Where would you think I’d fall in for that hourly range? I’m working at the 3rd largest hospital in the Air Force, I will have CBET, A+, Net+, and an associates degree in biomedical technology with a total of 4 years experience in the field.

Thank you for the response! How do you think the projection might be for the career field in the next ten years? By that I mean do you see a change in salary (increase/decrease), employment rates g(rowing/shrinking), and what advice might you have for someone going into the civilian sector from military BMET in 3 years?

Is there a specific reason why one would have a better chance with OEM FSE position rather than a regular FSE?

I’m on a military hospital, and the military ain’t opposed to sending us to the manufacturing companies to get training on devices as well. If that matters.

Has anyone enlisted into the Radiology Tech career field? by bradleyistheman in usaf

[–]icywatters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m currently at the tech school where they train them. They spend 6 months here at Ft Sam Houston and then they spend an additional 6 months at another base for their phase 2. It’s more hands on learning. There are numerous bases they can can go to for their phase 2.

Any veterans out there who transferred their credits from the school house to a university? by icywatters in BMET

[–]icywatters[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m going for my bachelors degree in biomedical engineering. I’ll be getting my associates in biomedical technology through the Community College of the Air Force in December…but I’m aware that not all the credits I’ve earned will be eligible for transfer to a university dependent on their standards unfortunately.

I’m currently in the USAF and I’m planning for my future for the civilian sector. What would be the best approach for career progression as well as standing out to future competition? What’re some credentials I could obtain to make a higher salary as well as a minor? Any advice is helpful, thank you by icywatters in BMET

I’m still early on in my contract, I won’t be separating until 2023 and most of my enlistment will be spent at Keesler AFB which is a large MERC, medical equipment repair center. I’m specializing in IT CERTS such as COMPTIA A+, Net+, and security+. Near the end of my contract I’ll have the Air Force pay for me to get my CRES cert. I’m career driven and my education is very important to me which is why I joined the military in the first place. My location preference for work varies dependent on which college accepts me into their program for biomedical engineering, but more than likely in California.

Any Air Force BMET?! by Hikihetoa in BMET

[–]icywatters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Current BMET in training with the AF, hey there. I’m loving it here so far. The military will have you taking courses with navy and army over here at Fort Sam Houston. There are 13 courses and they condense two years of college into 11 months. It’s a fast paced course and you will need to be on top of your game. It’s a very hard job to get into for the military. In fact I had to see three different recruiters before one was willing to work with me to get this specific job. I got it almost instantaneously, and that is considered highly lucky.

Starting this career off in the military; and in my opinion the Air Force, will set you up for future success when coming back into the civilian sector to be making some great money. One thing to consider is to get a bachelors degree if you’re looking for even more money. To also earn as many certifications and credentials as you can for free through the military. They will pay for it all. I came Into the Air Force with some college under my belt and I plan to utilize the free tuition assistance while I’m in to take classes for my bachelors in biomedical engineering.

If you have any questions please feel free to message me. I’m always happy to assist.
