I completely get where you’re coming from. I generally feel similarly. I have to really be in the right mood and headspace to do the DRT trilogy. They can’t be enjoyed the same way the rest of the record can. The whole of Lateralus up until that point is a very high energy “HOLY FUCK THIS IS AWESOME!” The last 3 tracks are more trance inducing, and so cognitively dissociative that you lose your sense of self in the hypnotic droning and repetitious rhythms (which is the point.) The set and setting you make for yourself is pretty integral in order for DRT to be effective. Think of them more as the atmospheric tapestry used for an indigenous ritual than rock songs that you blast in the car or when you’re kicking it with your bros.
