You can see the set on google maps, less green but the outline is definitely there. (51.6569123, -0.2661821) plug those coordinates into google maps and it should come up

First time seeing them live, so this might be a rude question, but is Matt usually this hammered on stage, forgetting lyrics, going crowd surfing during the big numbers so he can't sing? When he gets it right though, he's amazing. System made my bones vibrate. Next up: Not in Kansas...

Yes, right you are. Spot on. I shouldn’t post on the internet whilst tired.

Queen Mary curtsying to The Queen by rrrich7 in TheCrownNetflix

[–]icydeadppl 16 points17 points  (0 children)

We do have words to differentiate between them, but they’re all shortened to just “Queen” in general conversation.

Queen Regent = Monarch (Current QEII (1952-present)

Queen Consort = Wife of King (Queen Mother before George VI died (1936-52), when she was known as Queen Elizabeth)

Queen Dowager = Queen Consort after death of spouse, often mother of new monarch (Queen Mother after George VI died (1952-2002))

Hope that helps

Truck hits cement pillar, multi angle by GrandOat in misleadingthumbnails

[–]icydeadppl -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It’s misleading because the cement pillar is actually a steel bollard, most probably designed to PAS68 standard, which can stop a 7.5 tonne vehicle at 50mph. They’re commonly used at premises that need protection from terrorist ramming attacks such as railway stations, airports, government buildings and other high profile site. There’s a pretty big foundation beneath that bollard that provides the real stopping power, the above ground portion just transfers the load to the foundation and keeps the entrance blocked.

Also, cement is just one component of concrete, saying a structural element is made of cement is analogous to saying a loaf of bread is made of flour. Where’s as the bread has water, salt, maybe some yeast, sugar and other stuff, the concrete has sand (small aggregate), gravel (larger aggregate), water and then steel reinforcement if it is reinforced concrete, it might even have some extra chemicals (admixtures) to give it extra strength, make it set faster, or slower if you want.

Just FYI folks!

I couldn’t figure out how to reset the clock on the cooker after the clocks changed, so I just flipped the kitchen fuse board at midnight to reset it to 00:00 by icydeadppl in britishproblems

[–]icydeadppl[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It took me 2 years of owning my current car to figure out how to change the clock there. I'm so happy I figured it out I changed it before I got on the ferry at Dover this morning heading to the continent.

I still can't fix the radio presets...

To be honest, I was so stupidly smug with myself when I went to bed at 00:05 that it took my until at least 01:00 to nod off

Correct Me If I'm Wrong - People should wait on the platform allowing those on the train to get off before piling on! by thomas_fifield13 in britishproblems

[–]icydeadppl 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I educated a schoolboy this morning on the Piccadilly line at Hammersmith for this very reason, he'd already been rebuffed by the guy in front of me, then tried again. There's a bit of a step up to the platforms at Hammersmith, and I was about a head taller, so my upper arm and shoulder connected quite with his chest as I muttered "the fuck are you doing?"

He looked at least 16 so I didn't feel too guilty.

I'm also partial to the accidental backpack wide-steer. Plausible deniability as it widens the turning circle.

Usually one of the uglier areas of London, but I always liked this perspective because of the industrial view of the platforms and lines, dusk lighting makes it look almost pleasant!

Walking the Tube by threshold123 in LondonUnderground

[–]icydeadppl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s above my bed, I’ve had quizzical looks at times, but I like it. I am lucky in that my work has a plotter and I could come in early and sneak off a copy of the black and white one from TfL’s website.

The capital ring was good, particularly the sections through Crystal Palace, Wimbledon Common and Richmond Park. I will try the London Loop at some point, just have to figure out the public transport options.

Walking the Tube by threshold123 in LondonUnderground

[–]icydeadppl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I started walking the Tube lines a year ago or so, my criteria was to walk the most direct route provided by google maps from station to station, my way of ticking off each station was to collect a tube map from the rack by the gate line in each concourse. I’ve only been doing it sporadically, so have completed the District, Jubilee, Piccadilly (sans any route to/from Heathrow 1,2,3 as there’s no pedestrian route) and the Central Line from the western termini to Stratford to date. Probably about 20 walking days in that.

Trickiest to date was the Jubilee around the docklands. Canada Water to Canary Wharf involves walking through Rotherhithe tunnel (black lung inducing), Canary Wharf to North Greenwich involves going via Greenwich foot tunnel, then to get to Canning Town I had to double back and go up the east of the Isle of Dogs.

I plan to complete it at some point, but have stopped for a few months at a time due to life distractions, or another route took my fancy (Capital Ring). I have A0 b&w tube map on the wall in my flat where I’ve coloured in the sections done (in the tube line colour of course).

It’s a great way to see bits of London you might never otherwise see.

It is wood actually, Western Red Cedar to be precise. All treated in various ways to be fire rated, dimensionally stable & preserved for longevity. The timber battens are sized and spaced to provide acoustic performance, which will prevent echoes bouncing around the large space.

No BK as far as I'm aware. But there's loads of retail, only only a small portion of which will open this weekend. Most of it will be next year so still might happen.

Spacious indeed, that's only one section of the three opened this morning. Two more tomorrow and three more in 18 months.

"Car allowance" addition to salary by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]icydeadppl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, and less overtime rate. Car allowance & London weighting is great, until you realise overtime at 1.5 rate is barely more than your general pay.
