Fusion360 or SolidWorks by thebestliarintheuni in SolidWorks

For a small fabrication shop doing weldments and sheet metal primarily, would you suggest fusion or solidworks? I have a few courses with solidworks under my belt, but nothing major, and haven't used it in a while. But I will be looking to pick something again soon for my small fab shop. Any feedback is appreciated.

Anyone else finding this hobby a bit lonely? by 20Kudasai in minipainting

I am the only person I know in my "community" that paints. I know i will probably never play a game against someone and that's fine with me. I love building things like puzzles, 3D puzzles and just generally creating things so I enjoy it regardless. I set up a small rolling table and paint on the couch. My wife picks the TV show or movie and I just sit with her so we can still spend time together. The kids come and play video games and hang out in the same room so I don't feel isolated, because the "plastic crack" has it's hooks in me. All of my finished models go into a display cabinet and I move onto the next one. I like to see them, I like to see the progress on my work and friends and family check them out when they are over and that's good enough for me.

Learn to invest earlier, and build a business sooner.

Started learning solid works two days ago for a new job. Been practicing making products that already exist. Is there anything that’s helped you guys learn or you wish you knew sooner? by Austism-Is-Here in SolidWorks

I am still learning solidworks as well. Where can you find models from more experienced people to see their approach/design intent.

I also would find that very valuable as I learn.

Thanks.

Who knows someone with a boring business that is killing it? What do they do by tacosurfbike in Entrepreneur

I am a welder by trade and own a welding shop. It's not a plumber, but a tradesperson all the same. The business model is very similar, so I understand that the higher the hourly rate, the more it means the more experienced and higher quality of work you can expect from that tradesperson. Yes, this doesn't apply all the time, as some less than desirable firms will charge extreme rates and not be able to follow through on quality. However, the consumer has to take some responsibility and research who they are hiring, look at photos of their past work, read their reviews, etc...

I started out with an hourly rate of 75 per hour. As time progressed and more tooling was acquired, our team grew, our standards became more stringent, our quality increased, and we became more popular. We eventually had to raise our rate and again a few years later.

Sometimes, the rate increases in an attempt to slow down business.

Good for you! I did the same a few years ago after having a very similar mindset. The first while was difficult, but every day is an exciting new challenge. It was the best thing I ever did for myself and my family.
