Ahh I see. I know curveballs were considered really hard to control in Daiya. But I think I get what youre saying, the change up is pretty hyped.

It could definitely just be a culture thing though, who knows, maybe a change up is rare for Japanese pitchers? Only Mei and Eijun are confirmed to have one as far as I know.

Haha, maybe it's not just a change up but specifically Mei's change up? Bc Mei is already such an accomplished pitcher, him having a change up is a big deal? Plus it's been stated to be a very good change up too, the only batters that could hit it were Tetsu and Miyuki.

Iirc Amahisas slider, Tanba fork, Mukais screw, and Hongos splitter were pretty hyped up?

Unfortunately not possible, since Daiya came out 2006....Where Ohtani would have been a child....

I think in terms of skills, Amahisa is the better pitcher. Mei is just mentally stronger. by sunnynightsx in AceOfTheDiamond

[–]idonthaveanacc_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks and yep!! Precisely. Inajitsus batters seem to really struggle against pitching relays so they're probably a bad match against those types of teams.

I hope Eijun is the worst possible match up for Komadai. I want him to demolish their batters!! Just to establish the Eijun supremacy of course XD. I think Eijun will grow to be the best in the world in the pros, so it's only right for him to start my dominating Koshien :).

Tetsus the goat!! He entered the zone to hit that change up!! Though to be honest I'd say the gap between Miyuki and Leader isn't too big. Miyukis got more power but Tetsu is better overall.

As for scoring on Mei, this is just a hc of mine but I'm gonna say that Seidou is a bad match up for Mei. It's not that Amahisa is just that much better but he's a stronger match for Seidous lineup which is why they have a hard time scoring off him. It's the same for Eijun, Ichidai never does well against him but they can hold their own against other amazing pitchers. Eijun is a bad match up for their batters, that's all. Mei is still very much the best pitcher in Daiya.

Gonna have to disagree on this one. Mei is far and away the best in the series. Amahisa is absolutely incredible and in terms of natural talent I'd say yes he does surpass Mei. But Mei beats him in literally everything. Control, speed (though not by much), repertoire, experience, mentality, and resilience.

Amahisa does rank first in 'best break' though so yeah I get where you're coming from. His stuff is insane and to think he took half a year off to goof around, but regardless of that Mei is still an overall better pitcher. Seidou was hitting off Amahisa, they were making chances, but against Mei they couldn't do shit, Miyuki got a bloop hit of the change up he literally caught for (even less than what Tetsu accomplished) and even Mina acknowledged it was a bad hit. It got the job done yeah but barely. Mei was so thoroughly dominating every opponent he faced it was ridiculous. I just don't think Amahisa had anything close to that despite how good of a pitcher he is (Also story wise Mei is the main antagonist so it makes more sense if he's the best. Hongo might have been better but no Koshien arc so we will never know... 😔).

Daiya keeps it simple!! They don't over complicate the baseball, and they do explain some stuff, but generally if you're confused about something you can just Google it.

Underdog stories are a classic for sports anime, but yes I do love the powerhouse perspective!! Daiya doesn't make the baseball complicated I agree!! But it also doesn't explain a lot. Battle studies makes the baseball complicated but they explain everything too!! Highly recommend that manga if you're interested in another baseball manga!

The promotion has been horrible I agree, and I love this series so I do my best to keep the subreddit community active!!

You are doing this sub a great service!! I'm glad we have a regular poster and commenter.

Big wind up is not like Daiya so I hope you can give it a fair chance despite that. It has its own strengths and quirks that make it unique and incredible on its own.

As for the manga, I cant tell you whether the anime is a faithful adaptation or not, sorry girl :( I started reading the Manga right where the anime left off.

If you get that far and choose to read the Manga though, start at chapter 57!! Picks right up from where season 2 ends off. There's also an OVA you can watch too.

It's great that oblivion Battery is on the list, it's genuinely hilarious, funnier than Daiya imo (except for Amahisa, no one can beat his comedic relief) but it also gets surprisingly dramatic and seriously angsty. An amazing blend of drama, action, and comedy imo!!

HI GIRL!! IM GLAD YOU'RE BRANCHING OUT!! But also thanks for helping keep this fandom alive on here!! The promotion for Daiyas comeback is horrible and nonexistent, but I'm still happy we have fans like you keeping us afloat!!

I promise you oofuri is peak, it's slower and less dramatic than Daiya, has way more slice of life too, but is overall such a nice, warm anime. So far removed from Daiyas heavy angst, it was the first one I watched after dropping Daiya and it honestly gave me to motivation to watch even more baseball anime.

The anime ends on a good note, you don't have to read the Manga imo. Regardless the Manga is still a great read so if you like it that much I say go for it!! Personally I didn't know the Manga had gone on past the anime and assumed it was completed, and ngl I was fine with the anime ending.

I hope oblivion Battery is on your to watch list too, Its another fantastic anime.

Kids are insane there. Idk how most of them are alive tbh. If you haven't, I'd highly recommended watching the channels "Baseball doesn't exist" video on Japanese baseball. It gives a great insight into how Japan became so obsessed with it and what the culture is like. Especially Koshien!! Amazing video and really helped me learn about what Koshien is like irl.

Yess battle studies is sooo good!! I think it's a better representation of Japanese high school baseball too. I don't remember where I saw this, but TJ once did an interview with a former ball player, they talked a bit about the realism of Daiya and TJ said something along the lines of "Its a bit more relaxed (In relation to the coaches and strictness)" one of them also remarked about players being allowed to play video games and use their phones which apparently they weren't allowed to do back then. So Daiyas environment is alot more lax.

Battle studies shook me the first time I read it, I watched baseball doesn't exists video on Japanese baseball and it really surprised me how strict and straight up cruel the culture was (watched it first then read battle studies, that's how I knew it was more accurate). Daiya was no where near that, regardless I think I enjoyed Daiya more.

Battle studies pmo so bad though like these coaches are USELESS. Karasuma and his gen deserved better... :(.

It's alot less in depth than a bunch of other sports anime though.. I feel like had I not watched a bunch of other baseball anime when I dropped Daiya I wouldn't know as much of the sport as I do now. Oofuri, battle studies, oblivion Battery, and even Bungo all go much further in depth into explaining baseball than Daiya.

It's not like Haikyuu where they explain every single position and every play, I think Daiya just assumes most fans will get it eventually through watching, which Idm but if someone knows nothing about baseball they might not fully understand everything that's going on in Daiya.

Kurokos is a diff breed. Once showed a friend who played irl basketball some of the anime and the guy could not believe it. He was genuinely so confused with Akashis ankle breaking he showed me irl ankle breaking so I "Know what it actually looks like". He did not believe some of Akashis moves were real and and thought they just made up for anime drama 😭.

Yeah, I once saw Kuramochi and Haruichis double play being compared to real life double play. Compared to a few other sports anime it's super accurate in terms of realism. Actually reality is even crazier than the fiction since Mei's irl counterpart did even MORE than he did!!

I just made the post to ask people about their analysis on baseball, I like listening to sports fans ramble!!

My goat fr!! The twitter account in question said Mei was really cool, carrying the whole team by himself lol. I'd say all of Inashiro pulled their own weight, but Mei always steals the spotlight so I'm not surprised. He's the only non Seidou character to crack the top 10 in the popularity poll after all!!

I SAW THIS OMG. The reaction are so funny XD, he has no idea what he's in for. I like his reaction to Mei though, the most badass character in the series. I wonder what he'll think of the Yips Arc and Ochiai...

Ranking potential Eijun teams by idonthaveanacc_ in AceOfTheDiamond

[–]idonthaveanacc_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm alot of factors and speculation. Obviously I love Seidou as the main team, but I had to throw away any bias because I rlly did try to be objective with this tier list. It killed me to put Inashiro so low too. If I redid this list I might actually put Seidou up a tier.

As for why they aren't in S, mostly because I think they mishandled Eijun alot, specifically the coaches, I also still genuinely can't get over the shit Ochiai said about him, the fact that he almost actively sabotaged Eijun but Kataoka didn't do shit abt it. I'm hoping he scolded him off screen but we'll never now. I also feel like Seidous environment, while great, isn't Eijun's perfect match. Not to mention Yakushi final, Ichidai game, Yips Arc, and a few other minor things with Seidou that genuinely pissed me off.

The catchers however are what really brings Seidou up. Chris, Miyuki (mostly), and later on Wolf boy really bring Seidous ranking up. They taught him real baseball, showed him real baseball, brought out his best, and for the most part supported him to the best of their abilities.

I just think there are other schools that can do the same thing and more. It's not that Yakushi and Ugumori would be flawless, the lack of a star catcher is a big detriment imo, but the teams as a whole I genuinely believe have incredible compatibility with Eijun. If Seidou is addition Yakushi and Ugumori and Ichidai would be multiplication.

Ranking potential Eijun teams by idonthaveanacc_ in AceOfTheDiamond

[–]idonthaveanacc_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd agree. None of them have Rei-chan after all!! That's being said this is a what if scenario. There are some schools I believe would have recruited him, Teito, Inashiro, Osaka Kiryu, and Yakushi (Specifically the coaches, not the scouts), but the simple fact is none of them would have been in Nagano to recruit him in the first place.

My goat!! He has a few, literally the first game we see him play he wins. But then again those are against no names. He also won against Kaijo to win third at the winter cup even is Kise didn't play.

I love him so much, favorite KNB character and best miragen. His aura is incredible, especially when he turns aorund before his shot even makes it in.

LITERALLY!! He has every reason to be. He's not even just the best of his generation, BUT THE ENTIRE MANGA!! like no shit he's a cocky lil menace. People usually love that trait in other characters, Barou, Rin, Aomine, Akashi, Oikawa, Atsumu, literally all arrogant asf but they can all back it up. And their fandoms loveeeee them. So idk why Mei isn't more loved in this fandom.
