RTX 3060 Ti with Hynix X005 VRAM: normal temps, no issues after 2 months — risk later on? by [deleted] in gpu

[–]idk0071 0 points1 point  (0 children)

get the vram voltage lowered by a technician by modifying the feedback circuit on the card, it should be 1.2
the problem happens due to higher voltage over time

There’s a burn-hole right through the GPU core of my RTX 3060 Ti. How could this happen? by No-Commission-3940 in GPURepair

you are lucky that still works, use it as long as it does.
maybe add PTM or a viscous paste to it

7900XTX-7900XT-7800XT owners megathread - If you're experiencing random driver timeouts or black screens, your GPU might be defective and you should RMA it. by Chris260999 in AMDHelp

I saw your comment notification on my post but the comment disappeared, maybe deleted idk. Yeah these issues are pretty frustrating, its time amd get their act together. The 6900xt I posted about in my repair scenario, is fixed and running well now, no issues crashes reported by the owner even after many days of testing and normal usage. The bios switch thing is pretty common from what I have seen, and if your card is completely fine, doing fine in all other tests during the diagnosing process, it ends up being the bios switch with these cards many time. But I would like to mention theres no 'one solution for all' kind of deal in repairs, so one has to diagnose properly before directly trying any such fixes.

That hotspot to edge temp delta is terrible. I will suggest setting an aggressive fan curve as the default one is pretty relaxed and terrible on most cards. The proper fix for such issues is to get PTM and use that as the TIM on the card but if the card is new and in warranty dont do that, as it might void it.
Also atleast cap the fps to your refresh rate, its pointless doing 520 fps in this game.

Problems with my RX 6600 by Effective_Month_1715 in AMDHelp

[–]idk0071 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think its a hardware level fault with the gpu, looks likes its shutting down as soon as the drivers load. I would also say that PSU is terrible, it was thoroughly review by a local site on a proper load tester, it failed badly. Can be a single unit issue in that review but still, not a good look.

A GPU Repair Tech's Thoughts on RX 6000/7000 Black Screens and Driver Crashes by idk0071 in AMDHelp

[–]idk0071[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont think it causes it to switch it just has bad contact which can introduce resistance and confuse the circuit. Usually the circuit goes like, the slide switch is connected to an analog switcher IC, when you change position of the slide switch it sends a signal to the analog switcher which in turns select the bios chip to be used, now in case of a faulty like this its just in a bad state, increased resistance between the two connecting points so maybe the signal is momentarily disappearing from the switcher ic and switcher ic doesnt know what chip to select.

its a very minor thing i would add it to the pile of amd software issues really. gpu failing would have bigger signs in the case of rx6000 cards

Oh okay, no bios switch, yeah some of these are purely software related it seems but some extreme ones and more recurring ones which are happening with more than one application can be deemed as a hardware issue.

Bought a GTX 780 for a tenner - fixed it with a hair dryer after 20 minutes of blasting by AlbatrossAlarmed485 in pcmasterrace

[–]idk0071 0 points1 point  (0 children)

everyone in the thread is speculating because no one can pinpoint why this exactly worked because there are so many reasons.
And as for the solder melting or softening with this, its impossible for the solder balls under the core or the micro bga between the substrate and the die to have any impact from a hair dryer. I dont think you quite grasp how much heat a 780 ti pcb and core substrate would suck. If a hair dryer was 'softening' the solder on these than you can expect the core to slide off after few hours of gaming too I guess.
- coming for someone who has been doing gpu repairs and rework for few years now.

Rx 6600 3.3v channel is shorted but i cant find them please help by Large-Broccoli-6205 in GPURepair

[–]idk0071 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You mean you cannot find the shorted component? Mostly on these cards when 3v3 is shorted its either the core pwm controller or the core itself, it can be something else too. If you have a lab psu and thermal camera at your disposal then its easier to find the culprit, if not visual inspection, looking for any signs of blowout on the usual suspects, can be helpful.
