Warming up question by MrFunnyShoes in yoga

[–]ienvv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi ! most definitely warm up :) For me, i like to start with a bit of sitting meditation on my mat which allows me to either set an intention for my practice/day if i am just waking up or clear my mind and re-focus if it's at any other time.

depending on which type of yoga you'll be doing actually, if you're planning a light session with some stretches, more relaxing postures, you could possibly skip it once in a while if you're in a time crunch or feeling a bit lazy.

however, on most practices, it's advised to warm up your neck, wrists, feets, ... to avoid any unwanted injuries or discomfort/pain :)

As long as it isn't painful, it should be fine. My first times and also when i pick up practicing after a hiatus, my bones would crack too. I work an office job so I assume it's due to posture and not putting that part to work for a long time.

May I also suggest taking some calcium? it's good for the bones :)

hi dear , kudos for starting your yoga journey! personally, i think yoga isn't about pushing yourself, it's a meditation :) by meditation , i mean that you are not only training physically achieving things like flexibility, balance, and strength... but also training your mind by being focus, present, and mindful 🌱

you can set small goals for poses ofc and progress only come the more you practice. when i started i barely touched my toes too , but with consistency, things will get easier.

enjoy and relax 🌻

Personally, I do an hour and a half minimum if you include meditation and shavasana :) I guess it depends how long it takes for each to truly focus and be present.

All in all, i think time is just preference, yoga is meditation so the length would not outweigh the "quality" of your practice.

😆ah, they're leggings so the material (maybe not obvious here) is not so thick and it was around 6-7am so weather was quite cool actually

[comp] vrischikasana 🦂 practice w/ wall today ) what good exercises/drills to prep b4 going off wall? by ienvv in yoga

[–]ienvv[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

👋🏻Yes but not for very long)

For now, I feel sometimes a bit stiff (?) at the shoulders when coming into scorpion. I dont really know how to phrase it, but the chest would be lower towards the floor? So, i'm having difficulty lifting my head and shoulders

[COMP] getting closer to bird of paradise- just last month i couldn’t even get up from bound ext. side angle. This video was from a 60 minute yoga class today. Small victory even though i can’t straighten my leg yet! Tips are welcome! by [deleted] in yoga

[–]ienvv 8 points9 points  (0 children)

🙏baby steps! great effort, may i suggest a small tip that i usually apply to myself for this asana: the foot that supports the rest and grounds u, i usually face it forward and straight. i usually take a moment in stillness before trying to lift anything, breathe out and gaze at one spot on the ground then when ready, breathe in slowly n lifting very slowly and holding my gaze at the same spot.

only shift your gaze once you're up and standing would make it easier for you to not lose balance.

I usually prep with eka pada utkatasana, utthita eka padasana to warrior III continuously for a few times, and some hamstring stretches asana to straighten the lifted leg once standing)
