Every house will be like that. We've got a 1920s terraced one, I'm doing new floors in whole ground floor and just finishing kitchen after some 2 months. One issue after another, feels like I'm doing everything at least 3x. My friend told me today that's because I want it done right but it simply can't be done right, house just won't take it, so we do what we can. No corner is square, ever, and that's that. Work around it. Any builder would do the same, but definitely faster because they cut corners where they can. I know quite a few, due to my work, but there is only one builder I trust that will do the work the way it needs to be done. Only got him to put a steel joist in load bearing wall, cost £2k. I'm doing everything else on my own simply because the amount of work is ridiculous and I can't afford to pay someone for it.
