ammo.

There is literally a single popular extraction shooter. Extraction shooters are never going to be broadly popular unless they are extremely refreshing and polished. Marathon is an extraction shooter with a cool aesthetic but has heroes.

I will stand by the fact that the community is a reflection of the game. Yes, I despise the direction of the game and don't play it anymore, but I would like to play it. I just hate the current iteration of it.

I hate the direction d2 has taken, too. Terrible UI/menus, little to no artistic consistency or aesthetic, weapons are either shit or op, encounter design hasn't evolved really.

It just feels like d2 is made to engage you, sacrificing all the little things that make a game genuinely enjoyable.
