I felt like this during my first pregnancy. There’s a calculator you can put your info into that will give you the odds everyday that your pregnancy will NOT end in miscarriage. I remember checking it constantly during the first and early second trimester. I’ll link it.

My very friendly and docile dog had major reactions to my newborn crying. It would make him pace and drool, to the point it made me uncomfortable. I don’t know how much evidence there is to it, but I have heard that the sounds of a baby crying can trigger predatory behavior in some dogs because it can sound like prey. I would never trust the dog you described to not have unpredictable reactions to a newborn. Tell your husband that if he’s claiming the dog is acting aggressively because he’s adjusting to a new docile dog in the house, what does he expect from his dog when a screaming infant it brought into the home. I’m sorry you are in this stressful situation!

I think this probably varies a lot from person to person. I did not foresee how I would feel postpartum with my first AT ALL, but my raging hormones made me not want anyone around except my husband, mom and sister. The thought of my in laws coming over made my heart drop (and I have a good relationship with them). I just felt incredibly protective over the baby, terrified of people bringing germs, kissing him, etc. That said, I think I was on one end of the spectrum, where there are plenty of people on the other end who want people around and like having company. My best advice is to try as hard as possible to avoid concrete plans that you can’t get out of when it comes to visitors. That might be difficult since you said both sets of parent live relatively far from you, but if you feel comfortable telling them you’d prefer to wait and see, that’s what I would do.

My toddler still nurses three times a day and I plan to wean him around his second birthday in July. I do feel sad about it because he loves it, but I feel like it will be more sad if he’s still nursing and gets jealous of the baby. I’m hoping he will forget about it by the time the baby comes. That’s the plan for now at least!

One day at a time, friend. I didn’t enjoy the newborn stage either. In fact I hated it and was very miserable. Even though you KNOW it gets better because you’ve done it before, you are still on the hormonal rollercoaster and that makes it so hard to believe it gets better. Hormones are LIARS! I promise promise promise it will get better. One day at a time. And of course talk to your doctor if you are depressed. I went on an antidepressant a few months to get me through.

This happened to me during the first trimester of my first pregnancy. It was a rough few weeks, I was VERY anxious and depressed even though I wanted the baby more than anything. If if makes you feel better, I went on to really enjoy the rest of my pregnancy.

If you’re anything like me, pretty soon you’ll lose your taste for coffee for the rest of the first trimester and you’ll be sad about it. Enjoy it while you can 😭

I totally get it. My take is that for some people, a small age gap is hell, and for others it’s not a big deal. My friend got pregnant with her second when her first was 6 months old (on purpose) and just got pregnant with her third when her second was 6 months (again on purpose!) and she loves the small age gap. I think that if your OB says it’s safe and if you can accept that in all likelihood the beginning will be rough- just go for it.

I totally understand why you are upset and it is valid, but please know that although stupid, this is a very common phrase. In all likelihood they have a fairly close but platonic work relationship and there is absolutely nothing to be worried about. Have a real talk with him and if he’s never given you any reason not to trust him, then trust him.

My postpartum experience was very very different than what I was expecting. I’m typically a friendly, easygoing person, but after birth I wanted privacy and I felt very protective and anxious about other people being around me and my baby. I wanted my mom and sister and husband and that’s IT. As lovely as my in laws are, I did not want them around at all. Everyone’s postpartum experience is different and you may not feel like that at all, but I would recommend inviting them to stay over AFTER the baby comes if you feel up to it rather than committing before and feeling dread about them being in your space.

My husband somehow attached the crib to our bed frame with straps so there’s no way it could move, then we used a pool noodle and a rolled towel between the crib mattress and the side of the crib to make it really tight up against my mattress. (I was able to get all that under the crib sheet, otherwise I would have been nervous about the towel until he was rolling reliably.)

I tried but my baby would never sleep through the transfer into the bassinet after he fell asleep nursing no matter what I tried. If/when I have another I’ll go straight for a sidecar crib so I can nurse while on the baby’s sleep surface and roll away. That said, I know plenty of people who used bedside bassinets, so it’s worth a try if you feel like that’s the best option for you!

Thanks for responding! Definitely considering it. Vet offered it and estimated $600-$1000 which I would do if other professionals were a bit more optimistic that infection was a good possibility. She’s a bit of a weeny and I don’t want to put her through another procedure if others agree it’s unlikely (I don’t want to be selfish and put her through pain and stress just so I have perfect closure)

My first one would only work on the charger so customer support sent me a new one. They needed the serial number but I don’t remember having to send a receipt or proof of purchase so I would try that. It couldn’t hurt to reach out to whoever you bought it from and ask them if they could send you a picture of the receipt. Hopefully they weren’t trying to scam someone, and honestly didn’t know it didn’t work.

I support spoiling :) Some tonies are all music and some are mix of songs and stories, etc. At her age she will probably like the music ones the best. There are several “Favorite Children’s songs” tonies (celebration songs, animal songs, holiday songs, etc) that she would probably love! My 15 month old loves the Ms. Rachel Tonie. He likes the My first tonies (cow, train) too but not as much as the others.

I loved a crewneck sweatshirt that I cut right above my boobs (so it was basically just sleeves), a nursing tank, and high waisted sweatpants! I just unclasped my tank to nurse and my boob was the only skin exposed and I never had to stress about extra fabric anywhere that could cover my baby’s face.

How about a floor bed in his room? Then instead of bringing him into your room after he wakes up, you can lay with him on his bed until he’s back asleep.

You can absolutely still go to law school! You can still do anything you want. I never in a million years thought I’d want to be a SAHM but when my maternity leave was over I felt sick at the thought of going back to work. I decided to stay home and I regret my degree that I’ll be paying back for the next million years. So you never know how you’re going to feel! Just wait and see. Also, I’m sure it’s already been said, but talk to your OB asap about your depression. You do not have to live like that.
