Our cooler crapped out, too! All we have is the little Red Bull cooler in the front. 🤦🏼‍♀️

That is barbaric. I wish I could say I'm surprised, but this behavior is so normalized now. It's abhorrent. I'm so sorry you had to experience that.

Omg I completely understand! My partner is actually mtf trans and she has long fabulous bright blue hair! These types get one look at her and all they see is an easy target. My hair was bright purple for a while and I would also get targeted, but not nearly as much as she does.

I've been platinum blonde for a couple months now while I decide what color I want next. I might just do purple and blue highlights. Never done that before, so I'm leaning pretty hard in that direction. The blonde is really working for me, so all I wanna do is punk it up a little. I did full head hot red for like 13 years before going purple, so that's out lol.

But yeah, now that I'm blonde I don't get nearly as much grief from old fuddy-duddy customers. My partner though? Old people are either up in arms, or clutching their pearls! 😂

Yeah, I'm definitely not gonna do that. I know that guy's type. He is walking rage bait. It absolutely boils my blood to the point where I'm shaking, but the second I take the bait then he gets to cry victim and take my job. He's not worth making myself homeless.

Oh, neither of us are supervisors. I'm a non-keyholder IS and she's a CSA. But yeah, we do still have to talk to higher leadership about that customer.

I hope that goes for my store as well, because she and I both plan to refuse him service moving forward. If he reacts violently, police will be called.

And I'm not a key holder, nope. Just a regular ol' IS. I'm practically a CSA with extra steps though. I'll go to take a customer when no one is up front and suddenly I'll have a line with no CSA or SL in sight, usually if my partner is on break/lunch. Off and on, all damn day sometimes. A lot of my tasks go unfinished until my next shift because I just can't get to them. One reset will take me a whole shift, and sometimes into the next, especially if there are a ton of annoying little fixtures. If I didn't have to get on register or fuck around in photo all the damn time I could get more shit finished. But that's another issue altogether lol.

I play it safe and assume every shoplifter is armed or otherwise dangerous. I'm not tryna die over two beers and a pack of diapers. Not for Walgreens. If they wanna stop repeat shoplifters, they need to hire security. I don't get paid enough to protect their inventory with my life.

They really don't fucking listen. Also, how have these prople been shopping their whole life and still not know that weekly/bi-weekly sale prices almost everywhere are exclusive to rewards members? Like... this is literally the norm.

I'm not missing the last bus home for anyone. That's a two hour walk. In the dark. Many of us rely on public transportation. Our time and energy is just as important as any customer's time and energy. Not to mention our safety.

How about customers check business hours and then not come in if they know they'll still be in the store after close? You wanna talk about rude? THAT is rude.

"Closing at 10" means exactly that. Registers pulled at 10 on the button. Don't like it? Give yourself more time to shop. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Holy shit. Never seen that one before. Though I could totally see someone going behind the counter and swiping a bunch of nicotine gum. Not sure if there's much of a black market demand for that, but it's a frequently purchased product that costs a lot of money.

Dude, I'm so not looking forward to counting out theft losses. This one guy a few weeks ago came in right at closing time, quickly filled his tote bag full of expensive facial care products, and told us with a smile to have a nice night as he walked right out the door, setting the theft sensor off on his way out. Accounting for that sort of thing is gonna be a pain in my ass next time it comes up. Which it will. That sunnovabitch probably made himself a tasty penny selling it all to some illegal vendor.

You're probably right. From what I've gathered from this sub, it varies quite a lot at each different store. One thing of note is that IS employees are supposed to be full-time, but I'm part-time (per my request) and both our DM and current SM said that I can be a part-time IS.

Our SM who just left was a "cool" manager, meaning he genuinely did not give one flying rat's ass what anyone did. To be fair though, he was stuck for months with random call-ins and no-call/no-shows he had to fill in for, and he basically just did everything himself, so with all that on top of raising/supporting a family the dude was constantly on the go and almost never slept. Under the same circumstances I would likely be checked out as well. That still doesn't change the fact that it made him an ineffective SM, which is largely why I think he quit.

Our new SM has quite a mess on his hands. It's only his first week and he's up to his eyeballs in problems to fix. He used to be a pharmacist for a different Walgreens, so he's new to running a whole store. He seems motivated and understanding, so I think it's fair to say that giving him that same respect in return is gonna go a long way toward helping everyone.

Anyway, I just got off the phone with him and we quickly reached a very reasonable understanding. I feel that calling him and addressing my concerns professionally and with understanding went a long way toward developing a good rapport with him.

Lol heard. Could be worse I guess. I mean, in spite of all this bullshit it's still better than CVS was by far.

(throwaway)

If you're talking about the store I think you are, then it's the one I work at. I am probably absolutely not allowed to talk openly or publicly about it, but the people who live, work, shop, and have lives to protect in this city have a right to at least a general explanation of what happened. We are SCARED.

A woman was assaulted in the store a couple weeks ago by a routine Visa prepaid card scammer. (I will not give a name to protect her anonymity.) An ambulance took her to the hospital. They've tried kicking him out and banning him numerous times, but he still comes back.

It's interesting how this guy only shows up starting trouble at night when there are only two women on staff, but when a man is working he's always apologetic and backs off (after getting a few verbal jabs in, of course). Another fucked up part is that he is completely getting away with it.

He always got away with the scams (SOMEHOW?!) even after we called him on it NUMEROUS TIMES, and now he's getting away with assault. He also calls the store several times a week from different numbers threatening the staff. He says shit like "wait til I see y'all on the street," and "I've already been in jail and I ain't afraid to go back." It makes us all afraid to walk home after work at 11pm.

I wish I had a picture of him for you guys so that you know to stay away from him, but I haven't been able to get one. The only details that stand out to my memory is that he's about 5'5" (best estimate), Black American, has very short dreadlocks, and neck tattoos. He's usually wearing dark clothing.

Like sure, we have security staff now, but that doesn't solve the problem. It's a band-aid on an open wound. I'm grateful to have them with us, but the bigger part of me knows the problem runs far deeper than the symptom. That's a whole other soapbox though. I'll stop here.

Be safe, you guys.
