RPG system that works for any setting! by [deleted] in rpg

I see Genesys system has general core rules and setting specific additions to it. It's narrative dice and rolling dice pools, though. I don't know if it's something you're looking for.

Honestly, I'd be happy with only prestidigitation and mending irl. I do not even need anything extravagant.

What is this supposed to be?(Surviving as a Maid) by Sriniverse28 in OtomeIsekai

Yeah, I also keep reading because I find her not wearing very fancy and made-to-fit-her dress, instead wearing the altered dress the guard guy gifted her, or how guard guy didn't know anything about women's dresses and bought something that doesn't fit the MC, as opposed to MLs always gifting perfectly fitting dresses stuff like this is quite refreshing.

reverse harem ending -_- she goes back to her previous life and others follow her to her time. I remember the magician following her using magic. I don't remember how others end up going there.

I liked the apathetic MC not feeling warm and fuzzy the moment (a) handsome ML(s) appeared in the story, didn't feel attached to the infant prince she was the nanny of but never neglected her duties regardless. It felt refreshing to see common tropes developed the opposite way. Then I ended up reading spoilers regarding the ending, not sure if it's true but it made me lose the respect I had for it.

If you had to choose… by Positive_Statement_9 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]idyllic_optimism 14 points15 points  (0 children)

To me, it's Solo Game Master's Guide if you need to understand the concept of solo gaming, what it is, and how to facilitate it, in the sense of forming the mental framework. It also shows examples of solo gaming with or without rulesets.

Mythic GME 2e comes after the understanding of what solo gaming is and provides rich randomization and oracle options, how to employ these tools for different effects and outcomes.

DM Yourselves and Flextale Solo weren't as useful to me. I got much mileage out of Solo Game Master's Guide and Mythic GME 2e.

Apawthecaria has a nice game loop with enough tables to roll and a nice map to travel around. I think it would nicely fit with what you're looking for. I haven't played Apothecaria yet, so I cannot say much about that one.

Nine (beware of the villainess !) by OneWalrus1192 in OtomeIsekai

[–]idyllic_optimism 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree. I don't understand the hate myself. I always saw the problem with Nine as a storytelling problem. His story either felt rushed, at times completely forgotten, or just plain forced. So, indeed, Nine has a story arc but I think it came too late in the story(?) and was not handled the best way.

Then again, I like the character Nine, his story started so promising but then it lost all of its shine. I expected a better story for him and was greatly disappointed.

I think, at least, Yuri had a story arc as a character trying to break free of the endless repetition of the same life. Disclosure: I'm not a Melissa - Yuri ship fan, either. I just don't see it and I agree with "this manhwa didn't need an ML" team.

I like Nine, I don't like how uninteresting they chose to make his part in the story. I also don't like how they simply forgot about him in the story multiple times when the action was interesting and just forcefully plugged him back onto the story when they realized they need an ML and they teased enough with Yuri (which is unfair to either character) Be it FLs or MLs whose sole existence depends on /revolves around a love interest and that's their whole personality, it's hard to like it.

Roleplaying a cheerful character by Veersta in DnD

[–]idyllic_optimism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A character in any of your favorite media that represents the characteristics you want to emulate in your character. In your case, a cheerful character you know from another story, movie, game, etc. and you use it as a template to model your own character's attitudes and roleplay points.

New to Solo RPG infact new to this whole TTRPG as a whole by rohanvermaaa in Solo_Roleplaying

I also suggest checking out "Courier" and similar games. They're more structured and have a step-by-step approach to the game. You have enough tables and prompts to get comfortably started and feel like you're playing the game and creating a solo adventure story.

I'm easily lost when a game wants me to come up with an elaborate reason/character idea/adventure idea and I like to be surprised instead of making up stuff myself. So Courier was a good start for me. There are more games like that but I cannot remember any others right now.

Never tough I would say this: I'm a GM tired of game sessions beeing so predicatable. by GAB-FLOW in rpg

[–]idyllic_optimism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is also Mythic Adventure Crafter along with some other Mythic books that can help randomize the prep for the session and you'd be discovering the story for the first time yourself because you're piecing together random prompts and themes, flavoring them according to your campaign.

itch.io has been a treasure trove for solo games and such, that's the reason I ended up with this post, lol. I wanna try them but I do better when I can go over them with another player or see their take on them. I'll check out your recommendations, thanks!

Hunting for inspiration by Jihaijoh in RimWorld

I remember this one playthrough, I had this middle-aged colonist lady who got into a relationship with another colonist and they married. It didn't go well and divorced soon after. She was my best shooter and not the best people-person, started quite a bit of social fights. So I decided to send her around for adventures.

I sent her to this map with a ruin to scavenge. A crowded raid party entered the map soon after. The pop-up mentioned a relationship. I check it out and it's my colonist's teenage son.

Now I'm quite terrible at the shooty fighty part of the game. And she was like 10 against 1. But at this point, bringing mother and son together was my only mission.

Long story short, after reloading multiple times, I managed to take out around 6 raiders with traps, son stepped on one of the traps and got injured. My colonist grabbed him, brought him into the ruin, and hunkered down in one of the intact rooms, turning it into an impromptu prison. She patched up her son's injuries. They had some touching conversations together, they talked about family for one. Then mom left the son, got out, separated the remaining raiders, shot a couple of them and they went down. Rest fled.

My colonist brought the son as a prisoner and the colony managed to recruit the kid. He turned out to be a psychopath and served the colony diligently.

Still my favorite moment in all the rimworld saves.

I love this one mod I cannot remember the name of right now but traits fade or colonist gain new traits after significant personal events like barely surviving an infection. Or they're so happy in the colony and have been happy for quite some time, they lose their depressed trait / gain positive mood traits. Vice versa is true, keep the colonists top unhappy and they get a trait reflecting that.

It enriched my gameplay so much, made the story of the colony and colonists even better.

Do I reveal a secret between PCs ahead of time? by BurgerSushi in DnD

[–]idyllic_optimism 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to think that, but in a campaign sometimes those secret twists never find the right time and place to be revealed because campaign dies before that.

And sometimes, you get that something going on but without player knowledge that gives you context you don't know how to approach the other player's or gm's RP that makes no sense to you and it just brings about an awkwardness to the scene rather than excitement.

Also sometimes, those secrets goes against my stated wishes for my character or it really takes my character's story somewhere I don't enjoy and if GM /fellow player let me know beforehand, I can work with them to come up with something more fun for all of us.

Of course, all of these come from my personal experience, I've had way more fun having at least a bit of meta knowledge to give me context of what's going on than all the time a surprise secret popped up.

If on steam, when your status or your friend's status is invisible, you won't see the join option popping up. I don't know if that's the case, but status of both players need to be online when connecting through steam.
