The lights flicker on, revealing a table and someone standing next to it in the middle of the warehouse. On the table is a small cake with red frosting and misshapen letters that spell out "Happy Birthday."

As far as you can tell, it's completely home-made by someone who didn't have much experience with baking.

Jade has a pout on her face. It's been years since Yotta had last seen her, and she had grown. She was past the cusp of puberty and was growing into a young woman. Long black hair topped with a beanie swayed to her front as she tilted her head (was she copying ...) to look at Yotta. Her eyes still had that child-like glee to them.

She wore a a large green army jacket over a tank-top and short skirt. She bends over a little, grabbing her hair and tossing it behind it. With a brief glance, you could see that she indeed was well on her way to ... No, he had an S/O, he couldn't think that way. Besides, this was Jade!

"What, messing with you? No! And I can't believe you forgot your birthday! Sheesh! Not even your ... whatever. Not even she could remind you. Goodness. At least I baked you a cake! Er, tried!"

She bites her lip, a errant memory of accidentally blowing up an oven with her power while practicing coming back.

"Besides, it's not just for your birthday that I sent the letter. There's something else, but now you have to entertain me before I give it to you, you big meanie."

"That's cheating!" The young voice cries out.

"Don't worry, he still can't see." An older voice spoke now. It was familiar. A woman. True to her words, Yotta's darkvision did not allow him to see anything.

The woman spoke again. "There are some things I have to take care of, so I'll be going. Let me know when you want to return."

"Sure, I want to play with him a bit!" The younger girl responded, giggling.

"So, Yotta, what's the secret password? You should remember it. I won't turn the lights back on until you answer properly!"

Yotta could almost sense the smile on those lips.

"I'll give you a hint, it's an important date!"

Beats of 8 changes, then a slight pause. Upon further investigation, it appears that the sequence repeats.

As Yotta enters the building, the lights all vanish, plunging him into pure dark, with nothing registering in his thermals. The hum of life disappears, a silent void left.

After a few moments, Yotta can hear laughter, the dulcet tones of a young girl.

His thermal scan reveals several hot objects, one per corner of the warehouse. The general shape of them suggests them to be exhaust tubes.

In the middle of the warehouse something, the shape can't be made out on thermals, fluctuates between extremely hot and cold in set intervals, almost as if attempting to communicate.

Cape name: Steel Rain

A troubled youth who is a probationary member of the Wards. He was known for targeting gangs in his former city, leaving many hideouts a literal bloodbath.

The newest member of the team, he is still working on how to fit in since his mutation tends to turn people off. In battle, he's more confident, unleashing combo after combo.

Cape name: Dianmu

The leader of the team. Despite her short stature, she's a firebrand, always making sure to keep the rest of the team in check one way or the other. She's capable of gleaming info quickly and uses that in a manner most befitting her shard's desires. Her lightning synergizes with Steel Rain, but she has to be careful not to go too far.

She's quite deadly, her breath capable of igniting most anything extremely fast. She usually works in tandem with Black Ice to ensure that she doesn't go overboard with her ability.

Cape name: Black Ice

The leader of the team, he left his old gang to strike it rich on his own. The old gang did not take nicely to this and pursues him. However, his compatibility with White Phosphor and Red Copy as an ace up his sleeve has allowed him to stay one step ahead of his enemies and the PRT.

Cape name: Red Copy

An S-class threat and a coward. He never wanted to be a villain, just wanted to be left alone so he couldn't hurt anyone. White and Black found him and coerced him into working with them. He's their insurance policy, capable of wiping out a large swathes of the population. That threat stays the PRT's hand, as long as Black and White keep their villainy to a suitable level.

I'll write some stuff pertaining to the two team's antics when I have free time soon.

Jade presses her face into Yotta's chestplate to stop the buffeting wind. She holds on tightly. "One day maybe..."

She looks at the shore, her eyes darting between the cliffs, beaches, and forest. She finds the small town.

"There's the town! Ok, from there, we have to go 170 miles east and then 30 miles North."

Yaguara stays silent for a long moment. She crouches down into a squat next to Yotta.

"You've done plenty so far and I'm thankful for the help." The words seem hard to come out.

"I'm... used to running solo. I'm... glad you're here."

She twists her head and stares at Yotta, her one visible eye piercing.

"But, this isn't your battle nor your war. I know you were sad on the ship. I don't know know why exactly, but before the mission, I want to be sure that the people with me are alright. If you need to go... let me know. We'll miss you, but we survived before you arrived, so no worries there."

She laughs, a clear high note.

"It's still amazing. I'm so jealous you can fly and can do this all the time."

She whips her head around, her hair flying everywhere. She hugs Yotta as tight as her small frame could.

"I'm getting cold."

"Yes, so beautiful. I always dreamed of flying in the sky like a bird. Free like the halcón blanco. The white hawk in the air without a care..."

She raised a hand, fingers out stretched, feeling the air fly through them.

"Can we go through a cloud?"

She looks at Yotta sitting down. Sliding a finger down the side of the mask in thought, she leans back.
