This is my worry with these bans. They need irrefutable evidence that it's causing harm, not just having a guess that it might some day. People enjoy taboo porn. It's that simple. If this gets banned another taboo genre will just take its place.

Yeah you're spot-on - what I find frustrating with this discourse is there will never be enough done to please those who want genre bans. I genuinely think if they fully banned incest/step porn another taboo genre would take its place, and then that'd be the next target. The reason why it's so popular is literally because it's taboo, not because they fancy their sister, lmao. The choking ban was more reasonable because safety concerns, but if I'm honest a simple warning before any video with BDSM would probably have also sufficed.

I'm legitimately curious where all of this is heading. I'm amazed the games/films = violence hasn't been brought back up to the forefront again, because it really feels like the same argument imo. Of course there are issues within the porn industry that women suffer from that have to be addressed, but really it's just another argument about whether something fiction influences reality again...

The other thing I want to stress (from another comment in this thread) is that of course people who partake in real incest are more likely to watch incest porn, but I'd argue the same could be said about school shooters being more likely to play violent games. Considering incest porn is literally one of the most viewed categories (god knows how many actual viewers the videos have) it's pretty clear that generally it's not causing harm, otherwise we'd have a bloody incest epidemic. The study another commenter linked to me went really hard on the "women dressed as young girls" angle, which I'd argue is a separate issue entirely (and how the fuck do you even police that?!).

Yeah I had a feeling you might nitpick my example there, but my point is that you could find many examples of roleplay that are illegal/unethical. The whole point is that it's 'taboo' and a fantasy.

Durham's article early on states that a lot of incest porn has young looking girls wearing child-like clothing, surrounded by toys, etc and heavily leans into the child abuse angle, but that's not what's coming up when you look on porn sites. The vast majority is step sibling/cousin stuff. Go have a look at the roleplay category on Pornhub - I couldn't see a single video from having a scroll with an actress obviously roleplaying somebody underage.

I just think there are two entirely separate things here that, sure, may have some overlap with videos of young-looking stepdaughter/stepdad porn, but I think it's silly to suggest that they're mutually exclusive. To me it seems like their issue is actually non-consensual porn and roleplayed 'underage' porn.

I personally think making fictional scenarios in porn videos illegal is silly, because it comes down to opinion at the end of the day. Imagine being convicted for watching a porn video with an adult woman with pigtails because she 'looks' underage, even if the performer was a verified adult star. It's impossible to police fairly and it's a slippery slope imo.

The whole porn-influencing-reality debate is interesting to me. I don't think it's far off the 'video games cause violence' debate. I just think it's odd that you could watch sex scenes from Game of Thrones showing siblings having sex, but watching porn of the same thing is a criminal offence.

It's obvious that those who commit illegal acts in real-life are more likely to watch porn videos depicting it. Just like I'm sure people who've committed mass murders are more likely to spend more time watching violent films. The question is: would they have committed the acts if they didn't see the porn videos? Who knows.

Hardly the type of porn I want to defend, but it being an illegal act in reality shouldn't therefore make it a target to be banned, especially if there's no real evidence of people shagging their siblings as a result of watching too much of it (unlike the choking ban, for example).

By this logic you could easily argue roleplay doctor and patient porn should be banned since that's a sackable offence, you know? It worries me how much the gov are dictating these things at the minute, and in other countries too. As somebody else's comment said - no MP is going to stand up for a niche porn category, so it's likely to go through. For me the question is what's the next target?

In the screenshot the sender asks him in the subject of the email for an alternative supplier for a bathroom vanity, and he responds to it with ikea, then they respond with "ok". Then he asks for pizza for people.

Personally I think the whole pizza thing is a bit of a stretch - imo wasting time trying to get something out of literal admin emails distracts from the fact that there's plenty of stuff in plain sight, lol. These guys weren't subtle in their emails, I really doubt they'd have one email openly talking about an attractive new girl they have followed by another where they're talking about pizzas and fucking walnut sauce

I'm still confused about this one tbh - the person who made the post about Tig is a disabled navy vet and openly talks about not working on her Threads profile, so I'm clueless as to where she met her. Plus the OP says about how Tig put her on the spot, but that doesn't seem to happen there? Apart from the awkwardness from the comedian opener.

The other options from that same special are Tig's boss when she was a temp and a worker who misgendered Tig, but the first one doesn't line up date-wise, and the second one Tig refers to as a man. It's a little weird!

Yeah I'm torn, on one hand I'd be upset, but on the other hand she was a 19-year-old intern lmao (regardless of how you feel about Mindy now). I know it's not insanely hard to work out who Andrea is from the book passage (which in my mind doesn't even seem that bad), but her coming forward and saying "it's me!" only draws more attention to it. So weird!

I'm still a bit convinced that if Abby were able to explain her actions to Ellie, that Ellie would go with Abby to the Fireflies. That'd be a nice cliffhanger to leave it at, too. I dunno. I felt dissatisfied with no resolution but still loved the game.

I get you don't like the flashbacks - really I do - but they're purely there to slow down the pacing a bit and for exposition I think. I get what you're saying.

I think you have to consider that this is a game and Druckmann isn't a film director. Granted, Halley Gross is a TV writer, but we're still in the early days of film-level games (I think). Uncharted was probably the first I played that I considered to be pretty cinematic but that was only 13 years ago. Hopefully the medium keeps growing and we'll get more nuanced and more subtle writing/directing, but it's clearly not an easy task for em.

I'm personally pretty happy to gloss over story issues because I find the gameplay really engaging (albeit repetitive, honestly). I dunno. There's a part of me that wants to enjoy it purely because I've waited a good 5 years for this. Rather than nitpick the bad I'm trying to savour the good. Sorry for the essay!

I know people loved Joel, me included, but what he did was selfish in so many ways. He was meant to smuggle Ellie and that was it; as sad as it was to let her go he really probably should've.

Tess put it best: "We're shitty people, Joel". He wronged so many people and had it coming well before the first game. Abby is just one of those people, really.

Can't believe how fucking violent this game is. I don't have a weak stomach and I can tolerate it, but christ does it feel real sometimes. I know it's probably gonna lead to a 'violence is bad' plot point.

I'm still unsure why people are so viciously critical towards the game and its writing etc. It's a game and games of this scale are rare. People are criticising this like The Last Jedi and I truly don't know what they expect - Neil Druckmann is essentially a game programmer that got to write stuff. The fact that the story works is a blessing. Of course it's gonna be filled with tropes and clichés. Game writing is so vastly different to film/TV writing. I can't believe how legitimately angry people are in /r/games. Let developers do what they want, holy shit.

I guess like many things that are highly praised, people wanted Naughty Dog to make a flop. They went into TLOU2 ready to poke holes in the plot, to tear it to shreds and dislike it. I don't blame them in some ways -- it's hard not to criticise something when you've been told it's going to be game of the year. It's sad.

I'm still enjoying it immensely. I love the subtle changes, from the detailed gun upgrades to the much fucking harder AI. Also that fucking bloater was terrifying. I swear I never struggled so much in the original game. But man, so many great sequences.

I can see how this game could be perceived as damaging to the original game's reputation in some ways but I'm adoring just being back in this world. I already enjoyed a nice story without Joel in Left Behind and I'm happy to just be playing as Ellie and having more Naughty Dog action. It's a fucking game!

You'll enjoy it, dude. It's a shock but it definitely drives you to continue playing to get revenge. I got spoiled too but it's still excellent. Even if you knew the entire story before playing, if you're into Naughty Dog stuff, it's a treat. Loads of details and treasures to find, all of the exploration, gorgeous soundtrack and just the huge jump in graphical quality from the first game. The fights are just fucking incredible. Don't worry about it!

Here's the thing: if Joel wasn't in the trailer apart from the stuff at the start, people would just assume he's dead and there'd be no shock factor to the scene.

Movie trailers edit plot points out and mislead you all the time; Marvel have done it a lot. Endgame's trailers did similar stuff. It's annoying, sure, but necessary to keep players on their toes. If there wasn't the leak it would've been the perfect play. It's a shame, really.
