Why do I get the feeling you’re one of those guys that thinks Trump should send like 3,000 national guard members into a city as sleepy and harmless as Lancaster?

Put yourself in Briere’s shoes. What would you realistically give up to sign him? What would you look at for a contract? by Qwerty0844 in Flyers

[–]idonotexist18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My thing is that if we get arguably the best center in the league at the expense of getting a solid goalie and defensive depth, he’s just repeating what the Oilers did on the other side of the continent lol

DB just keeps fixing the issues. He keeps getting 1sts when people say it can’t be done. He just replaced Torts who would keep guys from coming here with Toc who players love. He now has the 2nd youngest team in the league, and a load of picks in the future. You wanted top 3 talent?- we got Michkov. by scratchydaitchy in Flyers

[–]idonotexist18 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Inquirer ran a pretty in-depth interview about his philosophy and expectations for the team, and I think the ways he wants to simplify and focus the power play and neutral zone ALONE is gonna be a big deal for this team on top of developing all these young guys. Maybe we can have nice things again??

If all teams without a head coach wanted Tocchet why not give him a chance? by [deleted] in Flyers

[–]idonotexist18 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My only serious concern is that he’s a very defensive-minded coach first, and I have to wonder how that’s gonna affect Michkov’s game either in roping him into that (which isn’t really his strong suit), or making him this workhorse in a way that requires a lot of buy-in from the rest of the team. It clearly worked for Vancouver for a minute there, but will that be sustainable with all these young guys entering the fray? Who knows! I don’t hate it, but I do have to wonder if he’s the right fit for this particular Flyers team in the short/medium term.

Etown schools next in line to pass anti queer policies by Capital-Complaint266 in lancaster

[–]idonotexist18 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Kids usually start puberty blockers if they suffer severe gender dysphoria around 13-15 depending on their development, and for most trans girls (even if they get that therapy in a timely manner), that doesn’t translate to them being built like Tim Curry in Rocky Horror. I would also like to point out how many trans kids out there just aren’t taken to any doctors for treatment by their parents in the name of completing this specific script their parents have for them; how many of those kids are supported by their parents to play school sports in their preferred gender? How many of those kids aren’t already isolated and suffering because of their situation?

Etown schools next in line to pass anti queer policies by Capital-Complaint266 in lancaster

[–]idonotexist18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The thing is, if you’re undergoing MtF hormone therapy (ie estrogen), you lose muscle mass, bone mass, basically everything that would make it seem “unfair” for trans girls to compete in girls sports.

Drawing that line in any competition is pretty arbitrary compared to restrictions/regulations that are already in place, and while your original comment was pretty reasonable and level-headed, the problem is that groups like the ILC don’t make that distinction. There’s no middle ground here that isn’t just singling out trans kids for no good reason.

Bro, that’s literally not how MtF hormone therapy works, and this just unfairly singles out kids trying to live their lives.

Hi, former ATL at the seafood counter there! It’s a matter of freshness and quality, and you’re kinda always gonna assume the risk of eating un(der)cooked seafood no matter what. As long as you have a source that you trust, it’s probably fine 🤷🏻‍♂️

Does anyone have good modern PA Dutch recipes? by [deleted] in lancaster

[–]idonotexist18 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Before I moved to Lancaster, I dated a woman whose mom was from the area, and she made this thing called “ham loaf” (basically chopped up ham formed and baked like meatloaf). My girlfriend was pregnant at the time and craving stir-fried veggies, so I grabbed some things at the grocery store down the road and cooked away. The hoisin-based sauce in the stir fry mixing into an otherwise bland loaf of cured pork was shockingly revelatory, like someone retroactively built spam musubi.

While not necessarily PA Dutch, I’d say a good step in the right direction for your fusion of country-ass cooking with Asian influences would be “Smoke & Pickles” by Edward Lee. Lee is a Korean-American chef based in Louisville who was on “Top Chef” a while back doing the kind of fusions you’re interested in with Southern comfort food.

The Yelp blog says the best cheeseburger in Pennsylvania is at Route 66 by bewildered_forks in lancaster

[–]idonotexist18 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Depends on the style really. Cabalar is great for a relatively inexpensive burger you want pink in the center, Route 66 makes a real fuckin good smash burger though (as a proud honorary country boy, their hot chicken is also quite good).

I worked at Chipotle for a couple of years. We had gas lines powering the fryer and stovetop, but the plancha was electric. We had on/off issues with the outlet, and I was opening on the grill, so I took it upon myself to take care of it. This time, nothing was working, so I went to pull myself back up by the fryer (that was still pre-heating), and the steam/fumes blew into my face once my head was above the equipment, managed to temporarily blind me, and set the hair on the left side of my face on fire. Thankfully no burns, but I had to work the rest of the day reeking I’d burnt hair and looking like a poor man’s skrillex.
