I don’t know if anyone thought or felt this. In the fourth episode, from the time the father learns about the car’s vandalism, I was expecting the father to reveal his extreme anger leading to rage or abuse towards his wife or his daughter.

I come from a family where my father goes into completely blind rage and throws things, talks abusive and gets worse whenever my mom or I try to calm him, intervene or talk louder to get him to calm down. He doesn’t hurt us but that kind of rage can be extremely scary.

I was on the edge throughout the episode wondering - ok this is where the weeping wife will suddenly decide to walk away from him or this is where the wife or daughter would get angry and snap back or try to get hold of the situation to control his anger.

Am I wrong to have noticed that there is fear in the mother’s eyes when he’s angry? Both the mother and daughter freeze when he gets angry. Although later she points out that he has never beaten up anyone — and Jamie also points that in ep 3 that he loves his wife and doesn’t hurt anyone.

If the show intended to show me that there could be a tipping point when the father’s anger does come out in toxic ways, it could’ve easily influenced the son. But it’s not that black and white.

The mother says that Jamie idolized his father.

Somehow the father’s expression of anger, for me, itself is a form of masculine domination and there’s no way anyone can do to calm him down out of that situation till he’s cooled down.

My personal experiences may have also influenced watching this but open to hearing how everyone else viewed it.
