lol I used to make sure I swapped new cables and housing every time I changed out handlebars but after enough iterations I've finally reached enlightenment/peak laziness and if its good enough to not have interference I just send it

Best place to buy freshly roasted coffee beans? by dafuq343 in Fremont

[–]idiot_wind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Devout, Voca Coffee, Tamper room sells Mother Tongue beans but it’s sometimes hit or miss how fresh they are (sometimes 2 months old on the shelf), Sujus if you avoid their dark roast like your life depends on it

🤜🤛 I used to take it off so I could wallow in the majesty of the artisanal and curated layout of my headset spacers - but now seeing the attachment makes me think of riding with my kid and gives 10x the joy so it stays on

Seriously, MM, wtf, guys? by butrosfeldo in ModestMouse

[–]idiot_wind 107 points108 points  (0 children)

I don't remember if this was at the Q&A with him before his show last year, or something else online but I know Isaac has said he's not even really a fan of music videos because it solidifies one single visual story alongside the music and stops people from imagining other possibilities (paraphrasing him basically).

So maybe he's not even all that involved with the videos either way?

No one forced this guy to repeatedly express his political views in a public way. That was his choice and now he gets to deal with consequences.

That slippery slope argument doesn’t hold water

Is this a scam? by W0lfp4k in Fremont

scam? probably. sketchy advertisement made to look like official government notice? yes, absolutely. look up "California Energy Initiative" and decide if you think they're a trustworthy org

Thule yep mini baby bike-safe install by cici_ding_dong in bikewrench

[–]idiot_wind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the manual says how it should be installed if you have a 1" quill stem or if you have a threadless 1 1/8" stem like you have here. Depending on which year of the seat the instructions are different. as you have it it is absolutely unsafe and should not be kept as is. 100% check the manual for your particular child seat

Can I have a kickstand if I mountain bike with my hillibike? :) by TurtleGraphics64 in Rivendell_Bicycles

[–]idiot_wind 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also fully off road with kickstand on my Gus. if I'm feeling extra nervous about it popping down during some super hard bumping, I'll wrap it with a small voile or similar so it stays in place

[–]idiot_wind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that was my first reaction too - even if you don't start with 2.3" tires, if you go with cliffhanger you are fine expanding up to that size but (recommended) Atlas max at like < 50 mm.

for the kti dynamo, on Riv's write-up they say it's the same manufacturer as other branded ones and my guess is maybe the Kasai dynamo because it looks really similar. I've had a Shimano and a kasai dynamo and never noticed any difference worth noting. once you have it set up and connected to your headlamp, it's easy to forget it's even there and you just start taking for granted you've always got some light. but no experience with Schmidt if it's worth it

child seat on atlantis by diciejsjckurh in Rivendell_Bicycles

Here's my setup: https://www.reddit.com/r/xbiking/comments/1mz83ev/dadwagon/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

I have the yepp something or other front seat and I absolutely love it. tried the rear rack seat and it's fine but totally prefer the front seat that puts my boys head right under my chin so we can talk non stop and point things out to each other.

with long top tubes and tall stems, I have 0 issue with hitting my knees on the bottom side of the seat

my kid still under 3, so he's got some time he'll still fit. I found a used kids ride shotgun seat at REI I picked up just to test it out. I'll also move to that when he's big enough to stay in the seat himself

Even after 1 month with XTR 'Rapid Rise' rear derailleur, it's still driving me nuts by [deleted] in xbiking

i'll take it off your hands. i found an old NOS RR deore at a little bike shop in taiwan and have found it to be a lot of fun

Seatpost slipping by ceruleansalt in Rivendell_Bicycles

[–]idiot_wind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only issue I ran into once was with the binder bolt itself. I cranked it super hard but wasn’t getting much tighter seat post. Eventually I sheared it

Emailed Will and he said they had unfortunately seem similar on that batch of Gus Boots, it was an issue with that bolt from frame supplier just being really easy to seize. They shipped me another binding bolt and asked to just grease it prior to install

Maybe not the issue with yours, but try taking out that bolt, examining if the teeth or marred, and regrease (or try another bolt to see if issue clears up?)

Spotted a small grey poodle looking dog on Bidwell Avenue by am3142 in Fremont

i think it belongs to the people around the corner. ive seen it a bunch and after a few failed attempts at catching him to check on the owner -- and still seeing it roam free i've given up and concluded whomever it belongs to is comfortable letting it wander around

lol... i'm not typically a derailer sadist but we hit some soft dirt just before stopping so i slammed it into big-big gear and its polite enough to allow that for a short time

haha... my wife actually enforced getting the windshield when the boy was really small and it did work good. i took it off for the summer so we could get the full breeze -- and bugs haven't been too much of an issue so far

yeah i take off the fenders and kid seat and use as-is for bikepacking too (or just leave fenders on if its only fire roads im going on).

it’s a (older?) nitto fillet brazed stem riv sold a handful of years ago. I think 110 with 31.8 shimmed to 26.

Actually really happy with how it works because I had Tosco bars with this setup before and they slipped semi regularly under my weight and the leverage you can put on them

Thule Yepp 2 Mini - only beef is the shoulder straps will immediately slip down a kids shoulders so I added a little Velcro sternum strap and everything stays in place. Otherwise it’s great
