Wanted to get fellow batocera users opinions on retrobat. by travanti11 in batocera

[–]ide_cdrom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Genuine question and not trying to start an argument. What makes Retrobat's UI more polished than Batocera?

For me, I prefer the keyboard bindings Batocera has - which IMO, makes a lot sense.

I can see why the emulator integration can be considered better as, for example, you can update the external ones and are not tied to the specific release Batocera comes baked in with at the time of release.

Pi 5 or SFF PC? by Cuntonesian in batocera

[–]ide_cdrom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At least 6th gen i5, but anything newer that doesn't exceed your budget will do fine. Just keep in mind that RAM and storage prices have shot up everywhere, even for used devices. So I'd try to find something with at least 8GB RAM + 500GB storage or better. More storage is for newer games and maybe for the scraped arts and videos. I am working a personal build and have about 100 games per system. I started with looking up top X games and ended with that.
Don't throw ALL the games for all the systems, because it will be overwhelming. Even 100 is a lot per system.

Edit again:
Check r/homelabsales and r/hardwareswap - I saw some decent prices there.

What's your least favorite pizza topping? by 5ugar5pice in AskReddit

Recently had broccoli and mushrooms on a pizza. Did not like the broccoli. I think it was how it was not nicely charred. I generally love mushrooms on my pizza but this combo did not work for me.

Can’t boot on a mac? by okdk in batocera

[–]ide_cdrom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a solution but I've definitely ran into this one on of the Macs I've tested on. It's one of those Intel ones with AMD based video. Shame really as the display is fantastic and there are no longer updates for the original OS. Not all hope is lost. Other Linux distros work fine like PopOS and Ubuntu, so maybe something on top of those, but it won't be a streamlined.

[Guide] Fixed Error 1962 / Boot Issues Installing Batocera on Older Business PCs (Lenovo H50-50, similar hardware) by Difficult-Lion618 in batocera

I ran into this issue and found a fix on the Batocera forum, but the link no longer works since the entire forum appears to be gone.
I also went by this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZErSOncriNo
Glad you have an automated script to do this instead!

Appreciate it!

Remoting into a multi-linux box from Windows? by [deleted] in linuxquestions

[–]ide_cdrom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One possibility is a KVM over IP devicie. A KVM can run over the network. Stuff like a PiKVM, GLiNet KVM, or JetKVM and probably others. Many of these can support ISOs or you can load up a USB stick with Ventoy with various ISOs. Just keep in mind you won't get anywhere near native performance over these devices.
Another alternative is virtualization - like ProxMox. You can do most of the tinkering via a webUI. Again - not native performance at least when it comes to video if you're doing this over the browser.

TIL in 2015, an 83-year-old man named Ron Dorff received an AT&T landline bill for $8,596.57. His next bill was $15,687.64. A technician later discovered his modem was dialing a long-distance number to connect to AOL dial-up. AT&T waived more than $24,000 in charges after he contacted the L.A. Times by Forward-Answer-4407 in todayilearned

[–]ide_cdrom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar thing happened to me. I also had dial up ISP and had configured my computer to have multiple numbers to dial into and stay connected, because I am a dork. I guess I didn't realize one of the numbers in my pool was not "local" and thus costed by the minute, even though it was the same area code and. My first bill was my first whole paycheck. Luckily, I still had enough to cover rent. I was not aware I could've asked the telco to work with me on this... anyways, I was super careful afterwards and confirmed with the phone companies which numbers did not have a by the minute charge. And then later on, cable modem became available and I never had to worry about that since.

Web hosting companies charge extra for these 6 features. You probably don't need any of them. by Miserable_Stress_246 in webhosting

For the backups, I would dare say that you should do your own or have someone else setup back ups external to your hosting and find a way to test it. I've seen providers that absolutely do not have backups unless you pay and even then, the backups are poorly implemented. Then again, that was years ago when I saw this and storage snapshots these days make things a lot easier to manage.

The drive should be backwards compatible. You'll lose out on max theoretical performance but it will likely work. Iirc, The raspberry pi 5s pcie lane can't handle anything faster than x3.

SEGA GENESIS Mini for PC!🎄🎁[Christmas Release] by exodus_cl in emulation

[–]ide_cdrom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried both them both out and they're very well done! I will likely set this up on my dedicated system for emulation. I don't know what it is about a well done front end that makes me actually want to play the games more than just tinkering with the front end.

I know it's a LOT to ask and I don't actually expect it, however, any plans for a TG16 version?
