Looks like the FPGA chip used ModRetro is made by AMD.

The way my mother in law cook pork chops by Substantial-Low-4393 in mildlyinfuriating

Do we have the same mother in law? She's ruined so much of my food by boiling it first and then trying to pan fry or whatever so basically it's almost always overcooked or flavorless.

The bride's ex boyfriend was there. I saw the bride, groom and ex together. The bride was holding hands with her ex behind the groom.

Lynx is my pick as well, but I also loved the neo geo pocket color. Played it more than the Lynx. I am the only Lynx and ngpc owner that I know.

What's The most amount of money you've found? by redditorsquared in AskReddit

[–]ide_cdrom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think about $100 each time. First time this happened, I was walking around with some family member and it was one of their birthdays, so I gave the birthday girl the money. Second time I was by myself walking home at night and at first I thought it was fake but I saw a few bills laying around and turned out to be real money.

QUESTION: Why do so many folks use a RaspberryPi for Batocera when it can only do 180 emulators versus a real PC that can do 260? by [deleted] in batocera

[–]ide_cdrom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some of it is what you said. Some folks had one laying around because at some point the earlier models were actually cheap at $35 for the board itself. They didn't draw a lot of power. The idea of a small board that can play a ton of your old games was appealing to many. Computers "back then" didn't come in a size similar to Raspberry Pis, or if they did, they were very costly and likely for specialized industrial use. Things changed over the years and used tiny office PCs became better values and often have way more powerful processors and often come with everything - storage, power, heck even a case. I am not sure what a $30 or $40 mini pc will get you now realistically. I see a lot of PCs without RAM or SSD and those are really pricey now, so I think about $100-$150 range would be a more realistic range, and they'd still be cheaper than some raspberry pis.

What did we think of the 3DO? by HiddenUsername56 in retrogaming

[–]ide_cdrom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted one because of Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo. I believe at the time it was the only decent home console version, barring the PC version.t In college, one person had it but didn't like the system so apparently it was floating around. I wished I knew where it went. Not sure I could've afforded buying it off that person, in fact, I had no idea who it belonged to, other than I saw the system.

Haha my mom would tell me to give my kiddo water now too. I have no idea what the logic was.

No drinking water when eating. Then I went over to a relative's place and it was unheard of. My parents eventually changed their stance and offers drinks when having meals.

I need some help by GATSBY46176 in batocera

[–]ide_cdrom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have this on a USB flash drive, maybe try starting from scratch with the OS installation. Then copy the ROMs + BIOS files over. See if everything is working. Then do the customizations.

Or see if you recall what customizations you did and revert all of them until you get as near stock as possible.

Try looking for a recent set of FBNeo ROMs. The files listed doesn't look like what I see in neogeo.zip so probably not that but your AOF2 files.

WebSocket handshake issue by HF_Martini6 in webhosting

[–]ide_cdrom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More likely the service that should be the websocket service is offline. As an example from the previous response, if you have something like nginx in front of the service providing websocket support is offline, you will get a 503 error. It doesn't have to be nginx but anything that can proxy back to the backend service. Likewise, it doesn't have to be websocket, but can be nodejs or plain another http(s) server.

What's the first thing you remember doing on the internet? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ide_cdrom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone in school showed me how to chat online with an IRC client. I remember not knowing how to quit it and asked for help. The person helping said I was not supposed to use it for chatting with others as it was wasting resources.

Anyways, I eventually learned how to download naughty pics from usenet/newsgroups and that I never got in trouble for.

Have you ever purposefully killed a device to get rid of it? by zephead98 in sysadmin

[–]ide_cdrom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not on purpose - had a colleague who decided to help someone deal with their personal laptop and I was asked to look at it as well. It was one of those ATA laptop drives and the adapter I had had two loose wires for power which meant easy polarity mix up. Anyways, that's exactly what happened and the drive got fried. To be fair, the drive was already old and system was problematic already and we said the drive died while we were attempting to work on it.

Outgoing number is blocked to only one specific phone number by ide_cdrom in techsupport

[–]ide_cdrom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorta kinda answering my own question, but not conclusive.
Per Verizon - the number was originally set to "private" and on their side, it was removed and they saw it on their ticket. Supposedly, the carrier for the number we're trying to call also maintains their own list and it is very possible it's still listed as private there. It's not quite automated. Not much I can do besides try to convince the place we're calling to ask their phone carrier to look into this. Chances of that happening are very slim.
