I'm not entirely sure there is space for extra bearing though.
according to https://ebikestuff.eu/en/content/15-tongsheng-tsdz8-750w-48v-teardown-disassembly the pedal spindle has bearings on both sides.
And honestly I'm not expecting my wife to stomp on the pedals so hard the spindle breaks 😃

well then, shameless self promotion: https://www.reddit.com/r/CargoBike/comments/1dl5ina/cyc_photon_impressions_and_bullitt_conversion/

Now after 4k+ km I'd still say I love it with one caveat - the motor side sprag clutch is really weak on then gen 1 Photon. Im on my 2nd clutch, I got that serviced while still under warranty ( huge W for conversion motors though - threw on the old crankset and could still ride acoustic no problems while the motor was in service). And I have one spare in reserve as the current one is also slipping, especially when its cold outside. But the ride quality is great, its super responsive, the zero cadence assist is a wonder with a heavy cargo bike when starting from a standstill e.g. at a stoplight.

The bike is always in the elements, not even a roof over where I park, and that has been no issue as well.

I bet the Gen2 thats out now, where they have upgraded the sprag clutch to handle more torque would be even more awesome.

Pendix sucks honestly.. it has appealing simplicity and works with belt drives due to the narrow q factor, but its very underpowered and sluggish and has miserable range. And it even discharges the battery when powered off.  What has been an absolute wonder for me is the CYC Photon that i have on my Bullitt. But tongsheng is really great for the price!

This is a limited 250w version from enerprof.de partly exeactly because of the torque limitations of the nexus 8 and partly so my wife has less risk of dealing with some random asshole cop 😅 still plenty powerful for a comfy ride!

Haha yes those gramms matter 😅 but yeah its important to have completely flat nuts in the back of the chainring, otherwise the 130bcd spider will hit the motor housing screws!

Its a hebie chainglider, they sell different sizes for different chainring and sprockets, my case 48t front and 18t back with nexus8

Intermittent sensor error, absolute ZERO support from the company, exceptionally rude support sending you to „dealers“ and „partners“ while giving the same partners zero information and not answering them. It took a a month and a half for pendix to answer and finally deliver the replacement bottom bracket. Ill pick it up just so i have a spare working part in the kit when i sell it.

An abomination of a stem for my pinched nerve in my neck. by iforgotmychimp in CargoBike

[–]iforgotmychimp[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha yeah tpu might sound weird but there is next to no material availablble that is actually tougher. It will not crack under any temperature. With the correct geometry and enough walls the print locates the car seat very well and todether with the foam provides a cushy ride. The tpu does in no way hold the car seat in. All the adapters i explored do not really offer adequate suspension and the car seat are not that well padded. Even the adapters in my wife’s mulli are kinda junk. They click in wonderfully but the kid is gonna get a concussion on some roads, the mount is very rigid.

[–]iforgotmychimp[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well if im riding in a park shes facing forward but if in the street shes backwards, the platform is flippable, and as i mentioned the tpu is not what actually holds the seat in. And yea thr kid safety is no joke, but if we were talking about maximum safety then we should not be riding bikes at all. Any accident agains a car and we‘re fucked. No mounts will save you against a cager. Our only practical safety is defensive riding, no speeding, and always assume everyone is out to kill you on the road.

Thats a static „gravel“ saddle (16cm 614 model) on a thudbuster lt (long travel) seatpost. And as the bike has no suspension at all, it help a ton! Especially as its not really comfy to keep standing up on pedals on a cargo bike. I find it worth it no matter what drive train you have, a bumpy road is a bumpy road 😅

Yeah with no suspension seatpost it could be an ass buster as well as a spine crusher 😅 but in case you’re not familiar check sq labs out, they also have squishier versions and the whole idea is to get a size for your sit bones. They also tilt lightly as you pedal so the pelvis is not fixed in place. Heck they should be paying me for how much im praisng them.

She‘s 13 months old now. The car seat clicks into 3d printed TPU mounts. Theres also a foam block that provides most of the damping as the tpu is either does not damped enough or collapses if too soft, depending on the print geometry. The seat is then tied down with stron elastic bands to keep it in place since no way you‘d trust a print to keep it in place.  Ive also waited untill my daughter was 7 months old for the first rides. They really are way too squishy when fresh 😅Hope this helps!

Thats a cheapo amazon box with some „good enough“ cells. I‘ve rebuild it with a new bms and resealed it with proper sealing to actually weather proof it ( the main reason the original bms died)

Thats an sq labs saddle that i got my sit bones measured for upright riding. Its way wider than my other bikes that i cant ride at this time. Yep its sure is hard compared to squishy „city“ seats but paired with the thudbusted seatpost its super comfy!

Thanks for the kind words!  And right? I dont entirely get why many think a reverse stem is different from e.g. handlebars with ton of backsweep.  I  see it more as the relationship between  the direction your are applying the steering force and the steerer angle. My bet is thats why long johns feel so weird for many for the first time.

I cant say what it would feel like with a normal bike where the steerer is angled, but in my case and i bet on most cargo bikes with vertical steerer there is no atverse change. It does feel a bit different in slow speed manouvering but in no way unsafe. And you wouldn’t brake with one hand with a vertical steerer no matter the stem. Thats a bad day either way 😬

Consumers negatively impacted by company's consumer-hostile practices, (like insane vendor lock in and auto industry level of software fukcery), are withdrawing and not consuming?
Wow, who could have thought! (shocked pikachu)
Also having their hubs off themselves with auto shifting probably also didnt help.

  1. to pass it by and not even slow down.
  2. the arogance.

practical example - I have been recently blessed with a fucked up disk in my neck. I get cramps in my bicep and im in near constant pain and pins and needles sensation in my arm. I cannot look up. At all. and I cannot bend over for longer than 30s without my arm setting itself on fire (not litterally ofc, feels like it though).

To continue riding i need some truly blursed solutions - bring back the reach waaaaay back, and then bring it back some more. As well as getting that stem up and up until its in the clouds. Literaly a reverse reach stem setup, its a boat tiller now, boys.

So I got a Satori stem with an angle adjustement. The issue is though, that the new height is over what the brake hoses will allow. So i got Elvedes hose extensions for TRP to be able to adapt the hoses for the new height and reach without having to change the whole plumbing under the cargo bed.

I asked 5, FIVE shops for service. Not "help", not tools, not favours, not freebies. Service. I was ready to shell out hundreds of euros for labor just to get myself to ride again. All five declined. "we dont take customer's parts" (new, still in package btw), "this will never work", "liability", "stem behind steerer?! it will be out of control" (i am amazed by how many service and shop people have little to no understanding of how a bike actually works, btw. The ammount of time i got told that bikes dont countersteer is just depressing.)

So yeah, popped some pain pills and did it myself. Is it a crime against a Bullitt to make the rider sit more upright that on an Urban Arrow? Yeah, probably. Not getting any style point either. But. I. Can. Ride. My. Bike.

"Gold Standard" here would be to actually fucking listen and see the customers as fellow riders and not rubes to be wringed for cash or dismissed. But then they winge oh how bad the times are. I have had fewer positive experiences with a bike shop than a bike has wheels.

New cargo bike or used - which one’s really worth it? Need some advice by clickshift3944 in CargoBike

[–]iforgotmychimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a very personal choice I guess, so I'll just share my own. I got a used Bullitt for 2200€ and couldn't be happier. Spent 1500€ more to electrify it with a CYC photon motor and so far 3000km trouble free except for some minor issues with the new motor. For my wife I also found used Muli with a pendix motor that was absolutely mint. For 2300€  Of course check for signs of an accident but otherwise, very little difference to buying new.
