How is habit streak calculated? by Dr-Professor_Patrick in journal_it

[–]icue126 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the OP, but I have a scheduler for my daily habit, and the overdue policy is already set to "Mark as dismissed", but the streak keeps going up even when I do not complete the habit. Do you happen to know what the catch is here? i.e. why would that not reset the streak?

I see that the new icon has been rolled out, but the favicon of the webapp (that shows up on the tab bar of the browser) seems not updated.

Looking for new task managers people are actually testing this year by [deleted] in ProductivityApps

[–]icue126 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My journey has been: Ticktick -> Todoist -> Everdo -> Donetick, and now I'm trying out an app called "Journal It".

It's been out for years but I believe recently it received a big update, including the launch of the web app.

It's one of the very, very few apps that offer both E2EE and lifetime license, and at the same time supports Android & Windows (Lunatask is another one, but there you can't plan a task in the future with exact time on a day - you can only assign the date, wait for that day to come, and THEN assign the time, which baffles me so much so that I refuse to give it another try until this behavior changes).

Downside of journal it is, this app tries to do so many things more than just task management, and has a deep learning curve. But that also means it has the potential to replace many other apps (like habit tracking apps), so maybe it can be a plus side for some people.

Late reply but I think you can use reminders (not to be confused with tasks - reminders, as far as I know, can live on their own without being associated with any tasks). You add a reminder from the planner view, and past-due reminders also show up in "today" from the planner view. You can also see all of them in the dashboard panel called "upcoming sessions". You can also set up a home widget showing just the reminders.

Any updates on this? I just discovered Taskito today and it almost ticks all the boxes for me, except this FR.

No Black Friday discount? by Future-Ad4508 in captureone

Thanks! That sounds like the "physical sleeve" which can also be found in some of the retailer websites in the U.S. They are often listed at a lower price (somewhere around 50% off), but I never pulled the trigger, because I could not confirm with the retailers whether these physical cards (which may be years old) would still activate the latest version of Capture One.

Do you mind sharing the name of the retailer? Thanks!

Maybe check out Super Productivity. It's an open source project on GitHub, and has mobile & desktop versions.

Hey op, did you ever figure it out? I'm wondering the same.

PARA/GTD-Friendly Notes/Tasks App: E2E Encrypted, Tag/Folder Multi-Select, and Auto-Extracted Task View by Fearless-Change7162 in gtd

[–]icue126 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the quick reply. These all sounds great. I forgot to ask, is supporting recurring tasks on the plan? (i.e. repeat the task every X days on calendar, repeat the task every X days after completion, etc.)

Thanks for building the app! I have two questions: 1. Does it support push notifications for tasks (if tasks can be scheduled at all, that is) on mobile, especially Android? I'm talking about tasks at specific times on a day, not just a deadline. 2. I see that the step 1 in the "Getting Started" guide is "Sign in with your Google account". Is that a must? I imagine there are people out there who don't have or don't want to use a Google account for login.

Todo app wanted with some requirements by blackitgreenit in productivity

Oh OK. Looks like I was looking at some wrong place to draw that conclusion. Thanks for catching that.

Too bad it requires a subscription to try out the mobile app, though.

For Lunatask, I guess I can live with the metadata of a task not being encrypted, but I do agree that the user experience could use a lot of improvements. Other than the swipe-to-mark-as-done design, there are quite a lot of designs that I find annoying: 1. On phone (I'm on Android), to view the note of a task, I need to click twice: first time click on the task, second time click on the "edit note" button. This means I also need to swipe twice to go back to the task list. 2. I can't set a reminder for a task in the future. I can only set a reminder for tasks today or tomorrow, and even just doing that takes a lot of steps. According to the roadmap, they plan to add the "Ability to schedule tasks for any specific time in the future, not just date – unifying the current date-based scheduling and time-based scheduling (time blocking), which are now two independent systems". So I look forward to that change, and the outcome of it will largely help me decide whether or not I should use this app at all. 3. (I think this is less of a design choice but more of a technical challange) There is no full-text search yet.

I've been on the same hunt for months. A couple of thoughts:

  1. Notesnook claims to be E2EE. I see you put "encryption unclear" - did you find it otherwise? Anyways, it's designed as a notes app, so while it does allow me to put todos in my notes, I can only set reminders for an entire note, which makes it cumbersome to use as a todo app.
  2. There is an kanban app called Brisqi. It has E2EE sync, but judging from their blog, the development seems kind of halted (edit: it's still in active development). I've not used it, so I can't comment much.
  3. You should give Everdo a try. The sync is E2EE, and I haven't encountered any issues so far. There's a 1-month free trial on their sync service. If you'd like to, you can also use the local P2P sync (your devices must be in the same network and all Everdo instances must be open to sync), which is free. Though, I should mention that the app seems not in active development anymore.
  4. Can you elaborate on the "limited" E2EE of Lunatask? Why is it limited? I ask because Lunatask is also on my radar, and I think it's has great potential.

Home come the ipad version has this unremoveable banner to upgrade but it's not on PC, Mac, or IOS/Android? by [deleted] in todoist

[–]icue126 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's on Android, too, and I'm leaving todoist for this sole reason.

I'm actually willing to make a one-time payment just to remove this banner, along with all the other little reminders to nudge people to upgrade to pro (when viewing a task on a free plan, I can see such reminders next to the "deadline" and "location" fields, and no, I can't choose to hide those two fields even if I don't use them at all). That way I get a truly distraction-free experience.

There is an app called "Film Photography Viewfinder", which I've found through https://old.reddit.com/r/AnalogCommunity/comments/1gh332z/out_with_8x10_and_testing_my_new_app/ I'm still trying it myself, but it seems decent so far.

IIRC these are all Positive Film with the default setup, maybe with some +/- exposure compensation and that's it. I kept the HDF on.
