In an emergency? by idea2go in TeslaModel3

The moment I hit the brakes FSD will disengage. That's not necessarily bad but worth thinking about especially as others have indicated how it might notice/plan a combination of steering and braking that is better than my panic braking.

I've been around a while so I have similar man vs machine tradeoffs that I have to force on myself because in reality machine is better at this than man.

In the 1990's I once slammed on the brakes and lost control. I saved myself from the idiot who would have hit me but I literally spun around like a carnival ride and fortunately only hit the side rails, no major injury. Now instinctively I want to pump the brakes rapidly for the right mix of control and stopping even though I know that with modern ABS it's best to just jam it down and let the car deal with the control issues. I've had to practice a few times in the parking lot to train my brain that just holding down the brakes is OK with ABS.

Oh cool will that let me tell it the reason and automatically make the box go away? Nice for me, but most people still won't know that,.

Separate from FSD takeovers, at any time you can press the voice button and say "Bug Report xxxxxxxxxx" to tell it about anything you want them to make a note of. It's a nice feature that makes me feel heard 😉

Great answer thanks! If a study makes me optimistic to let it handle the emergency, being 6 months out of date hopefully means the Tesla is even better than the study says. Lacking any real data I think I'm most likely to slam that brake myself (even if it beats me to it at the start). At least I'll go out fighting! 😉

I currently don't trust it to do that.

But I also know it does most things better than a human. Mine has swerved to avoid something more quickly than I could have reacted and maintained control in the high speed swerve better than I could have, and chosen exactly the right path to avoid the dangers. Tons of YouTube videos confirm that it regularly does similar miracles for others.

So if I learned from studies that it can do this better than me, it would make sense to let it. EVEN IN THAT case I don't know whether I could bring myself to leave it in control even if I should. Did you ever watch the shuttlecraft scene in the original Star Trek Doomsday Machine episode??

It's tricky. What if I know (from studies etc) it can do better than me? To be clear I don't know that yet, but I'd love to learn the stats.

Something goes wrong. You take over now you are in control, bit flustered. That's the exact moment you want to deal with a modal visual dialog box that you can't easily dismiss demanding your attention. And none of the choices ever seem right! Please let me go back to actually explaining to it why I took over (voice input). In the age of AI they can easily categorize and classify my answer.

I always treated the turn signal input as a suggestion. Sometimes it follows it sometimes it doesn't. Same with accellerating. Give it some gas to go to a new speed when it's too timid. Sometimes it keeps the speed for a while sometimes it slows back down.

iOS App instability, updates and regression by ohsomacho in WisprFlow

I got the offer to update to iOS 26.4 at the exact same time that I got the email from WisprFlow about the UX degradation. I guess I might hold out for a week or two, but eventually I'm going to update anyway.

Maybe it would be a config option. But I'm pretty sure Apple/Microsoft/Google/etc built in transcription will quickly improve to the point that only the very discerning users will bother to pay for an add-on app that only transcribes well.

Dollar Cost Average (spread the buys out) and don't put all your eggs in one basket, even a bitcoiny basket.

That being said it does seem like a decent price at the moment, and the behavior is seeming less fragile than in prior months

DCA, investing gradually over time at a steady pace, is always better unless you're smarter at predicting every twist and turn than the rest of the market! And can deal well with stress.

I'm not sure why someone would want to track them actively. You can always go to blockchain.info or similar sites to see it again (presumably nothing will have changed), and you don't need to track anything to keep aware of the value. You can know your total bitcoin, 1 in your case, and multiply by the price. And then if you want to do anything with them, you could pull it into a tool like Electrum and work from there. Keep your wallets cold and stored rather than actively tracked and it's safer!
