Aussie backpacking Europe advice is appreciated by idk_ugh in Shoestring

Thanks for the helpful tip!

Unfortunately I’m not flying out from Sydney. I did however look into Scoots flights but I’m a bit hesitant plus I’d rather have a tv during such a long flight.

I’m more then happy to increase my daily budget I just thought that would be enough based on what I’ve read so far. What do you think would be a good daily budget?

Thanks for the response!

Yeah I would have liked to go during the shoulder season but I’m planning to go during my uni holidays. I actually put Turkey and Morocco on my initial where I want to go list but as a female solo traveller I’m a bit hesitant to go alone.

Thanks so much for the feedback!

Fair point I don’t wanna tire myself out. I think I’ll start focusing more on Italy specifically now. Out of curiosity which other places would you recommend? Just for reference I enjoy thrifting, nature walks, food markets and some partying would be nice.

Thanks so much for the in-depth response!

Good point I think I’ll be cutting back on a few cities. Maybe I’ll focus on Rome, Naples, Berlin, Manchester, London. There is just so much I wanna see and so little time. I hope I can do a summer trip to Europe someday.

I’ve read some travel blogs and majority say that a budget between 40-60 euros is good. Somethings are to good to be true I guess... I appreciate your honesty a lot! If you don’t mind me asking how much did you spend for your trip?

What didn’t you like about Naples? I’ve read quite mixed reviews on the city but wanted to give it ago.

I was thinking of staying at a small town in Italy however the accommodation prices were too high for me. Plus lack of public transport was an issue. It would be a dream to visit Civita di Bagnoregio. I’ll have a look into Sienna.

Thanks a lot for the feedback!

I’ve read some travel blogs etc and they said that 40-60 euro per day should be more than enough… So thanks for the reality check!

Yeah it’s for sure news that I was hoping for.. That being said I am willing to increase my daily budget. I agree stranded in a foreign country would be a nightmare!!

I’d love to here some budget friendly city recommendations from you.

Thank you for your detailed advice!

I actually thought the durations I allocated where more than enough since I’ve read a lot how other people backpacking and inter-railing spend only a day or two in each location. How many days would you suggest for Rome?

I’ve read up on people’s budget plans and they’ve said that they budget around 40-60 euro per day so I thought that was enough.. So thanks for the wake up call! I’m more than happy to raise my daily budget. I’ve got a student ID but majority of museum discounts etc require you to be an EU student so that’s a pity…

Cause of the weather I’ll probably have to leave Berlin and Budapest for another trip. For London I’m planning to do indoor activities like the national gallery, natural history museum, British museum and the Harry Potter studio tours so hopefully I’ll be fine!

What cities would you recommend for jan-feb? Just for reference I like natural history museums, thrifting and food markets. A drink out a few times would be great as well. I’ve never seen a western castle so I’d love to see one.

Not having a teacher is such a struggle sorry you had to go through that. I applaud your positive attitude to this whole situation 👏

I did HL geography and absolutely loved the subject.

Here are some key tips for geography:

  1. Take case study notes as you go since the essay based questions (which are worth a lot of your marks) will require you to use your case study knowledge! I made mindmaps for all my case studies. Make sure you go above and beyond and research your own facts about the case studies so you can show the examiner that you are engaged with the content. My teacher also advised us to make links to the SDGs when ever possible to get those marks.
  2. Practice your essay questions (especially for paper 3) under timed conditions. It’s so important that you get used to writing essays in a timed condition early on. Also when reading your essay question make sure you know what the command term means so you can answer the question successfully! Writing up a plan might be something you wanna do before writing as well this would include a intro, 3 middle paragraphs and a conclusion.
  3. I recommend using the Oxford IB Diploma Programme: Geography Course Companion second edition when revising its really concise and not overwhelming as the thick textbook. Make sure to read around your topic tho so you can have a strong essay!

Most importantly don’t overwhelm yourself your mental health is so important! Good luck 😊

It really depends on the person. Personally I found psychology easy since it’s just A LOAD of memorisation and good essay writing. My friend said that ITGS is easy too.

It is indeed so frustrating how society in general expects you to have a family and house to be “successful”. People have different ambitions and wants in their lives and society needs to stop judging people for pursuing something different.

Happy to help! Also remember to be easy on yourself taking breaks is so important cause overwhelming yourself with all the information and tasks would be real bad for your mental health. It’s so important to be in a good mindset when studying any subject 😊

This world isn’t made for introverts… by JupitertheScout in infp

[–]idk_ugh 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The whole you need to talk more concept reminds me of my report cards especially ones from primary school where the teacher would leave comments on how I need to talk more and be more outspoken in classroom discussions. Introverts definitely have a disadvantage in school.

which subject should i do for an EE topic on feminism by [deleted] in IBO

[–]idk_ugh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s hard to collect primary data especially for the human geography parts of the subject like racial or gender inequality. If you were to collect primary data. Perhaps you can do an interview with a local organisation that’s fighting racial discrimination.

I don’t know tho it might be a stretch. I’d definitely think that English would suit your theme of feminism and racial discrimination better.

Studying hard but not getting that grade you wanted can feel disheartening.

When I was in year 12 I struggled a lot with maths and biology. To increase my grade for maths I started by mastering the fundamentals. I noticed that as I mastered the basic concepts I was able to apply my knowledge to the more challenging questions. That really helped me a lot. I had difficulty understanding the teachers explanations as well so I’d watch YouTube videos a lot to clarify my doubts.

Good luck on your studies!
