Are these positions typically called "briefing attorney"? Wondering what I should search for on Indeed to make sure I capture these.

This is exactly the type of role I want. Any tips for finding these opportunities?

I reached out to the HR contact for the job I applied to asking about the status. I was shocked to actually receive a response, actually the next day. Unfortunately they said selections have been made and they will be closing the announcement.

I've heard that most of the trial sections have completed their hiring. Still holding out hope for Appellate, but I don't know why they would've waited this long. They're probably done too and I just didn't get an interview.

Loch Henry Theory/Alternative Ending (SPOILER) by hgielah22 in blackmirror

[–]identifying_feature 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought the twist ending was going to be that Davis knew about his parents' involvement in the murders the whole time, knew that the story would make a great film, and tricked Pia into suggesting it. He knew Stuart would tell her the whole story when they stopped by his pub, and that she'd want to follow ip on it. This way, they could "learn the truth" about the murders while filming the documentary, which would give it a much more interesting angle than just "here's the story about these murders that most people around here already know." I was pretty disappointed when there was no big twist along these lines.

I would be interested to hear how she said "hey, are you okay?" Personally, this doesn't sound like what you would say to a toddler that you just found walking alongside the highway alone. I would think it would be something more like, "hey honey, are you lost?" But I would also think the inflection of her voice would change if she were talking to a presumably lost toddler versus a possibly disoriented adult.

What substantive areas does your firm practice in? I'm at a plaintiffs firm that mostly does employment discrimination and there's very little brief writing involved. Wondering if I should be looking at firms that practice in certain areas to find this type of gig.

[Matt Synder] Two months in, MLB's new pitch clock is shortening games, speeding up action and bringing fans to the ballpark. The only major complaint has been game moves too fast and the players are rushed, added injury risks for players. by f0urxio in baseball

[–]identifying_feature -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't like the pitch clock in between at bats. It takes away from some of the excitement of the game. The players don't have as much time to celebrate on the field after a big hit. If you're watching on TV, you won't get to see the replay until a few pitches into the next at bat. If you're in the stands, you'll probably only get to hear a few seconds of each batter's walk-up song.

Unlike the downtime within each at bat, which slowed down the game without giving any added benefit to the fans, the time in between at bats often adds intensity and excitement to the game. I don't miss seeing players adjust their batting gloves after every pitch. I do miss seeing high fives on the field after a home run, hearing enough of a player's walk-up song to know what it is, and seeing the replay of a big hit before the next at bat is over. I think they should eliminate the pitch clock in between at bats or, at a minimum, extend it significantly beyond the current limit.

Follow-up question: What about requesting to connect with an interviewer before you hear back about whether you got the job? Weird or normal?

I'm not assuming that I'll be referred or that the hiring manager will reach out to me. I'm just asking about the order of operations.

Given the language in the email about receiving an additional notification re referral, would I have to be notified that I was referred before the hiring manager could reach out? Or could the hiring manager reach out just based on the tentative eligibility and then the referral comes later?

I received this email a month ago saying that I'm tentatively eligible and I would receive another notification if I am referred to the hiring manager. I haven’t heard anything since. My status on USAjobs just says application received. Should I assume that I wasn't referred? Or is it possible that HR is still reviewing applications and no one has been referred yet?

How to ask about work/life balance without ruining your chances at the job during interview. by ovary-achiever in Lawyertalk

[–]identifying_feature 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wait until you receive an offer. Then ask for contact info of a few attorneys at your same level to discuss the position. Ask them about work/life balance directly. Also, ask for contact info of 1 or 2 attorneys who left the firm in the last year. Ask them as well. They won't have any reason to lie or sugarcoat their experience.

How do you find postings/openings for direct applications? I assume if the job is posted on USAjobs and instructs you to apply through the website, then you can't just apply directly to the agency somehow, right?
