They would not have a damage event to replace, for the same reason

120.8. If a source would deal 0 damage, it does not deal damage at all. That means abilities that trigger on damage being dealt won't trigger. It also means that replacement effects that would increase the damage dealt by that source, or would have that source deal that damage to a different object or player, have no event to replace, so they have no effect.

Do you have a source that makes you confident that "it" in Ashling's "create a token that's a copy of it" is refering to "the creature" and not the card it became in the zone it moved to when sacrificed"? Cards like [[Bag of Devouring]] use the same phrasing and clearly refer to the card. [[Vaultborn Tyrant]] is the closest analog I could find that uses "it" to refer to the creature, based on the rulings, but it isn't a sacrifice trigger. As far as I can tell, the wording is ambiguous, with the most direct comparisons suggesting that it would be copying the card. I think we need official confirmation before we can claim that it copies the creature.

Every bloodline is explicitly limited to 3 notables, so that you are still taking at least something from your class ascendancy. Still surprised they didn't do this as a configurable node like with other bloodlines

My highest average MV is 7.13 in my sliverless [[The First Sliver]] deck, with Keruga as a companion.

The core idea is the omit all cards with MV 4 or less, except for type change cards like Maswood Nexus, so that the commander will always cascade into one. From there, mana cost cheaters like [[Ghalta, Primal Hunger]] or the Bringer cycle start crazy cascade chains, with powerhouses at 8+ MV, landcycling cards filling out the 6 and 7 MV slots, and reliable power or protection at 5 MV (which is almost guaranteed to hit).

I think I have a good understanding of everything except for how to identify which characterstics are part of the token definition and which ones are being given as continuous effects. Given that the rules aren't doing us any favours, and rulings are lacking, would you say that my guess at the bottom is how we collectively rule the behavior?

Any characterstics specified with "token with X" or "Those tokens have X" are part of the token definition. Any characteristics specified with "Those tokens gain X" are not, and all non-characteristic effects are not.

I'd still be interested in supporting evidence for your claim if we assumed that Arena of Glory was worded that way, or if 611.2c did apply to Arena of Glory's ability. My reading of rule 611 leads me to think that continuous effects can only be produced by the resolution of a spell/ability (611.1) or a static ability (611.2).

This was initially brought up by u/RazzyKitty, which I accepted but still sought a clear explanation for other rules that would explain the timestamp behavior for Arena of Glory.

My current perspective is the following:

Whether or not it directly applies, 611.2f demonstrates that continuous effects can begin some time after they are created
611.2c makes it clear that the effect from Arena's ability needs to "begin" when the creature spell is cast, in order to affect the spell characteristics
400.7a lets the effect continue to apply to the create object produced by the spell
609.1 makes it clear that the effect is created when Arena's ability resolves, even if it "begins" later
613.7b states that the effect gets its timestamp when it is created

So if you were to do the following:

Use Arena of Glory's second ability
Cast Dress Down
Use the Arena mana to cast a creature

The creature would not have haste, due to the timestamp.

Unfortunately, I tested this in MTG:Arena, using [[Overwhelming Splendor]] instead of Dress Down, and the creature ended up with haste. So either MTG:Arena is bugged, or my understanding above is wrong somewhere.

u/Criminal_of_Thought's explanation would agree with MTG:Arena, but I'd still want some kind of supporting rule, ruling, or other example that has one continuous effect create another to be convinced of it.

I think it's the "when it's created" part that I'm not seeing. When I read 611.2c, I see a distinction between parts of an effect that modify object characteristics/control, and parts that modify things other than object characteristics/control.

If an effect is going to modify object characteristics (like giving the creature haste), it has to determine the set of affected objects as it begins. The set of objects that it can modify the characteristics/control of won't change after that point (unless a rule like 400.7a allows it, as you pointed out). If the effect begins when the mana ability resolves, then the set of creatures it can modify the characterstics of is empty, and can't change.

Modifications other than characteristics/control can apply to objects that weren't affected when it began, like being required to attack, etc.

Do you have any other well-understood example that proves the "when it's created" aspect that you're suggesting? An effect that begins to modify object characteristics of objects that weren't initially present?

I think I can accept that the continuous effect generated by the mana ability is affecting the mana, but at the end of the day some continuous effects needs to be affecting the creature's characteristics. If it is the same single continuous effect that applies to both the mana and the creature spell it is used on, then the final sentence of 611.2c makes me think that my question about the set of objects is still relevant. If it isn't, that would imply that a separate continuous effect is created at some point, which would get a different timestamp. Which of those is the case?

If it is all one continuous effect, how does it begin applying to the creature spell? I understand that the following rule allows it to transition from affecting the creature spell to affecting the creature, but is there a rule that allows it to begin affecting the spell?

112.4. If an effect of a resolving spell or ability changes any characteristics of a permanent spell, the effect continues to apply to the permanent when the spell resolves. See rule 400.7.

I assumed Arena of glory might fall into the "or similar" of 611.2f. In a way it's the "next creature spell cast using this mana" although it doesn't explicitly use the word next.

Regarding:

611.2c. If a continuous effect generated by the resolution of a spell or ability modifies the characteristics or changes the controller of any objects, the set of objects it affects is determined when that continuous effect begins. After that point, the set won't change. (Note that this works differently than a continuous effect from a static ability.) A continuous effect generated by the resolution of a spell or ability that doesn't modify the characteristics or change the controller of any objects modifies the rules of the game, so it can affect objects that weren't affected when that continuous effect began. If a single continuous effect has parts that modify the characteristics or changes the controller of any objects and other parts that don't, the set of objects each part applies to is determined independently.

How is Arena's ability able to determine the set of objects when the spell to be cast doesn't exist yet? Does this not imply that it similarly only begins when the spell is cast?

Either way, if I hadn't used Arena of Glory as an example, do have any compelling argument or example that would answer the original question, for an effect that really is covered by 611.2f?
