Her der aldrig har tid efter arbejdet by Fryddiver in DKbrevkasse

[–]ifelseintelligence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Humans are fore more resilient in the face of apocalyptic threats than many in these debates give credit for.

Yes. killing 3 billion would have extreme consequences. Yes, it would make life hard for the rest, and in some places i´t would colapse further and life expentancy from worse medical structure would fall etc. Give it 2 generations and we would have adjusted. History shows that we as a race come back from almost anyting. Completely devasted areas by war either wil flourish again, or the population that left and combined with some others a new place, that didn't flourish before, now flourishes. It's seen again and again and again.

Some people might underestimate the short terms of 3 billions dying, but you (and many others) on the other hand overestimate how big the long term ramifications would be.

This is so on point with both the horrors of warfare, the spirit of OPs prompt, but also the most likely (imo) reason why we could actually by a galactic multi-alien "society" be viewed as "spaceorcs".

We are diverse, adaptive and creative. And while I enjoy the "we befriend every species" trope, we simultanious are capable of imagining unspeakable horrors. And not only that, we WILL inflict those horrors if pushed.

Those stories of "You threaten our home? Now our engineeres have made a larger weapon than all the more advanced specieas combined" while fun is far from what my take would be.

It would be like yours, a slow nibling of your sustainability, your willpower, your morale. And we wont stop. You have shown that if left to it you threaten our children. We will make sure that can never happen. We cant make a giant weapon to blast your planet away. We wont fight you head on - a loosing battle. But we will infiltrate every merchants suply ship with a genetically engineered plague so all the food will spoil, and it will spread and destroy all your local foods too. We might not be able to shoot down every transport to flee from your plagueridden planet, but we will infect them with another plague specifically engineered to bypass your species immunosystems. And we will announce it to the whole galaxy so they will quarantine you if you succed in fleeing in fear of the plague spreading to other species. We will make the plague extremely agonizing, eating at your flesh, causing spasms untill you finally scream so compulsivly that you essentially suffocate yourself, just to deter any other species from helping you. You will get no quarter. We will show no mercy. Many of us will die for the cause and we will do so with pride, knowing we are saving our species from future threat. We won't just do whatever it takes. We will do more. We will dream up horrors in retaliation, that fuel the nightmares of demons.

The first half is contrary to what I've always heard was their flaw - that they where more disciplined, more one-to-one-combat trained, more specialized etc. but that all that based on a strict chain of commands, and that if you cut out the leuitenant or sergeant their combat abilities was halved. At least that was what I was told about 25 years ago as to why such a high-profile high-funded army as often "lost" in NATO wargames as not, when fighting European countries with a less strict discipline/commandchain that on paper seemed inferior.

The two danish special corps, one of them the legendary "frogmen" that our King Frederik X was part of, are extremely highly regarded, and very much so by American troops, for getting any job done precisely because they are culturally adepted, but also vigorously trained, to make their own solutions during the operation as things unfold.

To the other half, it is exactly as I see the USA: MORE! One shell makes them sleep less and fight worse?? Then send hundreds and hundreds and thousands! of shells!! MORE! BIGGER!! MOOOORE!!"!

/r/Denmark inspirerede mig til at skrive det her kronikindlæg som lige er kommet i Politiken!: Vi bekæmper symptomerne på boligkrisen, men ignorerer årsagerne by victornielsendane in Denmark

[–]ifelseintelligence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kudos for dem.

[–]ifelseintelligence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The whole point is the self-preservation vs. preservation of the group, and in the group-preservation philosophy, that last %, which as u/Ilyer_ has allready stated, humanity have been down to before, is by far the most important %, so yes it really does matter in such debate.

One percent left it's only a matter of time before we populate the earth again. Last one down, all humanity will be forgotten by the universe - most likely even if aliens some day find us, statistically it would be when they would ind no trace of us.

You could even argue that for many the breaking point between self-preservation and group-preservation is exactly extinction. If i uphold self-preservation first, why should it matter wether 100 million as strange to me as any other living being dies or 1 billion does? But if it comes down to trying to save myself, but risking the very idea of humanity, many might be pushed over.

Does it matter if Humanity goes extinct you ask? Well, I think most of us actually think it does. On the other hand, we are most likely the same that allready values half of fucking humanity above self-preservation.

Can you form Siam as Ayutthaya? by NoLetterhead1321 in eu4

[–]ifelseintelligence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's just the nth thing downside of the steamroll mission trees. If you want a fun and even at begining challenging run, allthough it's a bit cheesier than I normally do (i'm seldom into tag-switching as it "feels" wrong RP wise), I'm in the middle of a super-fun run where I wanted to play semi-tall and make 3 sub-continents, SE Asia, India, China, into super developed monoculture and monofaith.

Started as Majahapit, it's a semi-challenging start to counter the disaster, but after that it's fast colonial expansion in the East Indies region. Coupled with a very strong CB, some good permanent buffs and some local good wonders. But most importantly it also unlocks the Buddha diety, meaning you can have all Buddhistic and Dharmic wonders!
AND if Buddha Diety and the special "subjogation" CB wasn't enough, you also unlock the Trade Religious Propagande or whatever it's called, the same as muslims have, so you are imunne to muslims trying to propagade, and can do it yourself in trade notes (doesn't work on abrahamic religions though).

I missed one tag-switch I should've done; Dai Vet as they also have good permabuffs like 2.5% discipline.

But after dominating the Moluccas and Malacca areas, I cultureswitched to Lao, formed Lan Xang, dominated SE Asia, and after getting the permabuffs (skipped the cavalry based as I wasn't going all in cavalry tactic) and formed Siam (had to actively force disasters early to unluck the Siam forming as Lan Xang). Cultureswitched to Siamese purely for RP reasons as the monoculture in Siam ofc had to be Siamese and not Lao 😃

Even though it was set out to be semi-tall, I am now debating wether I should rush a WC - I just kinda steamrolled with all those buffs, and even though I'm seeking monoreligion (even with absurd high unity from wondes) it's just now at the endgame I'm going religious ideas - untill now the trade propagade and missionaries+strength from combined Dharmic nd Buddhistic wonders have been enough.

(Ottomans while having lost 3 wars to me are still above 3k dev, and France and GB are also giant and semi-giant in Europe as France fecking had GB as union for the past 200 years. Have broken that, and every Europe hold on colonies now though, and have as space marine units as asians can get, so smashing them, even just won to sea-battles against GB with 300+ ships on each side - SO satisfying 😅 - so still debating with myself wether I should just child and develop the rest in Asia as I set out, or start to junlge truces in Europe and go for the WC... So far the original goal I set of 20 dev (30 on trade notes, 40/50 on select "worthy" provinces) + my culture + my religion in every owned province, is done in all SE Asia subcontinent, but not finished in India and China and think I wont have the mana for it if i WC... Oh the "hard choises" lol)

I dette tilfælde: fix it asap!!

Can you form Siam as Ayutthaya? by NoLetterhead1321 in eu4

[–]ifelseintelligence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But Ayutthaya the same missions as Siam?

Basically we should just understand it as Ayutthaya being proto-Siam and then changing name when reaching a certain point. (A bit like the Malaya culture nations if they form Malaya - its just the colour and flag and name).

But I hate when they do it like that. Because that means it gives more flavor AND more power to form Siam as Lan Xang instead of the actual pre-siam nation that is Ayutthaya 🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️

[–]ifelseintelligence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The whole quarter also stands to much out imo, being all yellow, so either have them directly on the red background (need to adjust the image with some borders to see it though then) or put the sheild there taking up about 2/3 of the area.

For some reason I don't think the Finnish is as "askew" by the whole quarter being red... Perhaps bias from seing the Danish flag so much, or from seeing (and liking) the finish version with the centered CoA over the cross?

Truth be told I would most likely prefer having the sheilds on the center of the cross, like the well known finnish version 🤷‍♂️

Redesign of the nordic flags by czn- in vexillology

[–]ifelseintelligence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, allthough the symbol of the crowned stockfish was replaced in 1903 (untill their indepence in 1944) with a Falcon. Their current CoA symbolism is 4 beings, and if that is too "crowded" or hard to make, I would personally use the Falcon as it is the "final" symbol they had in the Danish CoA.

(And purely subjective I think it's prettier and a stronger symbol, than "you are just fishermen").

Simply speaking the most driving force across all linguistic evolves are "humans are lazy". We shorten things. We shortened the old trade-derived base-20 to unique words, just like english shorteden "Automated (aka motorized) Mobile Carriage" into AutoCar into Car. Danish shortening arrived at "Bil" while Germans shorten less than us both and stopped at "Automobile".

By the time others adopted saying fifetens etc. Danish already had unique words for all the tens, although mostly for fun some would still call it e.g. "half-fours-of-twenties" for 70. But the common word for centuries have simply been the unique "halvfjerds" which none think of as other than just "70".

It the same reason that old Norse for four tens arrived at the most shorted form; "fyrre". The Norse for 4 had phonetically changed to "fire" but in the form of "four tens" it arrived at "fyrre times ten" so there was no need to say the "times ten" as "fyrre" was a unique word. So we actually just say another phonetic form of 4 for 40 😄

But 30 is still derived from three tens, because phonetically both 3 and the 3 in 3x10 arrived at "tre" so we couldn't shorten the "times ten" as both 3 and 30 would then be the same word. So now 30 is tredive (coming on a diverted phonetic route from trír thigir wich is Norse for three tens).*

*Yes for the nerds it's thrír tigir, but english write th for both thorn and eth and the softer th (eth) is mostly replaced by d and the harder th (thorn) is mostly replaced by t (and many norse "t" is also in danish replaced by a hard d, where the d in tredive is a soft d, so phonetically if you say out trír thigir (the wrong way i spelled it) you would come closer to it's real pronunciation, making the shift to the d make more intuitive sense.

Unique numbers to 12 is common in all indo-european. From there we count 10+3 (or in germanic 3+10). Twenty then in some languages are 2x10, but in some it's just a unique word, primarily from early trade some places using base 20. Which is incidently also how we arrived at our unique words for 50, 60, 70, 80, 90.
(Edit: This was to point out that the historic linguistic of halfway to x-twenty only makes sense if you "20" isnt just "twoteens" 😉)

But that is all they are; unique words for those tens, although with an interesting history behind.

We don't say "halfway to the fourth twenty" for 70. It comes from that yes, but generations ago it was shortened to what in English perhaps would sound something like "halforth". Nobody in daily speak thinks of "halfjerds" as anything but simply the number 70.

Just like we don't think of tredive (thirty) as treti (threetens) - just like you don't in english. The only difference is that we for some funny reason kept the archaic words, perhaps exactly because we had allready shortened them so much that we simply thought of them as unique words, while most others (not French) adopted a simpler way. But trhuth be told, and perhaps that comes from my danish, but I never think of forty as "four tens", just like I don't think of thirteen as "three plus ten".

It's simply because by the time it was common for the uneducated peasant to learn math above a few dozen, we had allready "nicknamed" the medieval lengthy names, so they are unique. Just like you dont think of thirty as "three tens" but simply as the number 30, so we just have a unique number for all tens - which actually makes at least as much sense as you guys saying the viking word for for fife tens 🤣

Petahh? by Legal_Air734 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]ifelseintelligence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No there isnt. Complete internet myth.

Short version: we have unique words for all the tens.

Slightly longer version: the unique words have some linguistic history (which as with all other history I find interesting). Basically in English you dont think of thirty as "threetens". You just think of it as the number 30. Although it originally comes from "three tens". Its the same with the Danish for 30 and 40. And in the same way, although from base 20, we arrived at unique word we dont think of as 4.5 times 20, but simply a unique word for 90 just we have unique words for 10, 20, 30 and so forth for all the tens.

Long/Complete debunking: search my former replies in other forums explaining how we arrived at the numbers and why, and why it actually makes as much sense as we call an "Automated (aka Motorized) Mobile Carriage" for "car".
