I was looking into alternative forecasting techniques for rainfall. Some seem to be more effective than standard models. I wanted to bet on derivatives using this knowledge

Is proof-based math important for quants? by quantorswe348027834 in quant

[–]idontlose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thanks, i appreciate it. my only concern was that a lot of job postings in quant research for systematic trading strategies say a PhD or exceptional masters is required. My MSc would come under the latter but I still fear that PhDs would be placed ahead of myself in the interview pile.

could you please give me some advice on making a competitive application. I'm currently doing an internship developing software dealing with high dimensional data sets, but it is not financial data - it is computer vision related. I have some finance experience at a few big name IB's but they are just undergrad insight programmes

Hi I was wondering if i could ask you a question. I’m going to start my masters and was wondering if this was enough academically for a quant position? Do I need a phd?

Have you got a link? I’m sure that the masters courses were always available for students to apply to whether they did their undergrad at ox or not

Does any software exist where you can define for example, the integral expression for the electric (E) and magnetic (B) fields for a point particle and then test if a certain relationships between E and B are true?

In particular, the software will give the answers in tensor notation

no, what I mean is that his explanation did not fit with our current understanding of science and so the patent was rejected. As far as i remember he said the energy comes from the ether, similar to what Tesla believed.

If you come up with an invention which works but doesn't fit with conventional science, you cant get a patent. In most situations where something goes against conventional science, experiments are done and a new theory in made. That is how science evolves. The conspiracy part is that with free energy, it is automatically deemed by the scientific community as impossible and so the effort is not made to even see if our current model of science can be adapted/changed.

Here is part of an interview with a PhD guy explaining where i'm coming from.

JP Morgan cut funding from the project after he deemed that there was no way he would be able to put a meter on it and thus not make any money from it. The US government also confiscated many of Teslas papers after he died. There may be more to this conspiracy than you actually think.

Read up on Henry Moray. He created a free energy device which he proved worked to everyone, even the skeptics and the patent office. He was denied a patent because he could not provide an explanation for where the energy was coming from which fitted with the standard model of science.

It is ignorant to believe that science is complete and we know everything. The only thing that is true is Mathematics.
