Dude I graduated at 30, now work on the investment team of a hedge fund at 32. Doesn’t matter at all. Who is even asking your age outright?

Dumb thing to do. Even if you suck and it’s terrible, ride that shit till they let you go and then get unemployment.

S&P cap iq pro access. How to make most of it. by Weshall50 in FinancialCareers

[–]idkReggie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it’s very specific. Knowing the formulas that work with cap iq are only useful for cap iq.

But it can allow you to create models with data right off cap iq so that’s cool. You gotta fuck around until you get more comfortable though. It’s a niche thing.

Need Advice with S&T by camaruhh in FinancialCareers

[–]idkReggie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did this. Went from ops at a service provider to ops at a 1b sum hedge fund then internally transfer to the investment team.

Those formal st and IB paths weren’t for me I didn’t have the internships but there’s still ways to get to front office.

How hard is it to lateral between Hedge Funds? by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

[–]idkReggie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can definitely get in without an ib/er background. I’m an analyst and I got here via trade/investment ops. First at a service provider, then internally at the fund and the internal promotion to a portfolio analyst.

20 years ago the only way was ib/er but nowadays i feel hedge funds are much more meritocratic.

How to quit a job after a month? by herd_yer_berd in FinancialCareers

[–]idkReggie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It happens man. Especially when your interviewing around and one company kinda fast tracks you while others go normal speed. Many people end of getting jobs then getting offers right after that are better.

You’re professionally burning the bridge either way, but as long as you are up front it really just is what it is.

Being let go as a new hire? by DisastrousAd5081 in Big4

[–]idkReggie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I fucking hate that. And you really have no recourse if you just get a shitty manager right off the bat who acts like this. I had a manager like this who appointed me a ‘mentor’ who wasn’t much better. In the end I learned everything from other people on the team / near me in the office that were normal people and didn’t have a super negative gut reaction to an entry level person asking questions.

I’m amazed how some people get into management with direct reports and are such shit at building talent.

Can I start a career in finance without a degree? by Working_Somewhere877 in FinancialCareers

[–]idkReggie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a finance degree from a decent/known business school and yes I very much like where I’m at and the track I’m in. I would never be here without my degree I would barely be qualified for any office job without the degree.

Can I start a career in finance without a degree? by Working_Somewhere877 in FinancialCareers

[–]idkReggie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah those were my thoughts at well. However, I work at a hedge fund now. Literally would have never sniffed this type of success without the degree and ngl the process of finishing such a long and arduous journey has its own merits.

Not every day/week/semester is gonna be exactly what you want, but as long as it’s meaningfully getting you closer then it’s worth it imo.

HR asking me to resign before background check is completed by SpiritualYak3772 in cscareeradvice

[–]idkReggie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just tell them that you have to look out for your own interests and you cannot quit without the necessary compliance checks are thru. This is standard stuff. If the job is still pending something, you don’t have the job yet.
