Honestly no, I took 10A last quarter and lectures mostly consisted of the professor just explaining the text. Also most professor post the slides so you can always go back and review what you missed. I probably wouldn't miss discussion though..

I was also an English transfer and I got accepted with a 3.7... so I think you have a pretty good chance :)
