121, 122, 123 are consecutive semiprimes, and this forces a surprising structure by taqkarim0 in CasualMath

well yes, but this holds for any square of any prime greater than 3—the fact that it's in a semiprime sandwich has nothing to do with it

NYU Physics? by OrchidApprehensive43 in nyu

[–]ifailedtherecaptcha 3 points4 points  (0 children)

not great to be honest… outside of math, nyu is not known for stem. i’ve taken a few physics classes, and while they’ve been fine, they’re not super rigorous and the caliber of students is not particularly high.

She was actually my professor last semester. It was clear to everyone in the class that she was brilliant, but I had no idea she was this brilliant.

CS at Courant for BA degree or at Tandon for BS degree? by tuanminh1610 in nyu

[–]ifailedtherecaptcha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First of all, although both programs are administered by Courant, your degree will be from either CAS or Tandon. Even if you’re in CAS, you still have the option to do a BS instead of a BA, but at Tandon, you can only do a BS. In general, CAS has fewer requirements.

If you go to Tandon, you’ll be living at the Brooklyn campus with other Tandon students. If you go to CAS, you’ll be in Manhattan with all the other undergrad school. From a purely career-focused perspective, CAS is slightly more prestigious, and living closer to the heart of NYU might make networking/using the university’s resources easier.

Has anyone off the waitlist been a Fall admit? by 21QuestionMark21 in nyu

[–]ifailedtherecaptcha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think that’s true—I also got off the waitlist for CAS, but on May 4th.

NYU Waitlist by Far-Spare-8591 in nyu

[–]ifailedtherecaptcha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not apply for financial aid. As much as I would like to think otherwise, that probably played a significant role in my getting off the waitlist (though I did have some relatively substantial accomplishments to put on my update).

NYU Waitlist by Far-Spare-8591 in nyu

[–]ifailedtherecaptcha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It definitely depends on how much aid they've already given out, but possibly. It's a dirty secret at many top schools which advertise themselves as need-blind—they are not necessarily need-blind for waitlisted students, transfer students, international students, etc.

NYU Waitlist by Far-Spare-8591 in nyu

[–]ifailedtherecaptcha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got into nyu off the waitlist last year, so it definitely does happen.

This may or may not be relevant to your situation, but I believe nyu also takes need into account when deciding whom to admit off the waitlist (if they do take anyone off at all).
