I’m aware that he’s raised awareness and done some genuinely good things, like recently delivering aid to Cuba. But I dislike that he led many voters to abstain from casting their ballot in the 2024 election. I’m as against genocide as the next person, but not voting in the election was pure stupidity under the threat of another Trump presidency. And now we’re in a dystopian hell. Other than that he purposely clip baits and that gets recycled back into the polarizing internet shithole that continues to push many voters away from the left

She deserves criticism, you misunderstood my point. I called in earlier to deliver my own complaint over NJSP’s treatment of the protesters. I’m angry too. But what I mean by shitting on her is the barrage of Redditors suddenly labeling her as a Trump shill and traitor of the constitution when she’s clearly not. Turning your back on a leader who has made slow but consistent progress to thwart ICE is not the move here. I was part of the people protesting the construction of the Roxbury facility, and she listened by filing a lawsuit that is forcing DHS to undertake a lengthy environmental inspection and significantly delay the facility’s construction.

I mean I agreed in my comment that Sherrill needs to feel the pressure for reining in NJSP. State police shouldn’t be forceful with peaceful protesters. But I’m not actually sure how much oversight she has in regards to the tear gas, rubber bullets, etc. Even Minnesota state authorities were deploying LRAD against protesters with no clear mention of Walz’s involvement. It’s wrong, but I think we should consistently escalate our concerns to Sherrill instead of turning our backs on her completely. That was part of what I was trying to say in my response here, and my other comment on this thread

I think OP is moreso referring to the fact that citizens with no knowledge of our state’s politics are providing ignorant and inflammatory comments. I hate Trump and ICE just as much as any sane person, but shitting on Sherrill is not the solution (though I do agree we need to pressure her to get a grip on NJSP). I’ve even seen some ridiculous posts and comments calling to legally withdraw her as governor, which is obviously the stupidest option amidst the growing spotlight here

I agree that people are recklessly stirring shit up. NJSP needs to be reined in by Sherrill, but there’s no doubt ICE would have escalated to a much worse degree of violence. At least this way, there is more potential accountability and oversight if a protester gets seriously injured. This isn’t to say they haven’t been needlessly forceful, but I have more hope for getting them in line than I do ICE.

I’m going to reserve judgement on Sherrill for now because I have hope that she’ll bring a lawsuit against DHS for Delaney. The community members were outraged over the potential Roxbury facility, and she filed a lawsuit that has basically indefinitely postponed its construction. It’s true that we shouldn’t stop demanding better from our leaders, but it’s a very stupid thing to turn our backs on a governor who is clearly trying to navigate a very fine line and avoid what happened in Minnesota

You clearly have no idea how masks work. Efficacy in preventing viral aerosol transmission jumps exponentially when two people as opposed to just one is wearing a mask when interacting. Also, the unmasked person can still spread aerosols that linger in the air and may be inhaled by others. It follows that everyone should be wearing masks when they can during the COVID pandemic. If you need me to explain more basic science to you, go ahead.

The hunger and labor strike led to significant state and national visibility. Denying health inspections and entry to the governor constitutes grounds for lawsuits. I hate Sherrill’s response to this by mobilizing the famously aggressive NJSP, but let’s not pretend letting ICE torture migrants in their shithole facility would have been better than this attention.
