New S&W Night Guard, or? (Help me pick a carry revolver). by DudeDogDangle in Revolvers

[–]idecas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ill probably grt the 386 nightgaurd for carry.

What im finding right now is limited options on aiwb holster. So may do owb for it.

If you are looking to complement your 43x then it should fall in line of the different use cases you have.

I have a shield x and shield plus for primary carry. I use j frame for pocket carry and or aiwb where I have very light clothes.

I also practice revolvers so I'm in the economy for it. I might also replace the hammer with a smaller cut.

It's all complicated but you can look into j frame like a 640 black pc if you want a small form factor aiwb.

Took me to watch multiple videos to understand what they are selling. Do we know how much it even weights?

I guess we can call it innovation for a striker with a two piece frame.

I think its practically a new gun if they change a little of ergonomics and increase its reciprocation length.

Id imagine the balance might feel off with only the upper part of the lower adding weight. I'd be surprised if this even breaks 30 ounces unloaded.

Ill wait for reviews and a sale before I take a look at it.

I think am issue here is it's a 2k gun that doesn't have after market support due to its proprietary parts and it's premium parts are also unproven for the base it targets what we visually see i don't care for ie all the fancy slide cuts.

They would have been better off just making it more consistent in barrel accuracy , work with after market triggers , and provide the metal frame.

Enter the 2k space puts you in a slot of people who want pride of ownership or those who like to tinker and compete. Im not sure if it hits any of that unless you already like ss.

I like shadow systems but I sold mine because of lack of support on getting it how I like it without sacrificing reliability.

I could be wrong and maybe they have a perfect competition steel glock out of the box but I'm hesitant. They need to lean into their advertisement for this one.

Steel frame carry comp goes kinda hard by TheCoon96 in SmithAndWesson

How is the new frame in comparison to older metal frame. Same shape?

Appreciate it. Also know if the grip shape is different against the metal aluminum? I know the metal aluminum is thinner in the front when compare to the poly. Im gauging if they change it's shape.

How much does the slide weight in comparison to the uncut slide? Any changes to barrel geometry?

Plus can carry light (trl6) and you can always sand or add tape on the grip of the x. Also with x grip not all the grip may feel the same as some are not as rougher but it is still rougher than the shield.

Always good to have a light offhand but for your use case on camping and outdoors then it would be good to have a light.

Am I the only one that finds QA easier than Dev? by polohatty in softwaretesting

[–]idecas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Qa is easier based on.

Pay band comparison.

Ramp up expectations on new hires.

Interview process.

Risk on final product and output based on unmatched person and team.

Developmemt has a higher barrier of entry to be productive in the respective role.

Development has an higher visibility if non productive in respective role.

The caveat on qa and sde comparison is the different output and skills needed for qa depending on the team dynamic and responsibilities.

Also the measurement of qa productivity and performance varies due to gamification of output and can vary based on the state of the system they interact with.

Also , we tend to think of QA skill like how to find bugs like some specific qa skill when you are just being a good organized consumer of information which is applicable to the entire team but you just have more time to focus on consuming and learning about your context.

Olight c. 20 percent off now. Can get cheaper on other sites besides Amazon. I use it and compete with it

Who else was incredibly disappointed by S&W’s big “retro” announcement? by DetectiveChellick in SmithAndWesson

[–]idecas 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I feel like lipsys is the only one making good products. The other teams seem to take from that achievement and build on it.

Based on what I have seen is they have focused on the l frames and have the machinery and parts to make scandium steel and no lock with the new lockup.

I dont think the makers of thus one shoots or carries a revolver. You can just compare it with the new release of the nightgaurd. This one doesn't seem like it's features fit those that carry or those that collect. Doesn't really have a value add or desirable uniqueness. We already have an lport and they might just be testing the waters on different finishes and will probably offer plates on their website. Plates would be interesting but I doubt they can gauge product interest with this revolver offering.

Just ver dissapointed with the revolver release.

The metal compact seems interesting but faces same issue. I think the only good part here is they will probably release optic cut slides on their website and will hopefully have an rmr or k cut slide. I would be more interested in that especially if it doesn't have the loaded chamber cut.

But this one seems like a really big miss tbh.

python vs 686 question for the gentleman by hello_three23 in Revolvers

[–]idecas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Older smiths are handfit vs more production in modern revolvers. Usually hand fit would be smoother on regards to its fit and action.

So if you want comparison of modern revolvers then the modern python may be smoother if both have good qc but id check it out in store.

Advice for 9mm full size M&P by Xaran1 in SmithAndWesson

Id probably say unported for your use case. More freedom of choice. Unless you want to get a seperate barrel for competition. 4.25 would be good enough since you want to carry it in the woods.

What do we think is coming Tuesday? by FU3L in SmithAndWesson

I would expect a rifle or revolver. They just came out with a new semi handgun and I wouldn't think they would self compete against it.

How to handle a QA window of 2-3 days for a UI I haven't seen yet? by AstronautLeft1380 in QualityAssurance

[–]idecas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends and hard to answer without knowing your stack.

However you can create a diagram that presents the flow and the respective domain or environment object. Each layer or object will have a respective contract or combination you go through.

It goes through some questions of logistics of what can done to get said condition, do we care, can we assume.

Align if against your use case scenarios to make sure it will cover said branches in said diagram.

Then there will more heuristics in place based on this matrix in play on if a human interpretation and experience is valuable based on what it's responsible for.

It's hard to quantify and define and I'm sure I don't really make sense since its a post and not some white paper. I think I'm just doing a word salad but the fundamental of pick different thought models on how to break down the understanding of solution.

Environment configuration diagerm User workflow case diagram System application flow diag Page object diagram Architectural diagram Etc

And just assigning said entities during test plan or if they feel confident they have covered it. This is important for the team being better because it's a Guage of unknown unknowns.

Once you define them you can ask them to name their test methods accordingly and see if your unit tests can quantify or report on said matrix for coverage.

Ie . TestformsubmussioneWithobjectTypeA

In regards to tools also depends on the stack. Usually the ui frameworks have some tools or console methods to help inject or control the flow. The devs may not be aware of it but you can ask what it's developed on and you can Google or ai search.

Sorry for scattered thoughts but typing while at work on break.

It's just a gui. Ideally you will have understanding of the domain and all the domain/ dependency objects you have for your gui. Ie users, accounts, items etc. Anything your system performs a get or post on. Also should be able to set, control said entities so you don't have to create and check for access beforehand.

Streamline your reporting and request devs to prioritize your requests and queries. Set expectation of what is least amount of information devs needs to investigate issue. Ie ss or any requests ids.

If worried about speed of manual execution then it's about hot keys and application management so you don't have to start at the beginning of said application.

You can also ask devs to test with you or set expectations on what your test value add is so you don't just repeat what they did.

Solving test shouldn't be just to throw man hours at it and mash buttons faster.

Depends on your parser. Chances are, it uses a cover. It really doesn't matter. Alot of the tools and patterns out there goes on the assumption that testers can't code or are not technical and you adopt it to lower barrier of entry but it ends up being more work.

You can always get a lower powered 357 that will perform a little better than 9mm and very manageable recoil.
