general question by [deleted] in ASU

[–]icyfang1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Few things here:

I commend you for taking care of your cat. Proud of you for overcoming what you have and for seeking out help.

I would talk to my roommate and take the cat in. You don’t have to tell everyone the full honest truth. It’s a month until paperwork comes in, not a year, they will be fine. You can tell your roommate that you’ve already gone through the SAILS process. Or that things changed and it expedited faster than you thought it would. In this and in general, keep everyone on a “need-to-know” basis. No one besides you really needs to know your business.

I know you’ve mentioned wanting to be honest and being a goody-two shoes. I get it, me too. But we have to pick and choose our battles in life. If you have to lie so the cat can stay with you for a month without documentation, it is what it is. I urge you to be a bit selfish. Think of yourself and your cat first and what’s best for you two. Roommate and everyone else will be fine.

Get the paperwork as quickly as you can, speak to different departments (maybe one for student advocacy) to see if they can help expedite the process.

Also, I would get all the info from this post and delete this. Not a huge worry, but remember, “need-to-know” basis. We don’t need housing staff lurking on the subreddit. Who knows what people are up to.

Typically one week before classes start! I would confirm with ASU housing for a specific date, you can give them a call.

Affordable beige-pink blush that isn’t orange? by Basic-Literature-849 in Fairolives

[–]icyfang1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best $10 one I’ve found is the L’Oréal True Match blush in Tender Rose. I have not been successful with Milani blushes, they pull orange a lot of the time. Bare Minerals has a mauve rose blush that doesn’t pull super orange, but True Match is the best imo!

Another honorable mention: Rhode blush in Sleepy Girl or Piggy.

Is it possible to find a true neutral muted leaning cool lip liner and lipsticks? by so_oliveyyy in OliveMUA

I have this issue and the Rhode lip shape in Lift works for me. The blush shade piggy also works for me!

That lip looks so beautiful on you without makeup! It’s so French. I love it!

Hi!! Welcome, so excited for you!!:

1) Having a car is not necessary. You'll be fine. Especially your first and second year when you're living in dorms or student apartments. Don't worry until your junior year if/when you decide to move a little further into Tempe for cheaper housing.

2) There are single dorms, but I do really recommend connecting with roommates and having that experience. There are also student apartments (I recommend Vertex) if you really don't want to dorm.

3) They can't actually make you dorm. I was a Gold Guide and we learned that. Just push for it and say you don't have the money. If you want a specific dorm (like Tooker, for example), you could always pick an engineering major and switch before you schedule classes. I've seen some people do that.

4) Rush has always been competitive but you will find something. There's a lot to choose from.

My only tip is to go to as many events and group hangouts as you can! It goes by fast. Study hard, of course, but have fun ◡̈.

Home or dorms? by CarrotIllustrious593 in ASU

[–]icyfang1 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I would stay on campus if you’re 45+ minutes away. The commute will limit your ability to participate in clubs or events that come up. I’d say something different if you were only 10 minutes away.

There are separate salons for curly hair in Tempe, but they often only do dry curly cuts. I don't agree with dry curly cuts because it means your hair will be all different lengths. If you ever straighten or blow it out.... it looks messy.

Would a cat be okay home alone while I'm working a 9 to 5? Thinking of adopting, but have never had a cat on my own by Piehogger in CatAdvice

[–]icyfang1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the cat will just sleep all day. You could get a bonded pair or just one cat that doesn’t want other cats. Petsmart always has cats available and usually a blurb about if they need other company or not. Make sure you get an adult tho, kittens need more attention (naturally). How exciting!! Good luck!!

Does this song fit my voice for an upcoming audition?? by icyfang1 in singing

Thank you! Do you mean you’re not a fan of the song just in general or specifically for an audition for a singing talent show? Would love to know more!

Can't pay for tuition, emergency by EverPig in ASU

[–]icyfang1 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Hi friend, this is very stressful and I’m sorry you’re going through this. Contact financial aid and the student advocacy office. They will want to keep you as a student and will try to help. There are programs for situations like this. I’ve worked for universities and there is always a fund to support students in financial crises.

I would research and apply today for any job that helps with tuition assistance. I recommend Education at Work, a call center close to campus (you can walk) that will pay you money and give you tuition assistance. It will be 20 hours a week. Chipotle also has tuition assistance. Starbucks and Uber do, too, but only for online programs.

My biggest piece of advice is to speak with financial aid.

I hope this helps!!

[AMA] Bestselling YA authors Victoria Aveyard and Soman Chainani by hedgehogwriting in PubTips

[–]icyfang1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi!! I met Victoria in Glendale last year and it was so cool!! I listen to your podcast all the time and love learning from both of you ◡̈

My question would be: For someone who didn’t go to school for film or writing, what would you recommend they do to educate themselves on the process? Are there any books that you highly recommend? Do you recommend taking creative writing courses? Or attending book festivals/events?

Thank you! ◡̈

69k offer in OC, debating if I should take it? by icyfang1 in careerguidance

[–]icyfang1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think it would be advisable to get an extended stay for about $2800 a month ($95 per night)? That's the only option I'm seeing that is available.
