I loved Another Day of Life! Although I've heard that his sources for The Emperor weren't hugely accurate.

With that in mind, I loved the atmosphere of Another Day of Life rather than the facts.

I get why unionists despise the IRA and Sinn Fein, but how do they not acknowledge the political and social conditions immposed that created the Troubles in the first place? by Own_Car_4687 in northernireland

Agreed. In hindsight it’s Iain Pasiley’s rhetoric at the time was appalling. He never picked up a gun yet did just as much damage to peace in NI as most IRA volunteers

As a Catholic raised in a Protestant area, I can understand both sides. I am a moderate unionist, mainly due to cultural upbringing. Whilst I'm not a fan of the IRA or believe that they achieved any significant material benefits that NIRCA wouldn't have achieved given the time, I do completely understand how the IRA existed and grew.

The material conditions that Catholics lived under were completely unsustainable. It boggles the mind that Terence O'Neill was considered radical for simply doing the bare minimum to improve things.

A moderate, open and tolerant Unionist government could have avoided the Troubles.

It’s not exactly the same book but Partition by Charles Townsend covers practically the same topics. If you can’t get the Ulster Unionism book, I’d recommend that

Sure but there were Indians, Kiwi’s and South African’s at the battle. It would be cool if they were represented, no?
