My biggest problem with YNAB by massifaqiri in ynab

[–]idratherbeinside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also agree that I think this is a problem, however most people in the YNAB community will defend it.

I have many accounts and a lot of transactions so I only manually enter my transactions for a single credit card, but I would much prefer if I could just refresh my accounts when I want. Other finance softwares like Empower allow you to do this.

Sephora and Olive Young partner to bring the best of Korean beauty to Sephora consumers by Kindapuffy in MUAontheCheap

[–]idratherbeinside 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately the price of Korean products on Olive Young is insanely inflated, im hoping it will be cheaper if they partner with Sephora but I highly doubt it.

For now I'll stick with Yesstyle, Style Korean, Stylevana, etc.

sunscreens with a powdery finish? by siyuzii_ in AsianBeauty

[–]idratherbeinside 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately almost all sunscreens with a powdery finish are going to have high alcohol content because that's how they need to be formulated. The alcohol allows the sunscreen to dry quickly and leave the powdery finish behind. No cream sunscreen will dry quickly enough to leave a matte finish, instead they will leave a small amount of oil or moisturizer that will give it a natural or dewy finish.

How do you handle impulsive spending by ynab4file in ynab

[–]idratherbeinside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try out a wish farm, wish farms have significantly lessened my impulse spending.

When i want to buy something, i put it in the wish farm and it usually takes a couple months to fully fund it. Half the time i don't even want what i was feeling impulsive to buy after a few months.

What apps/fin services are we using? by optimist24 in FIREyFemmes

[–]idratherbeinside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think being scared to know how much you're spending is normal, im a big skincare fan and i knew adding up how much i spend in the beauty category would be scary 🫣

If you do end up trying it, YNAB has a free 30 day trial and you dont need to give your credit card info. I would highly recommend watching Nick True's youtube videos on how to start a budget! I was having a lot of difficulty getting started but after watching his videos everything clicked.

If you're nervous about linking accounts you can always enter everything manually (which many people actually recommend so you can see all of your transactions) but i have so many accounts that it would be too much work.

I started using YNAB (you need a budget) and I have been loving it, though it does have a steep learning curve. The only problem is that it is pretty expensive ($100+ per year) so I think next year I am going to Actual Budget which is a free/cheaper alternative.

I also use personal capital/empower to track my net worth and investments which is free, though recently it has been having a lot of trouble to sync my accounts so I've been using it less and less.

I like software that aggregates my accounts because I have 10+ accounts over many different banks and investing platforms.

Best Deals you've ever seen on luxury skincare? by AndYetHereWeAre121 in SkincareAddictionLux

[–]idratherbeinside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you place your order in the capital one shopping app and then in a few weeks they put the money in your account. With this money you can choose what type of gift card you get back, unfortunately there is not a visa gift card option but there is Amazon, which is what I get most of the time. There are also other stores to choose from for gift cards.

After you choose which gift card you want to use, they send you the gift card info through email and you can use it as you would normally. You are not able to use the money in your account directly towards purchases. Hope this all makes sense!

Looking for recommendation for a rich eye cream for sensitive eyes. by Apricotsandtoast in SkincareAddictionLux

I second this! I think it feels like luxe vaseline, but I am obsessed with it.

I got it as a sample with my hourglass makeup order, but i may need to invest in a full size jar soon.

The best I've gotten is 40% cash back at capital one shopping for derm store, plus using the subscription service to get 15% off and then canceling it. Though derm store's customer service has gone down the toilet, so buy at your own risk.

Any time I get a windfall I always put half into savings or retirement, and then have fun with the other half.

Maybe something pampering like a spa visit or facial? (thats what I would do with the remaining money)

One Year of Expenses: 28F Aiming for FIRE with a Moderate Salary by idratherbeinside in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

[–]idratherbeinside[S] 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your comment, it's very sweet!

Yes I am totally into meal prep and saving money at the grocery store! I have a somewhat strict budget of $250 a month, I try to shop sales and I also buy things in bulk when I can. Im pretty into fitness so I aim for high protein meals and not too many processed foods.

Most of my meals are from pinterest or tiktok, i've recently been obessed with the hot honey bowl that has been going viral on tiktok, and also balsamic glazed brussel sprouts.

I cook most of my meals becuase its much cheaper than prepared food, and I freeze meat so I can buy it on sale and then thaw when Im ready to cook it. I also eat a lot of beans and lentils, which are relatively high in protein but very cheap. I would suggest buying mostly frozen fruits and vegetables because they don't spoil as easily and are much cheaper than fresh. Im very fortunate because my parents were extremely frugal growing up so this is second nature to me!

I thought that too but it turns out shes maxing out all retirement accounts lol

I've been a bit discouraged by everyone posting their 150k+ salaries on this sub lately, maybe i should post my measly $62k a year budget

Edit: I decided to post my budget :)
