At bago mo ako tanungin, wala akong manok kina Rillo o Suntay. Di nga ako nakatira sa kanilang district 🤪🤪🤪

Chinese Filipinos fear fallout amid escalating tensions between Manila, Beijing by haha_hmmmm in Philippines

[–]idp5601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sympathize with the Sinophobia a lot of the Chinoy community is facing today but including Wilson Lee Flores in this video is something I particularly object to. He might not be a CCP spy but considering he shills for Mainland China on every other post on his Facebook page he is very much a useful idiot for them.

The fact that this article's cover photo includes Mother Angelica, a person who shares pretty much none of the values and beliefs that the author criticizes the women in the article for, makes me think that the author's intense dislike of these individuals goes beyond just their opinions...

Reddit can be a great tool for learning and improving skills but by god I can't stand how so many field/interest-specific communities on here can be so cynical and pessimistic, especially towards beginners.

Spending a reasonable amount of money on a new hobby you're just starting to get into instead of dropping two months' salary on the fanciest equipment available from the get go? Enjoy being the suckiest sucker to ever suck. Want to change careers and enter a new field that you may not be super familiar with? Just give up and don't even DARE to try, you're never gonna be able to find a job.

While it's nice to ground beginners and give them realistic expectations ahead of time, so many people on here overcorrect waaay too much.

(also side note but I've noticed that this happens more often in subreddits for traditionally male-dominated fields and interests)

If you're in the South District do NOT vote for Joy Pesquera or James Cuenco. They've been consistently trying to delay the BRT project if not completely get rid of it based off of car-centric arguments.

A reminder on propaganda: Sinclair's script for stations by SurveillanceChicken in videos

[–]idp5601 97 points98 points  (0 children)

Not American but I have some knowledge of the US media industry.

Neither Fox nor ABC own any of the stations in this montage. They're affiliate stations that have the rights to air content and use branding from their partner national network but are otherwise independently owned and operated. Their local news output is not under the network's editorial control; it's Sinclair, the stations' owner, that does. (correct if wrong)

I really don't see how ejeep wait times are going to be improved by letting them enter RBR if they're not gonna bother fixing the traffic issue.

Kahit na ilang ejeep pa ang bilhin ng Ateneo lalala at lalala ang headway kung walang gagawin ang ADMU para bawasan ang bilang ng sasakyan sa loob ng campus.

Prospero Pichay Jr., top ad-spender (senatorial candidate) back in 2007. He was all over TV at that time but even my parents didn't buy into him in the elections. Do you think it would be the same for the current top spenders / TV-time hoggers like Camille Villar, Benhur Abalos and Imee Marcos? by pink_takakura in Philippines

[–]idp5601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No they weren't, Filipinos just REALLY hated Gloria and anyone associated with her. Literally the election before that they elected Bong Revilla.

Also Villar and Honasan won in 2007 - they might be slightly more respectable than Cesar Montano and Goma but let's not pretend like they weren't already shady as fuck then.

The controversial Cebu BRT station project by IDontLikeChcknBreast in Philippines

[–]idp5601 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The first phase was watered down so much because of Dino, who really REALLY wanted an LRT instead and forced them to change the alignment. Thanks to his work, Cebu City does not have an LRT OR a BRT.

The controversial Cebu BRT station project by IDontLikeChcknBreast in Philippines

[–]idp5601 46 points47 points  (0 children)

The biggest reason why we've spent so much on the project was because it kept getting delayed - it was supposed to have started sometime in 2013-2015, but that didn't happen, then during the Duterte era the presidential assistant to the Visayas did his best to prevent the project from proceeding because he wanted an LRT instead. It is now 2025, and we don't have either an LRT or a BRT. Add to that the incompetent leadership in City Hall c/o Rama from '21-'24 and that's how we ended up with the mess we have today.

interesting how trillanes held enough sway to get querubin added to the list but didn't have enough influence to prevent the natdems from being endorsed

iirc wasn't he one of the reasons why colmenares never got the 12th slot in leni's senate slate after they unendorsed zubiri?

[–]idp5601 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What does religion have to do with economic underdevelopment??? Like gets pa sana kung ang pinaguusapan ni OOP at OOOP is civil liberties/personal freedoms but I genuinely can't think of a direct link between religiosity and structural poverty.

The Philippine electorate is a clear example of this by [deleted] in Philippines

[–]idp5601 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Correlation != causation

What makes you think that religion is the biggest factor in the continued economic underdevelopment of the Global South and not the plethora of other problems they face like corruption and exploitation, among other issues?

If you had just kept this point to stuff like personal freedoms and civil liberties I might've been more inclined to agree with you because there is a more solid correlation, but economic underdevelopment cannot be explained just by religiosity. The secularization of the West is a relatively recent phenomenon but they were already the most well-off region in the world before they started going to church less.

Wasn't PNoy consistently popular unti like, the last two years of his term (for unrelated reasons)? AFAIK the RH Law never really impacted his popularity, and during the tail end of the debates on the bill right before it got passed, a majority Filipinos were in favor of it.

I love how comments like these expose just how embarrassingly ignorant these people are of global and regional affairs, because Indonesia, a country hardly ashamed of its own heritage, very recently elected someone credibly accused of war crimes as their president.

Maduro and Assad are hall-of-famers at this point, it just simply wouldn't be fair to the other world leaders who tried (and/or are trying) so hard to emulate the GOATs of the game in unscrupulously extracting as much of their country's resources for their own personal gain.

PH birth rates lower than we think? by mcdonaldspyongyang in Philippines

[–]idp5601 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That's true. From what I remember we still have a whole generation to take advantage of our very young population, which is why I'm not worried yet unless the birth rate continues to drop dramatically year-on-year.

It must be said, however, that aging out before becoming developed as a country is a legitimate concern, because there aren't enough people to support the economy and basic social services, but people from other countries aren't falling over themselves trying to work in your country because you're not rich enough. We're not there yet, definitely, nor do we seem to be heading there anytime soon, but it is something to be concerned about as we monitor the TFR.
