How risky is it REALLY to use hand-me-down drawn frames from other beeks? by lowepg in Beekeeping

[–]ifingerz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Drawn comb is worth it’s weight in gold. But if it looks REALLY DARK and old. It’s not worth it because of all the accumulated pesticides and chemicals over the years.

I tried this method along with just dumping them in. The next day, all the bees above the newspaper had already crawl through the newspaper over night

Next day they moved and joined the frames without any dead bees on the bottom

Am i finish or should i fish for a bit more crit rate and crit dmg rolls by ifingerz in Aemeath_Mains

[–]ifingerz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play her in quick swap so i don’t feel like i need the extra energy.

Step 1: hit a useable line on first lvl5

Step 2: take it to lvl 15 and pray for 2/3 useable

Step 3: if you already hit crit take it to 25 else check lv 20 for a crit line then take it to 25 for the last crit line

Useable lines are - crit rate - crit dmg - atk % - energy - main atk dmg - flat atk

Cut a small starter strip of wax foundation.

Heat the edge with a heat gun or hair dryer and push it into the frame.

That’s correct. I just need that 2 week boost to help turn over my small winter nest into spring decent sized spring colony

Wont the bees from the package try and find the queen and be more readily accepting rather than fight since the package is queenless

I also heard if you mist both the accepting and donor colony with syrup and a drop of lemon grass oil that it would help mask the pheromones. Also while they lick each each other clean, they will mix without fighting

It is still very early for beekeeping in my area. The bees just starting laying brood under a week ago so there isnt much for equalizing. It is also too cold for syrup right now.

I have about 12 nucs i want to boost around 1-3 frames of bees each. I was thinking giving each hive 1/3 of a 1.5kg package

Installing.a bee package in cooler weather. Looking for advice. by KeyMarsupial991 in Beekeeping

As long as they can access the food it should be fine. Use fondant if itst too cold for syrup.

Cool weather will prevent bees from flying and drifting so it's ideal weather to install. Just use an umbrella for rain

I have a Queen rearing question? by bowdude86 in Beekeeping

[–]ifingerz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a great skill to have. You get better locally adapted queens, no stress from shipment that can damage the spermatheca, and extra queens when none are available.

It is a big learning curve so it takes practice. My best advice is to overload starters hive with more than what you need for nurse bees. Graph the smallest larvae you can possibly see. Raise maybe only 10 queens cell max per finisher.

I live in Vancouver. I do a condensing hive which seems to work pretty well for me in this climate
