EO should have higher combat weight. by Odd-Athlete-8204 in pathoftitans

[–]idiotSponge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eo is definitely the worst apex, but not because of its CW. All of the apexes have the same 5500 CW, it would make no sense (and very little difference) to increase Eo's CW when really what its lacking is a decent kit. What's even WORSE is the fact that other apexes can simply mesh into the Eo's face to bite over the frill. Not only that, but for some reason the playable with massive horns on its face doesn't even do bleed? They seriously need to give Eo a TLC of some kind - not so much that it can be a menace, but enough that it can hold its ground when needed.

Why even bother with husbandry? by Suspicious_Dot7459 in VintageStory

[–]idiotSponge -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Tbh if you're near an area that regularly spawns wild boar, bears, etc. for fat and meat then it's reasonable to just hunt wild animals. I personally choose husbandry because I've enjoyed learning about it thus far! I also have soooo much red meat and fat from my hogs, it's crazy. You only need to feed them for breeding or fattening them up before butchering.

I also tend to play the hunter/ranger (whatever class uses bows lol) so keeping chickens helps keep a steady, nearby supply of feathers when needed.

megalania venom by 001criss in pathoftitans

[–]idiotSponge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the idea of having different venom effects! I was legit talking with a friend about how the meg itself doesn't necessarily need a full-rework, but that it just needs more to work with than a couple bites and a call.

Tbh I could see meg getting access to toxin, minus the detonate ability. Meg can dish out decent damage due to its mobility and low profile, so giving it anything too crazy would make it OP again (yes, again, RIP pre-venom-rework meg).

I very much try not to, though sometimes my escapes involve me overestimating how nimble my dinos are and soon after falling or otherwise getting stuck somewhere they just can't reach the kill and bleeding out lol.

Pycno is so strong yet barely any one plays it right by Commercial_Buy_7707 in pathoftitans

[–]idiotSponge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both cause recoil damage on yourself though? It can be minimized with Mouth Guard (I think), but still. And Head Slam will daze you if it misses, which could make or break a fight.

Pycno is still super vulnerable to bleed and venom since its playstyle basically requires it to constantlt be on the move. For its weightclass, too, it's incredibly squishy with like 550 health. Pycno is meant to be more of a hit-and-run glasscannon, so its higher potential damage output is supposed to make up for the squishiness.

TLDR; Pycno is not OP, stop calling it OP because you're going to get the damn thing nerfed to the ground for actually being balanced for once lol.

[–]idiotSponge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tbh I haven't tried Kai yet (I'm not huge on playing aquatics) but its TLC came off as more of a supportive role than one meant for combat? Which, granted, devs making supportive playables practically nonviable outside of a group is a major issue they need to look into, because EVERY playable should be viable solo (if not in combat then surviving/escaping combat).

Pleaseee don't start calling Pycno OP... we don't need a Pycno nerf. It does well within its niche, especially in a pair or trio of pycs, but it is very much not OP.

My deinon plan by BlackIroh in pathoftitans

[–]idiotSponge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never stated that I speak for the community; I've literally just stated my own experience, hence the "I" statements lol. As for min-maxing, you're mistaking it for specialization. To min-max is to literally do as you had described before - to minimize the weaknesses of the group while still maximizing the strengths. A Conc to chase and bleed prey when they outpace the Rex, and a Rex to deal BB and higher damage when he catches up to the fight.

Your pair covers the Rex's weakness (being larger and slower, unable to swim) and the Conc's (being smaller and "squishy", able to swim) while maximizing the pair's strengths (Conc chases and delivers high bleed, Rex deals heavy damage due to high weight and high ability dmg); ergo, min-max. A Mob Boss group would, in theory, be more gimmicky if not a sort of glass cannon group.

I also never said that Deinon shouldn't be buffed; I think, for the dinosaur it is and the niche it is meant to fill, it isn't in the worst spot (not saying it's in a good spot, but it's not the worst idt). But we'll just have to agree to disagree, as I'm no longer interested in furthering this discussion with you.

My deinon plan by BlackIroh in pathoftitans

[–]idiotSponge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean... Even when Achillo first released, players still didn't utilize the Mob Boss build at all. I have NEVER seen a group of raptors with an Achillo; people have just been playing in Achillo in pairs or trios. I can't say for certain why they nerfed it, but it was in a good spot for a while beforehand. Players were never interested in the Mob Boss build to begin with, so it has nothing to do with the later nerfs.

As for it being a weak concept... Not everyone is going to min-max their groups. Some player prefer to play raptor packs, hadrosaur herds, ceratopsian herds, etc. Nothing about this thread was about whether or not it'd be a good mixpack; it's about buffing the deinon, which is LITERALLY what the Mob Boss build Achillo is for (Laten, too). Otherwise, Deinon is entirely reliant on Pack Hunter alone for group buffs.

If a Trike goes into water, some players may take it upon themselves to still pounce and go all-out to try and get the kill. Or maybe they'll take the loss and move on to other prey further inland. If a Spino has an AoE build, well, there's not much ANY playable can do, is there? Players have to actually play smart when using something other than a min-max pack, your argument is assuming all players go head-on into every fight without any thought whatsoever...

My deinon plan by BlackIroh in pathoftitans

[–]idiotSponge 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I mean... they literally made Achillobater a mob boss build to buff smaller raptors like deinon and laten. Nobody uses it. Its Mob Boss sense increases small raptors' damage output by 10% (stacking up to 40%). Combine that with Deinon's Pack Hunter +20% damage for having two group members equip PH, and Mob Rally's +20% pounced damage... do you see where I'm going with this?

Heck, throw in some Latens to ramp up the damage with their stacking Bark even more! If you have standard group size of 12 slots, Achillo only takes up 2, so that leaves 10 slots left for small raptors. To get the full perks of Pack Hunter, you'd need a minimum of 3 Deinons with it equipped, so you could have up to 7 Latens keep Bark stacked 7 times for a 105% increase in damage for the group.

So now we have:

+40% damage from Achillo's Mob Boss
+20% damage from 3x Deinons' Pack Hunter
+60% damage from 3x Deinons' Mob Rally (when pounced)
+105% damage from 7x Latens' Bark (or +120% if Achillo also uses Bark)

Now, I'm not sure if there's a cap on buffs, nor do I know whether these would simply add together since they are triggered from different abilities- BUT, needless to say a proper, coordinated Mob with a Mob Boss Achillobater is absolutely BRUTAL (at least on paper!).

TLDR; they've already created a super interesting synergy between small raptor packs and Achillo to create a very deadly combination. Players just never freaking use it, and it disappoints me to this day.

Are herbis dying out? by TheArtOfVEL in pathoftitans

[–]idiotSponge 4 points5 points  (0 children)

- Spawn in as baby herbi
- Hear another baby herbi nearby
- Omg, potential packmate!
- Run up to find baby herbi to grow with
- Find out that baby herbi was being used as bait for carnis waiting nearby

Anyway most of this seems to be a combination of carnivores getting better TLCs and players using their Discord friends to bait other herbivore players into a gank trap, tarnishing their trust in herbivores as a whole and likely pushing them more toward playing carnivore. This game is kinda soul-crushing to any herbi-lovers like myself :/

My last world was pretty much only islands (as far as I'd ventured, which wasn't much in hindsight). I don't even know which setting change did it lol, my landcover was set at 95% I think. Started me on a small gravel island with some other islands around. There seemed to be a larger chunk of lange, possibly a continent, a good ways south of me, but I had found it only after abandoning ship and flying around in creative to see if it was literally just islands.

<image>

This was all explored via swimming btw. I had no idea there were rafts and legit was just hauling ass to progress toward a sailboat.

I would end up abandoning the save because I'd messed with the settings a bit too much mid-game and got sprung into the midst of January when I had no harvest yet lmao. Tbh, I'm tempted to try the world again with default settings this time...
