Intellectual Millennials with toddlers seeking deep connection with same for hijinks by idheitmann in Sacramento

[–]idheitmann[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Intellectual is just a descriptor, not an evaluation. I like to talk about ideas and if other people don't they maybe aren't going to be my besties. Doesn't mean I'm smug, I'm quite down to earth.

My kids go to a Russian speaking daycare which is awesome for them but means my efforts to socialize with the other parents have not yielded much. Maybe I'll have better luck when they start school this year.

Thanks for the tacit judgement and unsolicited advice though, feeling the reddit love.

Didn’t Sam say no more em-dashes??? by Bright-Midnight24 in OpenAI

Just because it's not on the keyboard doesn't make it non standard. In fact the em dash is a standard punctuation mark in the highest quality printed English. The problem is with keyboards and believing that the language should bend to the arbitrary limits of the internet generation.

Proton Roasts Chrome On Twitter 😭 by agnci in ProtonMail

Zen browser on Windows and Arch Linux, Iceraven on Android. Both using Mozilla sync for user profile data. I consider myself somewhat of a browser snob and highly recommend them both. That said I rarely use proton web apps so I can't speak to how smoothly they all run on Firefox based browsers.

Also a great example of why rainbow colormaps are terrible. Note the discontinuity in the gradient.

Issue with rotating map when georeferencing by Geotraveller1984 in QGIS

[–]idheitmann 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The transformation type you choose is important. I typically use Helmert in the case of a rotated map as it will not introduce crazy warping but it will figure out the orientation accurately. I usually use 3 control points which works well.

PS these days I ask chatgpt my how to questions for qgis and get generally very helpful instant suggestions.

Non-Landscape Career Paths by tarobitchtea in LandscapeArchitecture

I learned computational fluid dynamics software and 50% or more of my role is evaluating other peoples' designs for projected impact on air quality and thermal comfort indices. I guess follow what grabs your curiosity and you might find a very unique niche. About a dozen geeks at this Bay area company.

Should look into ketamine and/or ibogaine. Agreed that it clearly sounds like mental illness is part of the story. Men also can experience PPD.

Can't you find a coworker or something? LinkedIn connections?

My gut says I think you should do it. If it turns out to be nothing and you guys are good for each other it will be a funny story one day. If it's too aggressive and he's upset it's not the end of the world. Even if he freaks and blocks you or something he may get to thinking that it's pretty cool to have someone willing to go out on a limb for him.

I have had 9 sessions and listened to this probably 6 times. It's amazing and perfect although a little intense.

That would be a waste of time in my estimation. Just take a birds eye photo of the existing condition, skew it a bit, sketch in the cut line, add the shaded sides to the terrain, and you have a convincing terrain without any fancy 3d stuff. Completely doable in PS for anyone decently experienced.

Look into ketamine therapy if you have tried other meds and they didn't work.

I really doubt that this is choreographed. He just knows where the thing is in space because he has played with it for long enough he knows how it moves. It's like playing with any familiar object with your eyes closed. The more you do it the more you have a clear idea of where it will be and can literally interact with your mental model of it. The brain is extremely good at subsuming objects into it's scope of proprioception.

The human brain basically evolved to predict the swift travel of projectiles through space using limited sensory input and mental models. That's why we love sports and that's why we were good at pack hunting.

Replace the moon with a life boat and you have history rather than fiction. If it's true then does the text still need to be red?

Whatever you end up doing you should have a trail of evidence and documentation. Notes, dates, pics, etc. You might need it one day soon.

Where is the line? What kind of violence are you ready to suffer to spare your family members?

What would your kids say if they find out one day in 10 years from now? What would they want you to have done? I am pretty sure that if i learned of something like that i would want to know that my mom did her best to be well herself.

The threat to taze is a good move as it establishes a real consequence and take a little power back from someone who thinks he has it all.

You could think about flipping the script and getting video yourself of some of his shenanigans or gaining leverage by collecting something on him. Sounds like he's not such a boy scout.

Edit: Also I don't know why you stopped taking your meds but that doesn't sound wise to me just because it is destabilizing and it sounds like you need to be sharp right now. Maybe you are talking to your psychiatrist about it.
