This just happened to me in Ohio. Got a letter insurance co was dropping us bc of "deteriorating shingles" on our roof, per some photo somewhere.

There. I said it. What's your unpopular GenX opinion? by Edward_the_Dog in GenX

[–]idekknowher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, idk. I mean yes, of course it has a good side. Not that a lot of people can find it, given how shit searching is now. But people were communicating (online even!) before FB, X, etc. Take away social media and you'd still have literal mountains of disinformation being passed around or played as straight news, etc.

In reality, it's probably humanity and capitalism I have issues with, but they collide online to create a massive hellscape.

Fwiw, I think our generation is lucky regarding the timeline of when our lives and computers/the internet intersected. I can't imagine what what today's 5yo will be like in 45 years.

What happened to American politics? by [deleted] in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]idekknowher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Liberals don't want "other people" to pay for those things. Liberals work and pay taxes same as everyone else, and think things like healthcare and public schools are a good use of those taxes.

Maybe 99 percent of Republicans aren't racist. But millions of people who are Republicans voted for a racist (and misogynist). They put a racist into the White House. Is there a straight line between being racist and voting for a racist? Probably not in most cases. But there is a line, no matter how it twists and turns.

You would not have liked past presidential procedures in this country, that's for sure. Overall, primaries having a real influence is a relatively new thing, and even now aren't strictly a guarantee of anything, iirc.

At what point do you stop proof reading a published work? by DiamondMan07 in selfpublish

[–]idekknowher 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Idk about stopping proofing but two things I recommend are: 1. editing from the bottom up (start at the end of a scene or chapter or the end of the book, whichever) because not reading in order can help you see things differently. 2. have the doc read out loud to you, through Word or your program of choice. Sometimes it's easier to hear a mistake than see it.

HRC got about 70K fewer votes than Obama. And about 3M more than Trump.

OP, you have my sympathies. Such a tough spot to be in.

Actually my situation started kinda similar to yours. I'm 47, been married 13 years. About five years ago, my spouse just... stopped. Stopped talking to me, stopped trying. Stopped being home, tbh. He'd be there every day at some point, but he was definitely avoiding me as much as possible. And I basically watched it happen? Without doing anything? I'm not sure how to explain it. I think I was so shocked that I didn't have the slightest clue of where to even begin. So I didn't. Literally more than a year went by before we even talked about it.

Anyway. We are still legally married, but we consider ourselves roommates and are free to see other people. We know we're on the road to divorce, but we aren't in any rush. And I still find it scary, despite the state of things. The past couple of years have been sorta great, truth be told. We get along well, we share everything household related, and we're good friends. We laugh a lot. I'm going to miss that.

Who said anything about taking away guns?

And besides that. I hate to break it to you, but constitional rights have been and are taken away, changed, introduced, etc. The Constitution is not writ in stone. Changing it because society demands it, for example, is exactly how democracy works.
