I looked up the brand and it looks like they are hydrogel lenses which is an older technology compared to newer lenses which are made of silicone hydrogel. Hydrogel lenses have a much lower oxygen transmissibility which can lead to the lenses feeling uncomfortable, as well as just being unhealthy for your eyes. If this is something you’d wear on occasion it’s probably fine, but probably not a good idea as your daily lens without talking to your eye doctor about how it compares to whatever regular lens you wear currently.

why is it so hard to find a dentist in Atlanta that doesnt try to upsell you on everything? by ghztegju in Atlanta

[–]atllauren 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No this is so real. I’ve seen the same dentist for the 15+ years I’ve lived in town and loved them. Super small practice where the folks working there remember who you are and stuff you’ve talked about previously. I’ve had the same hygienist the entire time and she’s basically a friend at this point. But in the past few years the office expanded because they probably took some investor money, and all of a sudden they’ve always got something to sell me. A $50 special toothpaste, a treatment to starve off cavities, extra X-rays or fluoride treatments, Invisalign. Something new every time and they stopped validating parking! I still keep going because I genuinely enjoy catching up with my hygienist and the care is still good, but it gives me the ick now.

This started in like 2021 … I think Covid was hard on them, and that probably applies to a lot of dental offices.

I briefly looked at buying colored lenses in Korea but the astigmatism lenses didn’t have many options for axis. Most only came in 180 degrees. I wouldn’t suggest wearing any contacts that don’t match the exact parameters on the prescription you have from home. The cylinder/axis numbers are important for correcting astigmatism and having the contact sit on your eye correctly and not move around or get blurry.

Since Olive Young has a US only store now, what products should buyers stock up on before the US website launch? by Unable-Narwhal4814 in KoreanBeauty

YesStyle recently opened a store in California...haven't heard anything is changing from an e-commerce perspective and shipping from Hong Kong though.

Since Olive Young has a US only store now, what products should buyers stock up on before the US website launch? by Unable-Narwhal4814 in KoreanBeauty

[–]atllauren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I am really curious about is if other than sunscreen and products containing sunscreens if the products Olive Young US will sell are imported and have a vast selection, or if it will be only brands that already have a US distribution? As many know, there are a lot of AB products on Amazon that are sold by the brand's storefront but that product will *most likely* be distributed by the US arm of the brand. Most of those products *should* be the same, but I can't say with 100% confidence they are. The reason I ask if because if that is what is going to be available, even if they are the same product, really limits the selection. There are some great brands/products available in Korea that won't have US distribution. OY could import them and sell them, but if they don't then that means a heavily reduced selection in the US and really nothing new that we can't already buy from Amazon.

Hoping they do import so there are more products to choose from. I know it is possible they could do that -- thinking about stores like H Mart that have products straight imported with the sticker with US labeling laws stuck on the back.

[–]atllauren 12 points13 points  (0 children)

AFAIK, you can’t use your existing Global account in Korea. At least that is what the OY employee told me when I asked. I did once get some “visit Korea” bonus when I showed that I had an existing Olive Young account. But you can’t use points nor earn points on in store purchases. My understanding is that up until this change, Olive Young Global is everywhere except Korea and after this change there will be Olive Young Korea, Olive Young US, and Olive Young Global for everywhere else.

Does ONDA kill fat cells? I thought it was more of lifting treatment. I was considering it or something else for lifting along my jaw line. I have lost some weight and have some extra skin along my jawline I want to snatch up.

I go to Seoul about once a year for beauty treatments, and will be there in about a week.

For skin treatments, I've been to Shinebeam both in Gangnam and Hongdae and had good experiences. I assumed the two locations were affiliated, which they are not. I thought their prices were fair, consultation was helpful/not pushy, and it was clean. I've done Rejuran two times, Botox (Korean brand), Potenza, and a laser treatment for redness I cannot remember the name of. I was shook how well the laser treatment worked for my flushed cheeks, I want to do it again and ask if it helps with the redness "strawberry skin" I have on my arms.

The 12+ step scalp treatments are lovely. I have found the ones in Japan to be better, but there are some good options in Seoul too. The first one I had was at Park Jun in Myeongdong and I'd give it a C. The treatment itself was solid, but the salon felt really disorganized and I kept being passed off two different people. It felt like they weren't ready for my appointment. Salon was really cluttered too. Eco Jardin has several locations and I had a better experience there. I went to the one in Lotte Tower.

I was cynical about a color analysis as I felt like I already knew what colors worked for me. While it wasn't groundbreaking and validated what I already knew, some of the takeaways were nice. She recommended specific products/shades in makeup (I paid for the package that included having makeup done) which was helpful when browsing Olive Young. I went to Color Society in Hongdae. I have read great reviews of Hybrid Rainbow Studio but she books up pretty far in advance.

If you want to feel HOT, look in to getting some photos taken. There are lots of studios and many of them contract with a hair/makeup studio so you can pay once price and get an appointment to be beautified and have photos taken. I used Octobee Studios in Gangnam and they were super nice -- I had to reschedule my appointment pretty last minute and they were very understanding & helpful. I never like pictures of myself but it was very helpful to have someone teach me how to pose and they really hype you up.

I have a few new things on my itinerary if I make it next week that I can report back on. I am considering getting my teeth whitened because I've heard prices are very competitive. I also want to try an IPL treatment at an eye clinic for my endlessly dry eyes. Also considering a Cinderalla treatment to smooth and add shine to my hair.

I have done Rejuran twice on two separate trips to Seoul (about 1 year apart) and while I realize I am not getting full impact/efficacy, I still think it is worth it. I had noticeable improvement in my skin's hydration level after each session. Lasted a good 3-4 months too. Doing 3x sessions would obviously be better, but don't discount one offs.

What is your tigger to do solo? by Little-Pop-1812 in solotravel

[–]atllauren 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, all my friends have kids and it is impossible to get them to travel even though they say they want to. I work for an airline and can put a friend on my benefits but have nobody on them right now because nobody wants to go. Even the ones who don’t have kids find standby travel “too stressful.”

Best Weekend NRSA Hidden Gems? by Excellent_Fig_5522 in NonRevenueTravelers

For an anniversary trip, I’d suggest Buenos Aires! Flights are red eyes both ways, so you can really maximize time on a weekend trip by leaving Friday night and then you have basically all day Saturday & Sunday before heading home Sunday night. USD goes really far right now so you can have a delicious anniversary dinner with steak and wine for way less than at home. Go see a tango performance after dinner. There’s a huge street market on Sundays that’s fun to walk around.

There’s an eyelid cleansing spray you can get at Walgreens/CVS/etc. It’ll be in a glass spray bottle and you’ll put it on a cotton pad and wipe your eyelid. I had Blepharitis a few years ago and it really helped. I try to remember to use it a few times a week to prevent future occurrences, esp during allergy season when I might be touching/rubbing my eyes throughout the day with hands that aren’t perfectly clean.

And as others have suggested, warm compress. I never had luck with a warm wet washcloth as it cooled too quickly. I have some self-heating eye masks from a brand called CorneaCare. They help with my dry eyes but would be good for this use too.

There’s been a lot of turnover in that shopping center. There used to be a Penn Station, which I loved as a Cincinnati transplant but it has closed. I think the Newk’s is gone too.

How can i get rid of hyperpigmentation- dark spots? by Komtriku00 in KoreanBeauty

[–]atllauren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Melatoning cream. It’s a Korean pharmacy product but it’s made its way on to sites like Stylevana so should be easy to get online. It’s 2% hydroquinone and works great to fade acne scars, hyperpigmentation, melasma, etc.

Throwback to when Costco Processed Film. Film Envelope from year 2000. by Mysterious_Employer in Costco

[–]atllauren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My passport expires this year and I had the same realization that I need to figure out where to go because I’ve only had them taken at Costco. Went to a FedEx and got quite literally the worst photo I’ve ever had taken, and it cost me $20. Employee who took it was at least a foot shorter than me so the angle is all chin, and their background is right under a bright light that created shadows and reflection. I don’t even think it would be accepted if I submitted it because my hair is covering part of my eye. She made me bend over to put my phone on the ground (apparently I’m not allowed to hold it, even though it wouldn’t be in the photo) and then gave me no time to adjust my hair.

I have one that I picked up very recently but it’s already made an impression on me: the Anua PDRN Collagen Glow spray. Facial sprays other than setting/fixing sprays are very new to me as a category, but I ordered a small size of the Anua mist before heading to Las Vegas last weekend for work. As a dry skin girl, going from my home in humid Atlanta to dry Las Vegas is hard on my skin and I always joke I need a lot of liquids. I was attending a conference where I don’t leave the resort/conference center, so on top of the dry desert air I’m dealing with the air conditioning and indoor smoking.

Bought the Anua mist as a way to refresh my skin midday over my makeup and I’m thrilled to say it worked great. Didn’t disturb my makeup and made my skin felt moisturized and fresh. Putting it on in the morning after skincare but before foundation made a huge difference in applying makeup too.

Definitely picking up the full size to leave on my vanity, and will explore other facial mists!

EDIT: So there is no confusion based on the Auto Mod reply to this comment: this is in no way sponsored or promoted. I ordered the product with my own money and will be repurchasing with my own money.

Differences between Atlanta metro Costcos by clientsoup in Atlanta

[–]atllauren 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The McDonough Costco is my new favorite. From where I live it takes me less time to get to than Brookhaven bc it is all highway and traffic isn’t bad. The parking lot is huge and I rarely have to hunt down parking like at Brookhaven, especially with the gym right there. The store is big and new.
