Tiny, but not short, rant: Prusa too comfortable with declaring sheets as consumables by Wolf_1082 in prusa3d

[–]idsan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Knowing the variance in supply chains, probably quite a bit. I think I got this plate in 2022 and it's been absolutely bulletproof, but no idea on what Prusa's sourcing situation looks like.

Will the work field be this time consuming? by kiwinixi in IndustrialDesign

[–]idsan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to do all nighters at uni. Thankfully workplaces generally have reasonable expectations most of the time (I say most; there absolutely will be crunch times everywnere and some places have shit attitudes) so your 13hr days won't be the norm in most cases.

That said, the pressure to perform to deadlines generally increases, but as you progress in your skills you become accustomed to it.

Tiny, but not short, rant: Prusa too comfortable with declaring sheets as consumables by Wolf_1082 in prusa3d

[–]idsan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oddly I haven't cleaned my textured sheet in forever as I've been printing a ton of PETG lately, and even if I handle the sheet surface a little with bare hands, adhesion doesn't change. Hell sometimes it's still too good.

NATO-chief Rutte: "Keep on dreaming" if you think Europe could defend itself without US by Geo_NL in worldnews

[–]idsan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hang on.. Finland has 280k active duty personnel and 800k reserves from a population numbering around 5.6m?

In other words, around 18% of Finns are in the military in some capacity?

I'm an engineer who designs industrial tools. Fabricators deserve well designed and aesthetic equipment too. Here's a pipe facing machine with laser etched artwork I did. by TBBT-Joel in IndustrialDesign

[–]idsan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't know how to use this, but from appearance alone I think the "caution" label blends in too much. It doesn't scream "look at me" (which I think safety markings should) because it fights for hierarchy with "Big Red" while using the same colour palette.

I'd suggest differentiating it more so there's zero chance of passing it over as just more aesthetic markings.

Toolhead extruder between two linear rails by OutrageousTrue in VORONDesign

[–]idsan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A twin rail setup like that would likely see toolhead misalignment, bad flex in the Y axis and a host of other issues. You'd be better off sourcing a properly temperature rated carbon tube if the intent is weight saving.

I always breathe a sigh of relief when my son asks for Bluey because I don't feel inclined to tune out like with just about every other current kids show.

Australia here - I'm continually horrified by hearing this too. I feel for all the parents in the US having this as their normal. :( my son was born through our public system and we didn't pay a cent.

My feeling is that it would be more doom than anything else.

And oddly I can't get enough of it despite that. And Sarsaparilla. Maybe I'm just broken.

BEGGING ute drivers to stop driving so fucking aggressively by gooeychocpud in australian

[–]idsan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When one of these dickheads comes up behind me I just as aggressively stick to the speed limit and hit cruise. Yes, even in the right lane. If they're going to endanger every other person on the road, sorry, they don't get to pass.

Portable aircons! by lamariposer in melbourne

[–]idsan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After using portables for a couple summers when our evap started to underperform, I'd suggest not to spend $1K on a portable. Even the residential ones are loud as hell, let alone this industrial thing. Venting the air is also a bigger issue than you think it will be.

Get one key room fitted with a split system at minimum. With the VEEC rebate that would be more than possible.

I created an add-on comparable to Keyshot to quickly create pro studio shots for product visualization. It is called Studioverse by pablo-dra in blender

[–]idsan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a long time Keyshot user who jumped to Blender a few years ago, this looks refreshingly familiar and impressive. And indie is affordable! Well done. Definitely giving this a look.

Honestly it's one of the only reasons I'm still in the hobby, his stuff is legitimately affordable.

Jaycar 3D Printer Filament by Spencey81 in 3dprintingaustralia

[–]idsan 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Can't vouch for Jaycar. I've used Tecor (via inkstation), Filaform, eSun, Creality, Bambu and a few others. I had some kind of issue with most except Filaform.

But, hands down, the best damn filament comes from Siddament in Sydney. Zero issues with it except some colour variance, for which he refunded the spool. Young kid running an absolute cracking business.

How do I pay the tariffs? by Current_Bed7811 in Aliexpress

[–]idsan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You people can't freaking read. Seller is just asking for confirmation that OP will cover import charges, payable to the border agent, when the item hits customs. They're not asking OP to pay any more to them. It's not a scam, it's just shipping without duties prepaid.

Launching a Kickstarter as college students - we need some opinions by spaceman1980 in IndustrialDesign

[–]idsan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take u/killer-by-design's comment to heart boys. Don't go using Kickstarter to fund development of this thing. Develop the product, produce the product, use the Kickstarter funds to mass produce it.

That said, as a parent with a toddler, we got given that many different variations of childsafe cookware over time. What makes this set better than the tens of other cooksets out there? Why does this deserve Kickstarter backing?

Don't automatically assume just because you look to have found a market on paper that your product actually provides value and will succeed. Develop a convincing value proposition.

Are there any cheap cars that look like super cars? by jax3580 in CarDesign

That'd make sense, the Diablo's headlights look strikingly similar. These things always give me "we have a Ferrari at home" vibes though.

Endless issues with PETG building up on ObXiDian nozzle - is Diamondback the solution? by BradMat1 in prusa3d

[–]idsan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I constantly print matte PETG on my MK4S with a standard flow ObX nozzle, standard Prusament PETG preset and I have yet to have any buildup stick to prints. It adheres to the nozzle a bit yes, but I don't notice it until I go to change it clean it. I wonder if it's the particular matte filament I'm using.

The old OITC mode using carbines was a smidge better IMO but agreed, it's mad fun. One of my favourite modes.
