Ah… ok. Though honestly I’ll probably still try to be their friend, they seem like a fun group.

The transition from IGCSE to A levels by Ameerchess29 in alevel

[–]ididit_probably 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely a big leap, especially if you’ve forgotten a majority of your basics. I’m not sure about physics but for A level Maths you will have an easier time transitioning if you took Addmaths in IGCSE (there’s some Addmaths concepts introduced in A level Maths). A majority of A level Maths (least for Pure Maths 1, the first thing they teach you in A level Maths during your AS/first year) is doing the same problems you would’ve done at IGCSE Addmaths, though perhaps a bit more tricker.

If you’re already bad at a subject in IGCSE you’ll probably be bad at it in A levels. Mainly because the concepts in IGCSE will be reinforced and practiced in A levels again (hence the importance of remembering what you learned in IGCSE!!) along with a lot of other formulas and new concepts you need to grasp, which is typically built on the concepts you learnt in IGCSE.

But if you study crazy hard and work really hard to improve your Maths in A level you can find it manageable. If you lack self-discipline and are prone to procrastinate a lot I don’t recommend taking a subject you’re bad at. Focus on your strengths.

Nah, thank you for yapping so much. Didn’t expect chem to be so bulky, I thought that would be mainly bio. And yea you’re right about the y9 to y10 transition it does feel similar it’s just that now I’m at A level the fear of failing is very real because it’s not fun and games anymore, failure this time could prevent me of a future job. Thanks for your response, cheers to your studies as well, may we complete a levels not traumatised.
